I rented a cabin here in August for a few days, enjoyed a hike to the summit of Hahns peak which is…read moredirectly across the road. The cabin I rented was very nice and modern inside. I enjoyed the fact that there is no cell or internet reception here. The only thing that lost this place a couple stars is that the cabin had a slight infestation of mice which came out to play at night other than that my stay would have been great. My suggestion to the owners spend the money and hire experts to rodent proof your cabins so that people like me will return and pay a premium for your cabins. Oh and location location location.... this place is surrounded by national forest lands with an abundance of trails for hiking, biking and riding side by sides . steamboat lake and TNT tavern are just down the road a few miles as well. Steamboat is 20 ish miles. I suggest hiking Hahns peak regardless if you plan on staying at the cabins.

At first I was weary because my husband said there was no internet or air conditioning but the accommodations were perfect! Once we arrived we were greeted by the town Mayor who is also the owner- very friendly guy who made us feel welcomed. The Gold camp cabin had a small kitchen, wood burning heater (which I can't wait to come back in the winter and crank that baby up), one queen sized bed and two bunk beds. Perfect place to unplug and unwind. The showers and bathroom are in a separate building not too far from the cabin and they were very tidy. The location was awesome, nestled at the foot of Hanh's Peak and once you arrive there's a cute little general store stocked with snacks, drinks and various Knick knacks, there's quite a few cabins scattered across the property and you can actually rent out the whole property for your own little private party lol. I slept with the windows cracked and the weather was perfect- no need for air conditioning. Inside the cabin they had a little journal on the kitchen table that past guests wrote in. They wrote about their experience there and even short stories- kinda a cool little touch. The cabins are old and rustic- very historical. They even had pictures on the wall from way back in the days when the miners and trappers stayed there. Left me wondering how the owner acquired the property. This is definitely the spot to unplug and unwind!

This review is specifically for our experience at The Tavern…read more We came in with a large group the Saturday of Labor Day weekend while we were camping nearby at Bellaire Lake Campground. Part of our party (two adults and four kids) went ahead of us as we had dogs and needed a place where the dogs could be with us. Luckily, The Tavern was accommodating to that and we could sit with them on the patio. Since they got there ahead of us, their experience seemed to go smoothly. The rest of us (four adults, two teens, and a five year old) got our orders in and were warned that the kitchen was backed up and it would be a while for our food. And it was a while, about an hour or so. Aside from the youngest who was desperately hungry for her pizza, we managed fine. The drinks were delicious enough to tide us over: I got their take on an old fashioned, and my friend got a mule after someone in line recommended it to me. She said it was the best mule she has had at a bar in ages. The food was good and very decently priced. I got the caesar salad and a personal pizza and enjoyed both. It was good to not pay exorbitant prices in an area where options for restaurants are limited. It was a perfect day to chill out on the patio, and we also got the pleasure of the feral kittens who came to visit. After the long wait for food, we were anxious to get back to our campsite and settle in for the evening. Everything has to be ordered at the bar, and tabs need to be closed out there as well. This is where the waiting game continued, and where it became very clear they were not prepared for the holiday weekend rush. The woman who had taken our orders at the bar was in the back managing things in the kitchen, and the man at the bar was also busy being a sound tech for the musician that came in. There was another guy standing behind the bar doing absolutely nothing. It seemed he worked there, but only at the direction at the other bartender-sound tech. Which wouldn't have been a big deal if the line weren't taking up the bulk of the space in the small indoor dining area. It took at least half an hour if not longer to be in that line just to close our tab. When we finally departed, between choosing food, placing orders, waiting for food, and then waiting to close tabs, we had been there almost two and a half hours. It is very apparent that this is a well-loved local joint based on the interactions I had, the custom Yeti pints they had for customers, and regulars going behind the bar to pour their own pints. The atmosphere was great, and I love that. As I mentioned, restaurant options are limited, so beggars can't be choosers for our one night where we chose to dine out rather than cook at camp. But knowing how busy holiday weekends are, I was left disappointed but how things were being managed. I'd check this place out again on a calmer night or later in the evening for drinks, but definitely skipping the rush hours.
