Well here's my experience on 5/15/23- I arrived at 8:10am with my 2.5yr old son to have a cut on him looked at from a minor injury that occurred over the weekend. The cold and unfriendly woman at the front desk told me that they would not let us wait to be seen and could not make us an appointment to come back later in the day. She told me to take my son to the ER for a non-emergency situation! I explained that I didn't feel comfortable going to the ER and taking valuable resources away from others in potentially life threatening situations. Being a Newburyport resident, I chose Children's Healthcare partly because they are local and I saw that as convenient. However, there is nothing convenient about being turned away from your own pediatrician during walk-in hours. This is inexcusable that I had no choice but to seek urgent medical care for a cut on my sons head that simply had to be cleaned and bandaged.

As new Mom, and mother of a preemie, my daughter needed extra care. My family and I are members of Concord Family Tree healthcare system. A system which has wonderful physicians and expert care. The main problem we have with this system of healthcare is that from a health management perspective, it is hard for Moms. Acute visits are rarely available day of. Also, I don't have 10 minutes available to navigate through the automated telephone system when my child is sick. Breakthrough Pediatrics lets me text my doctor! For the modern mom, this is a must. Breakthrough Pediatrics also has generic Rx's on hand. So for my daughter's ear infection, I don't have to also visit a pharmacy to pick up her antibiotics! If you child actually has a medical issue or injury, don't bring them here. They are good for…read morevaccines and checkups, but not illnesses unless it can be prescribed an antibiotic. I doubt they can even do an x-ray. I started my daughter here when she was a baby. I thought it was odd that they don't seem to be very sweet or communicative with children. (except for Tara; she's great) They are not mean, but on the issue of children, they seem neutral-all business. This continued as she grew. We were assigned a doctor, but in 16 years have never seen that doctor again. We know she is still there, but we always see nurses. They often have the answering service on, and they have no ability to do blood tests, lab work, or scans. During Covid, they would not see my daughter because she was sick! We've been advised to go to the emergency room or urgent care instead. Yesterday I spent the day in the emergency room by their instruction, and today was informed that it was the wrong kind of emergency room. They said there was nothing they can do if her headaches have been happening for so long. They advised I go back to a different emergency room. In sum, if you need a school check up or you child has a cold or flu, they are fine. I could say more, but it's getting long.
