Lots of other activities for kids and adults - walking trails, disc golf course, climbing wall, nature course, dog park, fishing dock, and kayak/sup rentals. The campground is well kept and most sites are great. Beware of the ones that share a driveway if you're going it alone (50/51, 78/79, 124/125, etc). The campground map clearly denotes which ones have shared driveways. Also several sites have a sewer/water/electric hookup right on top of the neighboring site pretty much (119 to 118, for example). Those are not well marked on the map. Firewood at the store is hit or miss, so bring your own if you can. Each site does have a picnic table and fire ring, but the picnic tables are on the older side. Lots of trees all the way around, and there are a few interior sites with concrete pads. Bathhouse and showers are newly renovated and very nicely done. For the adventurous folks, there is also a primitive camping area for tenting on the other side of the overflow parking area behind the RV campground. These have raised tent pads, but no water and electric at the sites. There is also an adjacent group camping area frequently used by the boy scout troops. The campground store is very nice and I always end up spending money on trinkets and souvenirs. If you're going to the Festival of Lights, the shops are right across the street from the campground and very easy to walk to. This makes it super easy to buy ornaments before the shops get crowded and get train tickets before they sell out. 4 stars instead of 5 for just a few drawbacks. One, because football season is rough there. No cable, no TVs anywhere in the park to go watch the games, and digital antenna picks up only the most basic channels. The wi-fi at the campground store is good but only if you're standing in the store. Even a few RV spots away, you'll need a satellite with you to get your favorite football games. Also, some of the camping spots within our group needed a little TLC. The ash in the firepit from the previous guest was all the way up to the rim, leaving us to do the cleanup work. Campground staff was zooming around on their golf carts at way too fast speeds, making us nervous with our kids trying to ride their bikes. For the price we paid, it was very good but not great - a hard packed dirt spot with no cable/wi-fi and a sewer line at our neighboor's back door.

The evenings are quiet after 10pm. It is family oriented and dog friendly too. We were more interested in getting into Charleston on Sunday and Uber picks up right by the general store all the time. This is really a lovely spot with lots to do.

My husband had a course to take in the Charleston area and we booked Lake Aire Campground from June…read more15 - 20 while he attended that course. What a disappointment Lake Aire CG turned out to be. The two designated dump stations were not working therefore two RV sites were set up for that. Neither of them were easy to get to upon leaving the campground. The bathrooms were not that clean, nor was the laundry facility. We don't use the showers, etc. on site, but we judge the way a campground is run on whether these facilities are kept clean and tidy. According to the full-time resident next to our site, the washers and dryers are often out of order. The pool was not open either. We couldn't wait to leave and did so a day early. Lake Aire in general is run-down and in need of better management.

I can't believe I didn't review this when we stayed here for a week exactly a year ago! But we're…read morehere again this year, so that should say something! This is a quiet privately owned campground that is a great "home base" for visiting Charleston. With traffic, you are about half an hour away from downtown. Does this place have all the bells and whistles of an RV resort? No, but what it does have is pretty great. Read the reviews from years back, and I can tell you from experience that they continually work to upgrade this park. We see the improvements in just a year, and honestly, it was pretty close to perfect for us last year. Let me address a few of the negative older (very old) reviews. Mud - yes, you are in the Carolinas. It rains. (It's called the Low Country for a reason). Management has put down tons of gravel to address the issue. Not only was it not a problem last year, they have added even more gravel since we were here and despite the recent rain (tonight even), there is no standing water and it has drained. Permanent residents - yes they are here. But unlike other campgrounds where they are insular and sometimes downright unfriendly (or worse, sketchy), the residents here are a community and welcome you with open arms. In fact, they participate in the Kindness Rocks Project (Google it - seriously do). We have never felt more welcome at any other campground then we do here. The new sites are being built - unfortunately not completed for our visit this year, but they are close and they look like they are going to be really nice. Level concrete pads, nice fire pits, etc. Think patio sites at a KOA without the KOA price. Bathrooms and showers - we don't need to use them, however I have looked and they are well maintained and have been updated. In fact just today, the maintenance people were meeting with a resident (who also doesn't need to use them) listening to her ideas to further improve them. I overheard them. Not being able to book a specific site - so last year (our first) we weren't able to, but we wouldn't have known what to ask for anyway. We were put in C-7 (highly recommend). This year they sent an email to ask and we said a new site, but if they weren't complete yet, we'd love to have C-7 again. Guess where I am writing this review from! It is pretty obvious that the staff tries to accommodate guests. The Train - yes, there are tracks close by and they are in use. Do they disturb? Not really. We don't even hear it at night in our camper. During the day? We've heard it twice when we are outside. As in twice per day - it blows once as it approaches the crossing. Big deal? No. Not really at all. I could go on and on (and probably already have) about why we really like this place - suffice it to say: Friendly and responsive staff, welcoming residents, a country feel this close to Charleston and accessibility (if you are looking at the place up the street (that has Oak in the name, good luck getting in or out, especially during morning and afternoon rush) will keep us coming back to Lake Aire.

This company runs ferry services with tours of Bull's Island and St. Phillips Island, which I've…read morereviewed separately. Those are great. The company also run various canoe and kayak tours, which have been a bit of a nightmare for me. The Lowcountry wetlands are fantastic and demand to be experienced close up, and many of the tour options sound great. They run quite infrequently, and even when offered, have been unreliable in my experience. To some extent, this can be attributed to weather and varying demand, which is a hassle but is part of the business. Wisely, they don't actually charge you money until you are actually at your tour doing stuff. However, I haven't forgiven them for the one time I made an online reservation at the last minute only to drive to a site at 6 AM and find the tour was canceled, with no one around to answer the phone and an active listing still on their website. They were apologetic, but didn't really do much for me. When tours are unavailable, I keep getting calls asking me to reschedule for another day, which strikes me as tone-deaf. There may be a market of people who hang around waiting for a midweek spot to open up, but I would think that many of us are tourists who aren't there for very long (I'm rarely in Charleston for more than 48 hours, and it takes a lot for me to get there at all), and even the locals I assume must have jobs. If I scheduled for X day, I probably want to do something on X day. What's also irritating is that their website, while flashy, doesn't have a calendar. You have to search through a dozen infrequently offered niche tours to see if you can find something that's available when you're available rather than just seeing what is launching on the day that you're around and free. They really don't seem to get my needs in that regard. When I finally, after frankly a year of trying, found a kayak tour that actually fit my schedule, it was beautiful weather, beautiful scenery, and some hard work. Wildlife abounds, and my trip through the Kiawah River area yielded sightings - albeit sometimes fleeting ones - of everything from a roseate spoonbill to a dolphin trapping fish against an oyster bar. The people running the tours and the equipment are good enough, and while these things aren't cheap I still leave a tip. The scenery delivers, but this tour company hasn't always met my expectations. I'm just not aware of anyone else that gives you the same chance to see this particular environment.

They are converting it into an event space, which hasn't really started yet, so outside of some restrooms the building is blocked off as if anyone who walked through it was in mortal danger. They describe the current status of the park as a "soft opening", during which one can utilize the outdoor areas for picnic space and such. And when you get a look at them, you'll see why. This plot of land has splendid views looking out over the harbor, where the Ravenel bridge, Fort Sumter, and the city itself can be viewed clearly. The waterside is grassy, but you can walk along it for a bit and there was an enormous population of small crabs to watch skittering around. There were several different spaces to sit with this view, including a gazebo with a screen around it if you are concerned about bugs (which were not a huge issue when I dropped in, but I'm sure they are some of the time). There is no charge to get in, and while it's not an especially happening place, it's good that this land has opened up for public use.
