But please don't drive by: The food is very good. And you can get some night crawlers, too. No kidding. The homemade pimento cheese sandwiches are as tasty and fresh as you could ask. Burgers, fries, chicken sandwiches, a little salad. All very basic. Incredibly cheap. The pimento cheese is $2.50. Fries $1.75 No kidding. There are 4-5 big tables with seating for 5 or more. The cook serves your food, you pick out your own drink from the cooler. Most lunches for two come out around $6-7. What makes Dirt Town so special is the crowd. It's the neighborhood meeting place for miles around, and there "the liar's club" gathers for breakfast. That's a group of elderly war veterans (WWII, Korea, Vietnam) who sit around and talk. The conversation is friendly, animated and covers everything from taxes to television. Listening is like being in a time machine, and it's an amazing, wonderful experience. No one who walks in is a stranger, so be prepared to start chatting with your neighbor and new friend. No kidding. Dirt Town is open from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays. It's between Rome and Summerville on Highway 27, about 13 miles north of Rome, the closest city of size. It's the friendliest place I've been into in years, and those little sandwiches will surprise and delight you. The conversation is priceless. And those night crawlers? Yep, that all the other bait you need and other fishing supplies is available here, too. You can even get some advice on how to reel 'em in.

It's not fancy it is in a store, they sell all kinds of old fashioned candy and bottled soft drinks. They sell peanuts by the pound tomatoes and several other convenient store needs. As far as the food goes they offer a special every Wednesday something like country fried steak and fried okra, and then they have all your basic southern Staples. One of my favorites is just a plain old club sandwich it's not fancy it's just your traditional club sandwich without all the bells and whistles that a lot of the restaurant to do to fancy it up. There's always older men sitting around telling stories from the way way back & A basket of fresh picked peppers on the table. It's a great place for comfort food, and making you feel like your visiting your grandparents.

I have yet to have the plate lunch but so far I've had two hamburgers and their fish. Both were very very good. The first time I went there was during the week, Their plate lunch sides were green beans mashed potatoes gravy macaroni and fries. I didn't wanna take the time to eat that much so all I got was a burger. It doesn't appear or taste like it's prepackaged. I will definitely make my way across town for one of their burgers before I would hit any fast food chain. I returned on Saturday hoping for a plate lunch but they didn't have all their fancy sides, Only french fries, biscuits and mozzarella sticks. So I grabbed a burger and a piece of catfish. Again the burger was fantastic and the catfish was even better. This place is well worth checking out for a quick trip food.

I had hopes for this place because I was hungry and it was the closest open place on my way and I…read morerealized later that I should have waited. The name of the restaurant is the porch but you don't sit on a porch or near a porch. There is a house attached where the owner probably lives. Inside there is a lot of eye sores. There is a market area in the middle with a lot of different products without any theme. On the wall there are more products for sale and then next to the bathroom there are beauty products. Why? I have no idea. I thought I was coming to eat. So, clearly there is an identity crisis happening here. Are you a restaurant or a store or are you just trying to make some money any way possible ? My suggestion ? Get rid of all that stuff in the middle and on the wall and open up the space a bit. And then there is the service. My server was this young lady who seemed like it was her first day. Most of her answers were I am not sure and idk. I asked about what teas are available and a gentleman told me they have flavors with pumps?? I guess he thought it was for coffee even though I clarified that it was for tea. When I did receive the tea, I received a cup of hot water where I had to go pick up the tea and there was three types of tea bags. So no one knows what's going on. I also ordered the specialty drink for the day and guess what they were out of the milk needed to make said speciality drink. No almond milk, no soy milk, no coconut milk. So I received about an inch of hot bitter coffee with bourbon. I ordered the croissant sandwich which flavor wise it was okay but why is it called a croissant when it is not a croissant ? It's not even croissant adjacent ! Do we not know what's a croissant ? Do we not know how to make it ? Like go to Costco and buy 12 of them for $6 if you are desperate. And here is the final nail in the coffin. The food came on a paper plate. WHAT?! What kind of respectful restaurant gives food on a paper plate ?! That's a million no. You are not a food truck. You are not a hot dog stand. Respect your customers and yourself and get some real plates and cutlery. This place screams incompetence and laziness. Conclusion: save your money people and go eat somewhere else.
