Waltham Fields Community Farm - Bunnies!

    Waltham Fields Community Farm

    (11 reviews)

Outstandingly fresh vegetables will make you a homebody all summer. It's a crime to eat out when…read moreyour pantry is full of such delicious produce. Shares seem a bit pricey when you write the check at the beginning of the season, but they are more than fair if you make the pick up every week, and are true bargains if you fully avail yourself to the abundance of herbs, beans, tomatoes, peppers and flowers that you pick yourself in the fields. Management bends over backwards to satisfy diverse shareholder preferences and has struck a fine balance between the need for sufficient quantities of staples and a wide variety of choices for the foodies. One share will easily feed a family of four, but a share can be split, making it work well for couples, too. Sign up early. Shares sell out fast.

Their produce tastes better than anything I've ever found at a farmer's market, and is of course totally organic. You pay ahead when you reserve your summer share in January. It seems like a hefty sum, but you get a lot of produce, so it actually works out to be quite reasonable -- we split the share among 5 adults and still end up not eating everything. You pick veggies up every week, which we look forward to doing because you get to say hello to the cheery farmers and go into the fields yourself to pick certain items. There's nothing better than a tomato warmed by the sun and eaten right off the vine! You get to learn about new veggies you didn't know you liked (hakurai radishes??) and for us city kids, it's cool to see what a familiar veg looks like when it's growing out of the ground (when I started going here I couldn't tell a carrot from a broccoli plant). We've done all three share programs they offer: summer, fruit, and winter. You have to join for the summer to be eligible for the other two. I recommend both the summer and winter shares, but I wouldn't do the fruit share again. That's because they partner with another farm for the fruit and so it's not organic -- also they don't give you much fruit and generally it's not as high quality as their veggies. But the summer and winter shares are excellent! Extra bonus points for being a community farm and for their work helping the hungry.

I'm hard to fit but still found a gem and also found a perfect JCrew shirt for my husband. The young people help run the store, learn job skills, and work toward personal and career goals--and it truly shows in the care and pride behind the space. The shop itself is small but mighty. I walked out with four excellent-condition used books (three of which had already been on my TBR list) and somehow also added two cookbooks because... no regrets. Everything was very affordable, and it felt good knowing my purchase was directly supporting youth in the local community. If you're near one of their locations (I believe there's another in the Boston area), I highly recommend stopping in or checking out their online storefront. Great books, great prices, and an even greater mission--absolutely worth supporting.

I love the Nonprofit Center!…read more It's T accessible - right near south station. In addition to being the office of over 40 nonprofits, it also has meeting space available for other nonprofits to use (you do not have to be a tenant). I've been to meeting here sponsored by Tech Networks of Boston, Women in Development (fundraising), The Communications Network, Public Relations Society of America, and Third Sector New England. The event space is great, but my one warning is to triple check the microphones with the nonprofit center events staff if you have speakers. About half the times I've been to events there, audio problems occurred, so I always sit in the front to be sure I can hear. I'm jealous of the employees of the nonprofits in this building! What a lovely place to work!

I researched every venue I could find, over 55 in total. We couldn't afford to spend thousands of dollars, and time was running out - as were my options. Then I came across The NonProfit Center - after my initial inquiry I was contacted by Faisal and literally everything was smooth sailing from there! I took a look at the space and it was perfect, they were available the date I needed, and the price was right. Faisal answered all of my (many) questions and kept in touch to make sure there was nothing else I needed. Next time I will save myself the run-around and go here first - can't say enough good things, we had a wonderful experience!

I also added the jump house, which was a big hit. We were able to unplug it when it came time for our arts and craft for the kids, and plugged it back in when we were done with the activities. We were able to set up the tables the way we wanted so that, we can use the center for the games and activities we had planned. I booked it with Ann who is the Marketing associate, she is very professional and friendly, we stayed in contact via email up about 48 hours prior to my event. We went over the contract the day I signed, and a few days before my event to go over everything such as rules and the start/end time. I met with Frank the facilities Manager in the beginning and at the end of my event, he was also very professional and friendly. Overall the party was great, many people reached out to me on info so they can plan future events at this location. If you want to deal with professional, friendly people I'd definitely say book here. Last thing to keep in mind if you plan on setting up decor/balloons you will need to add additional time to your contract for setting up and also for cleaning up at the end of your event.

I've met the most inspiring group of women through this organization, and I've developed professionally, personally and spiritually because of the League. I was previously a member of the Junior League of Greenwich, CT and upon relocation to Boston I transferred membership to the JLB; the Boston-based League has a fantastic transfer committee who welcomes new members with open arms. All of the women I've met so far have been kind, open-minded and genuinely passionate about the mission of the Junior League to meaningfully contribute to the Boston community. Learning Links has computer classes upon availability of volunteer computer instructors. Right now, there are no classes and only one volunteer-who is computer literate and knowledgeable-- who acts as a check-in/check-out access center monitor--,for the entire center-- greeting and assisting members inquiring about the Quincy Community Action Programs. For the center to be helpful to the community to learn computer skills, offer computer tutorials that can be accessed by a Learning Links access key, or a click in link. Most computer users have learned by computer practice, CD tutorials, and on the job experience. A Learning Links member can work independently to achieve a computer literacy proficiency goal. In addition, the Learning Links Center needs to control and limit access to two hours, so that the entire community can use the center. It is charitable to allow equal access to all low income people in the center, but there is a safety issue considering that the center also welcomes women, seniors and children, who may need protection from those individuals with drug, alcohol, and mental health problems. The center cannot hope to fulfill all the assistance needs in the community, and should not be used as a daycare, a place to loiter, or a center to rehabilitate individuals for the local mental health and rehab agencies. It is a free computer access center for the community.
