Scheduled a haulout for survey only to find out 5 hours later that my financing fell through. Tried to get a refund for them and they no refunds. Arrogant, rude, and just plain mean people. Stay away from this business. read more

March 2022- present and they'll have to kick us out to end our relationship with Shell Point Marina. Ok they tried to get rid of us once (our fault) but we are like a fungus and ya can't get rid of us lol!!! We are grandfathered liveaboards. The nice and respectful kind. I walk every day to Bahia Beach. I've biked to the Manatee Viewing Center and the grocery store. In other words, the marina is perfectly located to food and groceries. I tend to be a lady of convenience so I will have Kroger deliver my groceries. The Manatee River is brackish, and I've swam in it once. Intentionally believe it or not. If you've been here, you know what I'm talking about.... I don't like to swim here. However, on the daily, I see dolphins, manatees, cownose rays and jellies during migration. Osprey nests on channel markers. We have great sunrises and the sunsets over Saint Pete are magical!!!! It's safe and quiet here. There is a very small community of liveaboards. We don't get together that often, but everybody is friendly and respectful of each other. We have had our disagreements with management, but we've always been able to come to a solution between all parties. I miss Dennis and when he was here, he kept the bathrooms looking and smelling wonderful. I wasn't sure if I would survive without him, but our other Lifesaver is Maleta. We had a situation last year where the BF got in a near death car crash. We were on the verge of having to move and Maleta saved us. Between she and Tom idk what I woulda done. I am forever grateful.. It's not marina jacks and I'm ok with that! read more

Ahoy there mates! What a wonderful "Old Charm" marina! Shell Point Marina has that "family-run business" feel to it. Although we only kept our boat there for a few months while waiting to relocate to a marina further up north, Paula and Meleta as well as Dave and the deckhands made us feel right at home and tended to all of our needs. They are investing a lot of resources into making the marina first class yet their pricing is still very attractive. They built a beautiful Tiki hut that looks authentic, and you can BBQ, play games, or just hang out on the dock in the Adirondack chairs. You can also go boating too! LOL! Thanks to all for a wonderful experience! The Admiral (Wifey) and I will be sure to stop by and say hello next time we navigate down to the Sarasota area. Thanks again!!! :-))) read more

Shell Point Marina - Getting ready to dock! - Boating Near Me - Ruskin, Florida

I called on a boat owned and offered for sale by Shell Point Marina, it'sowner Tom, manager Paula and employee Maleta. A video was sent to me via Facebook messenger representing the boat and equipment contained on the boat. Shell Point requested several thousand dollars for storage in advance. Upon arriving I was told I could not have the title until the boat left the yard (1st red flag.) Upon arrival on the boat I noticed the hatch was wide open and the boat was filled with water. Upon entering the boat it became apparent that everything worth anything had been removed from the boat. When I questioned this I was told that when the price was dropped to $0, Tom had everything removed. In removing the winches huge holes were cut in the deck. The electrical panel, battery tender, clock & barrometer, 4 winches, solar panels, stairs/ladder and other items were taken. The boat was stripped and vandalized and they expected me to be okay with it. I clearly told Shell Point this was unacceptable and they responded what do you think is fair? I personally spent nearly $1,000, days out of my life, traveling through a Hurricane to Ruskin based on the false representations of Shell Point Marina, Maleta, Paula and Tom only to get ripped off. Failure to provide or withholding title Upon sale is a crime. Making false representations with the intent to defraud is a crime. Conspiring to commit fraud is a crime. Directly invested in, maintaing an interest in, or participated in a criminal enterprise affecting interstate commerce is a crime (RICO) Fair would be to reimburse me for the monies I spent based on those false representations. I should have read the numerous negative reviews prior to making this trip and spending any money. So many negative reviews telling of dishonest dealings going on at Shell Point Marina. I kept my 27' SeaRay at Shell Point Marina for a year. Although they were going through renovations (it is looking AWESOME), they provided the best care, customer service, communication that I have ever seen in a dry dock facility (although they have some wet slips). The staff seem to love what they do. Attentive. Their mobile app makes it so easy to make sure your boat is ready when you arrive. They never forgot to turn off my battery main switch! If I didn't buy a home with a seawall to keep my boat close, I would stay with them. read more

This is a long review so if you don't feel like reading the whole thing: Don't trust Shell Point Marina with your boat. Tom is a conniving man and knows nothing about boats or customer service. Also, they typically delete their negative reviews so check marinas.com and dockwa and other sources to see actual reviews. I'm just going to repost this review here if they delete it. During Hurricane Nicole of this year, I incurred some damages that made it necessary for me to haul out as soon as possible. I had only ever heard awful things about Shell Point Marina since the new owner Tom took over, but unfortunately there were no other marinas within a reasonable distance to me that had availability to take my boat out of the water, given this was right after Hurricane Ian and Hurricane Nicole came through. Shell Point Marina, or as some of the residents like to refer to it as "Tom's concentration camp" surely lived up to their awful reputation. Tom is referred to by other marinas as "the snake" because he does whatever he can, morally or not, to make every penny he can and charge every client as much as possible. He is a bitter, rude, condescending little man, who moved down here from New York. He was a hedge-fund investor who decided to buy a marina all while clearly having absolutely no knowledge of boats or any maritime experience. Upon my arrival at the marina, the marina was closed. Mileea at the front office had instructed me over the phone to plug my power cord into the only power pedestal available on the transient dock. So I did. The next morning Tom comes running down the docks clearly troubled by something, this was my first time being graced with the "snake's" presence. He ran down to the pedestal where my chord was plugged in, unplugged it and started coiling it up. All while quibbling "there are to be no power cords ran across the dock, this is an absolute insurance nightmare." I tried to explain to him that I was just following the instructions of his employees. It is funny he was so concerned about the safety issue, because the marina is riddled with dangerous obstacles. While my boat was up in the slings, the marina employee that was power washing my boat said to me "Be careful, this marina is going to try and steal your boat. I've seen him do it over and over again. He charges an ungodly amount for some made up reason, and then when the people can't pay it. He takes their boat and sells it." At first I was extremely offended and thought this person was insinuating that I wouldn't be able to pay my marina bill, but then I realized that this employee was genuinely concerned for me and trying to warn me of Tom's unethical behavior. I then was shown all of the boat's that Tom had taken from different customers. After hauling out, I had my dinghy next to my tarp. It was still speckled with barnacles from months of being in the ocean. I asked one of the marina employees where I should scrape my dinghy. I was told to bring it to the seawall. So I brought my dinghy to the seawall and began scraping it. And sure enough, here comes Tom waddling over with his panties in a bunch shouting. "What are you doing?? Have you ever even BEEN to a marina before??" Which is extremely rude and condescending, and frankly comical because he clearly has no maritime knowledge whatsoever. I calmly explain to him, again, that I was just following the instructions of his employees and maybe he should work on his business's inner-communications. He then scoffed at me and said "You know what. Don't listen to any of my employees at all. If you have a question, you come to me and don't listen to what anyone else tells you." This was a completely absurd notion to me, especially because marina owners are typically never on property and have other things to fill their time, but clearly not Tom. While my boat was being blocked, I was distracted with friends who came to see the boat being hauled, and didn't pay attention to where the jackstands were being put. I admit, I should have been paying better attention. The jackstands were placed in between the bulwarks on a portion of the boat where there is no structural support. This resulted in the fiberglass having a really nasty looking concave where the jackstands stood. I went to the owner of the marina, because I was told I wasn't allowed to go to anyone else, and told him I needed my boat reblocked. He said okay, we will charge you for that. I was surprised and asked "Even though it was done incorrectly the first time, you are going to charge me to rectify the situation?" and Tom replied "Every time we touch your boat. We charge you what we want. End of story" And he was right, upon further reading of my contract with them there are portions that say "the marina can charge you at our discretion." which gives him the ability to forego such shady business actions and policies. read more

I wouldn't put a canoe at this marina. They are horrible to work with. Issues are not discussed and boat owners are not notified prior to changes being made. I had my boat there for a year. Two months prior to my year ending, the new owners came in. No communication and horrible bed side manner when issues were brought to their attention. I don't blame the staff, I blame the owner. He basically told me to go elsewhere if I didn't like it as he would have no problem renting my rack elsewhere. Absolutely HORRIBLE. read more

Thieves thieves thieves , they find anyway to take your money, no customer service at all, Paula the owner/manager will try to charge you for anything. I had my boat there for 2 years and in those 2 years my boat got so deteriorated because of all the sun beating it , bird poop all over , bird nest under the boat and they didn't care , if I had a rope hanging they would ask me to drive over there to pick it up or I could pay their handyman $150 an hour to do it ( something that takes 2 minutes ) . When I canceled my contract with them my boat wasn't there anymore for 2 months before that, they still charged me $370 for the last month because I notified them 10 days into the month, so I paid that month and the following even though my boat wasn't there anymore for almost 2 months before that, so in other words I paid for the last 2 months. They have no consideration .... I don't recommend this place to anyone, unless you want bad customer service, be nickeled and dimed and someone who doesn't care about your boat. read more

We tried to pay for services done on the boat, they sent an invoice to us and the options were credit, debit and ach transfer so we wanted to do ach transfer and we were told no cash only, Really ? Have enjoyed watching the transformation of this marina, lots of nice upgrades, and a large tiki hut being built!! While visiting my sis in Tampa she surprised me by taking me out on a boat in Ruskin. The experience was amazing. Shell Point Marina staff was awesome and so attentive to our needs, the staff carried our equipment from the car to the boat and even had the cooler filled with ice for us. 5 star treatment all the way. We took our 2015 Grady White here for a bottom job and routine service. The staff was professional and quickly able to get to my boat as I left it parked dockside. Their prices are comparable and turn around time is very good. I took my time and hung out and talked to some other sailors under the large covered area and enjoyed the sunny day and the nice seats and views. They have a full kitchen, BBQ cooker, soda pop machine and more that can be used by members and guest of the marina. There was plenty of parking, even on a busy day, and everything I needed was walking distance around the marina. read more

The staff at Shell Point Marina are the most welcoming and kind hearted people. They went above and beyond my expectations when I moved my boat to their facility. Every time I use my boat they are always there to help load and/or unload my boat, help me tie up when I get back to the dock. Paula and Meleta are on top of the office and yard responsibilities to make all of their customers happy and comfortable! Dave, Rodger, Brad and Earl are also very helpful and respectful of my needs and make my boating experience the best it can be! The improvements to date have already made a world of difference in the appearance and cleanliness of the Marina and I'm looking forward to the paving of the grounds and enjoying the future tiki bar, and the club type atmosphere along with the additional parking and walkway along the water to get to the boat. Boy, have things changed here, since the change of ownership in June. New admeasurement billing system, which somehow seems to tack on billable length, beyond the USCG and Fl. state mandated taxable LOAs. That, and an extra $2 afoot charge, which doesn't effect the service you receive, it just allows them to use your money to invest in polishing up the yard they bought. In one month my slippage fees increase almost 25%. Occasional double-billing and inflating state tax rates, for monthly slip rates has also kept me on the phone. Attempts to harrass and threaten their existing clients, if you even mention that you are dissatified with said charges. Well, I'd say it's time to sail elsewhere! read more

Previous owners (the reviews that are BEFORE June 2021) were AWESOME! The new owner Thomas and admin Paula Weeks are horrible people to deal with. Shell Point damaged our boat, the staff verbally admitted to it but Thomas and Paula refused to be liable. I hope every boat owner in this Marina knows that they can drop your boat, or damage it with the loader like they did to ours, admit to it and not be liable. After I gave Paula the estimate I asked that the owner call me, he refused. Melia TOLD us that the Marina would do right by us and have the boat fixed. When I told them the boat was under warranty and my dealer would have to repair, they suddenly did not want our business anymore. 3 increases in monthly fees in 3 months, tells me where this business is headed. They removed our boat from the rack with out telling us or asking permission to re-measure and increase my boat from a 20 ft to a 22 ft is their MATH. These are ALL FACTS, there is nothing made up, no "feelings" involved, just the facts. The WORST customer service I have EVER had. No one contacted us that our boat was being handled and removed for measuring. No one contacted us with rate CHANGES until AFTER the charges were made. NO ONE. read more

Stay away.. The pictures are old and no longer represent the decay of what once was a nice marina.. The new owners have jacked the prices thru the roof while not addressing the multiple issues with the facility.. The haul out yard has inadequate power, you'll likely need a generator to perform basic functions.. if you're storing your boat on a rack, be sure to inspect the hull prior to and after transport, as they are notorious for dropping boats on the bunks, causing damages that they will deny, you won't be reimbursed, you will be asked to move.. They no longer prep boats for bottom jobs, that's an additional charge for an outside contractor, they don't actually have services on site, again outside contractors with an additional 10% fee of the contractors bill.. If it's a wet slip, be forewarned, the pilings are loose and the dock will move underfoot in any weather.. the pavilion provides shade, however get a tetnus shot before sitting at the rusty tables and chairs.. they don't have diesel, they also don't have a functional pump out.. they have liveaboards but no way to handle the septic.. think about that before you step in the water there.. the security cameras only function at the office and fuel tanks, so don't be surprised about thefts.. Also, any work done, if, you can find someone willing to work there has to be done in the diy yard at $1.50 per ft per day.. that includes waxing and buffing.. if, more likely when, they overcharge you, you won't be reimbursed.. if you complain you'll be asked to leave and charged an additional month.. your only recourse will be small claims.. the bathrooms are filthy, and rarely have soap to actually wash yourself..let alone towels to dry.. 216 high n dry racks and parking for about 40 people.. good luck finding a cab or Uber to drop you off or pick you up.. cell service is extremely poor in that area as well.. The channel leaving and coming in is shallow, multiple markers are missing, the advertised 8' depth is only at the dock.. anyone over 5' draw will bump coming in and going out.. While the two workers in the yard are pleasent and knowledgeable, the new management is not.. Save yourself the the hassle, future court appearances, damages and overall dissatisfaction.. There are multiple better places to store your boat in the area, that won't cost you your dream.. read more

I used Shell Point Marina for a complete bottom paint job on my Sea Ray 340, they were very professional, competent and priced more competitive than their competition. I also used their recommendations for additional services which included a detail cleaning company, decal and sign service, mechanical work and a canvas company. I could not have been more pleased with the results provided by each of these companies. I highly recommend Jason and his team at Shell Point Marina and have 100% confidence in the additional marine service companies that he recommends. read more
