After a nice visit to MOWA I ended up at Riverside Brewery and Restaurant and bellied up to the bar for service. This seems like a popular place in West Bend, and I enjoyed my visit. Service at the bar was pretty good, and my sandwich that was like a Philly Steak on a hoagie with peppers and mushrooms was good. I'm a big fan of craft beer, so I built a flight. There are a lot of style offerings here, some were great some were just off the mark. I did like the Veteran-focused names and the brewmaster is indeed a Veteran, thank you. Definitely stop in if you're in the area, but not a beer destination.

Met up with some friends for a New Year's Eve dinner at this cool little spot. Walked in and headed straight to the bar as we arrived before them. We checked in on Yelp and got a free 10 ounce craft beer of choice. Beers are great German tastings brews. We were sat downstairs and our waitress was very nice and informative. Tour of Riverside: this dish is great 3 of their signature items in one entree! 5 oz. cut of Prime rib, 1/3 rack of fall-off-the-bone ribs, and five garlic butter shrimp. The only thing I didn't care for on this particular dish were the unseasoned green beans, other than that everything else is cooked to perfection. I got mine with the soup and picked the beer cheese soup. Thick, bold flavor. This is a nice place to visit and we plan on returning with another group to explore more options.

We used to love this place and would visit frequently. The last several times it's been less than stellar. The server was attentive and friendly. The food was not great. Chili came out lukewarm the first time. My southwest chicken salad has been my favorite for years. Today, it was served with rotten lettuce throughout and there was too much to pick out that I just didn't eat any of it. Pic is what I picked out before I was just over it.

After a busy day in West Bend at the Shalom Wildlife Park, we found this gem of a restaurant by searching Yelp for Patio Dining in West Bend. It is on the river so that makes it another plus. The place was easy to find with GPS. I didn't see parking available and the one lot across the street looked like it was reserved for the bank. There was ample street parking available. This place looks like it can get busy, but there was no wait for us. There is some sidewalk seating in the front then when you walk in, there is a large bar and some tables. definitely a brewpub atmosphere. The down a level is a more semi-formal dining room with what looks like a service bar and this leads to the patio. Patiooverlooks the river but was quite a bit smaller than I expected. Maybe 9-10 small tables. We were able to watch folks enjoying themselves floating or tubing down the river. They mak there own beers here and we tried The Amber Ale and The Dizzy Blond Weiss. Both very good. The Weiss had a good smooth flavor and was very refreshing. The Amber, while very good was a little strong for me. (You get a free 4oz sampler with your Yelp check-in). There is also a sampler of 9 4oz beers for about $9.50, or $1.50 each Sunday special was half a baked chicken, choice of potato, and green beans. I had the garlic smashed and my sister had a baked. The chicken was delicious. Hot and moist on the inside and a slight crisp to the skin. My potatoes were red skin smashes and they were perfect. Greenbeanss appeared to be sauteed and had some crisp. We finished up by sharing an apple cobbler. This restaurant would be good for date nights, birthdays and otherr celebrations,, or in our case after a busy day. Service is prompt and courteous. Our waitress never seemed bothered by getting our samples. Nice way to end the day,

If you want an in and out lunch that isn't fast food, this is the place for you. I can't speak to large groups, but for little ol' me, it was perfect. The half Reuben and beer cheese soup were a great combo for a cold day. I loved the atmosphere and my cute little table by the window. Overall, one of the best reubens I've had in a while and it's always great to have beer cheese soup I in Wisconsin.

Both my older son and I thought this sounded amazing so we stopped in on a Friday night to try it. We both got fries for our side. The burger was great as expected. Breading and deep frying the lasagna helped prevent it from being a mess and they added enough marinara to give it flavor without overpowering anything. The fries were lightly salted, but were otherwise just boring, plain potato. Apparently 6pm on a Friday is a horrible time to visit Brazen Head Pub if you want to be seated in a reasonable timeframe. My son and I stood there for at least 20 minutes watching a table that was done eating and the gentleman and his credit card in hand, ready to pay if someone would ever stop and give him his bill. While this was going on, another couple at the bar finished their food and sat there for at least 10 minutes waiting for their check. It's almost as if the employees had no desire to turnover tables even with a line at the door including and behind us. There were three people bartending/waiting tables so they had plenty of coverage given the smaller size of the place. At one point, closer to the end of our meal, one of the bartenders looked at my son and I and asked "are you guys good?" as he was literally walking away from us and I was holding up an empty soda glass to show him I'd like a refill. Oddly, he gave me a thumbs up and kept going. I don't even know what to make of that other than poor service. The music that was playing was excessively loud. If it was a live band, I'd get it, that's part of the show and I wouldn't complain. For random music on speakers to drown out all conversations unless you're yelling, that's dumb.

And let me just say, if you like a good burger this (may be) the place for you. It's located on Main Street in West Bend. This area has gone through a real renaissance. The fixed up the street and sidewalks, have angled parking, and the lighting a nice. It's a real treat to be able to walk in this area of small shops and businesses. No stripmalls or big box stores. Very nice city planning! Came with a couple of friends, around 11:30. The Brazen Head Pub is one of many bars and restaurants in this area. This pub is pretty typical layout. It's long and narrow, a little dark (lighting and wood), has a long bar, and then a few high top tables. There is one larger table towards the rear that holds 6 people. Since there were 3 of us, we grabbed a high-top and stole a chair from the next table. (we had 4 people, not sure what we would have done). There was only one person (John) running all the table and managing the bar, and a couple of people in the small kitchen. John (our server) got to us after a short wait. Got our drinks and order placed right away. We ordered some Cheese Nuggets (white cheddar curds) and 3 different burgers. You can either "build your own" or order the standard "Brazen Head Beer Cheese Burger". The curds came out almost instantly. They were hot, with a side of ranch. They were good (not great, a little too much breading for my tastes). We waited a bit for the biggers, but they ended up being worth the wait. All were made perfectly to order, hot, lots of flavor, and very good portions. The Brazen Head Burger was tall, but manageable. The different elements were distinct and complementary. The cheese sauce had a big of a tang. The fries were okay, but could have been hotter. While we were there, the place filled up. Lots of other small groups, some at the long bar. With the additional people it got to be pretty noisy, to the point that it was hard to have a conversation. It didn't help that there was a speaker, right over the tables, with loud music. With only one person running all the tables, after our food came out, it was difficult to get our servers attention. Extra napkins and getting our check was a challenge. The experience was mixed. Definitely a place to get an amazing burger, cooked perfectly to order. However, the noise and the service (due to their popularity) was a bit lacking. I wish them luck as they adjust to their new popularity.

The restaurant was clean upon arrival, and seemed to be a normal night for this restaurant even had the piano playing in the background. That's all when things started to snowball, upon being greeted at the hostess desk we were invited to help ourselves to a seat at the bar as they would be with us in a few moments. We had a reservation so this was odd but ok. They came back and just pointed us to a table from the bar. Waited a good while to finally get our drink order taken. Mine came quickly the misses had to wait for a good while for hers which was disappointing as we were already previously seated at the bar where we were pointed to help ourselves to a table. She said something about her water being off flavored and shortly after noticed a chunk of something stuck to the inside of her water cup. We decided to order an appetizer of the bacon jam toast thing as it was obvious at this point the staff was struggling to keep up with all the tables and they needed a moment to regroup before placing a whole meal order. The appetizer was great delicious and left us wanting more. We then ordered our steaks mashed potatoes and tried the lobster mac. All of that tasted great also. We were questioning each other where the lobster was in the mac and overheard the waitstaff talking to what sounded like a regular that they ran out of lobster. (They told them to enjoy a round of drinks on them someone was already running to get more). We finished with desert as it was our anniversary the peanut butter cheesecake. Upon arriving at the table it looked as though it had fingerprints on the side like someone used their fingers to place it on the plate. We ate it and again was very good rich and had a great flavor. You probably would ask yourself if we told them any of these things, they apologized for wait to be seated, apologized for the service several times stating "there's a few large groups in back" on their own. Replaced the water cup and said sorry about that. They knew they were out of lobster and tried to pull one more dish before getting more. Lastly we were done when desert came and just wanted to leave. Definitely not going back here anytime soon!

This is usually a good sign in my book. After being pleasantly greeted after walking in, I saw a lot of the wait staff and the bartenders like busy bees.... All of them seemed to be in a happy mood. We were ushered to our table in the large dining area. Pictures posted by others were accurate. Several larger groups of 8+ were around and the room was a buzz of chatter.... Not too loud, just right. Our server Nicole gave us some time to read thru the menus and we ordered after a bit. Since it was Friday night, we chose the fish fry, my wife the beer battered cod, myself the peach. While we waiting we enjoyed view out the large glass windows that overlooked the lake and saw the pontoon boat launch and return with guests, the free ride around the lake with Captain Max (who by the way had some great stories to share on our trip, a couple seemed pretty fishy). Our dinner arrived what seemed like eternity, however being patient was rewarding.... Both selections of fish were awesome... some of the best beer battered cod and perch we've had across a dozen counties. Guys, it's worth it. All around the staff was great, the view during diner was excellent, and the boat ride was like icing on the famous carrot cake they serve.... My only downgrade on the experience was the very long wait for dinner. It turned out to be well worth it, however for fried fish, well beyond my expectations on time. Now.... It's your turn to make a reservation....

The menu has all the breakfast favorites and even though you can't just about ever get a real country fried steak anymore I ordered the country fried steak breakfast plate because it's still a favorite of mine. The massive table fixings were nice to see since C19 wiped them out for years. My food came quickly and looked ok with mangled three eggs mess but the yokes weren't broken only the whites. The toast was all generic and nothing exciting like Texas or sourdough so white would be my choice. The eggs were cooked perfect sunny side up. The hash browns were good with the added onions. The non homemade country steak was as good as restaurant food service companies offer and ok with the average country gravy on top. Overall it was your average restaurant breakfast and I know what I'm getting with the frozen country steak but I still crave it for breakfast so I'm going to stick with 4 stars because it wasn't horrible and it hit the spot for the start of a road trip early morning breakfast.
