The Custard Stand, since 1949 it was built and founded right there on that corner, imagine the history the building could talk about. But they also had an extensive menu with salads, chili, even hotdogs, etc. truly a little amazing gem right in the heart of tiny little Sesser. We stood at the counter for about 10 minutes, even called out toward the kitchen, but no one ever came out. As we were leaving, we spoke with a gentleman outside, and I noticed another customer go in. Over the 20 minutes we stood there talking, that person was still at the counter as well. I don't know if they had been helped already or not, so I don't want to assume, but from what I saw, there didn't seem to be any staff present. I'll give it another try in the future, but I left this time without being able to order.

To make it even more frustrating, I checked the online ordering app before I came in, and it clearly showed the meat and vegetable plates were still available to order. After arriving, I was told they couldn't make one because everything had already been put away. There are plenty of fried food options available, which is great if that's what you want. But for those of us who can't eat fried foods or simply prefer the meat and vegetable plates, it's disappointing to make the trip only to find out they won't prepare what's advertised on the menu. It gives the impression that the staff simply doesn't want to take the time to make those meals that late in the evening. This has happened on multiple occasions, so it doesn't seem like a one-time issue. If the meat and vegetable plates are regularly unavailable before 8:00 p.m., then the restaurant should either update its advertised hours and online ordering or continue serving them until the posted closing time. Unfortunately, they lost a sale because I chose not to stay after finding out the meal I came for wasn't actually available.
