About two weeks before the big day, we saw that the forecast called for showers throughout Memorial Day weekend, particularly the Sunday of our planned cruise. We monitored the weather and decided to make a decision closer to the day. Throughout the entire process of planning, Oliver was responsive, reliable, accommodating, and kind. On the morning of the trip, Oliver gave us multiple options and worked with us to make sure that we could cancel and get a full refund due to the inclement weather. He provided us with agency up to the last hour of decision making. On a day that could have been really stressful, Oliver alleviated some of that stress. That is exceptional customer service, and that is the reason we will be coming back to the Argia for another special occasion. The boat has different seating options - wooden benches and cushion seats without backrests. We reserved two of the cushioned areas and showed up ready to check in on time (they ask you to show up about 30 minutes before boarding to check in). You board at the dock just next to the bridge in Mystic, so it couldn't be more convenient if you're exploring Mystic for a day or a weekend. The Argia allows you to bring alcohol (wine and beer) on board (although they ask that you not bring large coolers - there's no room for them), so we brought a couple of bottles of wine bought from the great wine shop down the street. The sail is partly narrated. Our sail was two hours long, and the staff narrated for some of the sailing time - pointing out historic and interesting sites along the sail (islands with an interesting history, homes with interesting architecture, etc.). Between the gorgeous scenery, some narration of fun and interesting facts about Mystic and its harbor, the great wine we'd brought aboard, and great company - it was the perfect way to spend a couple of hours in Mystic. What a beautiful way to enjoy Mystic and its harbor!

The fish of the day to catch was fluke. Everyone in our 6 person party caught one along with about two dozen sea robins. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and Captain Peter was in high spirits. Besides the many stops, we got a great view of the city and Long Island. For lunch they had a decent amount of drinks and fast food for sale (burgers). The price (around $80pp) is a little on the steeper end, but it was worth the trip for sure. At the end of the trip one of the crewmen filleted any fish you caught for you (tip the man!). I would recommend checking out these guys if you are in the NYC area and want a fun day trip.

While Bill was driving the boat to our first spot James gave us a rundown and said we would start of bottom fishing for sea bass and then make our way to some striper fishing. We made it to our first spot and dropped our lines. Some of us had never been deep sea fishing so James helped us to make sure we were doing it correctly. It started off slow but towards the end of the trip we had to hide in the boat cabin to bait the hooks! All kidding aside, each time we pulled up our line and we're missing bait, James would practically run to add more bait to the line so we got in all the fishing we could. James helped land all of our catches and even filleted everything for us on the way back to shore. Bill was very knowledgeable about exactly where to go and where the fish were hiding. The whole trip was so much fun. Bill and James helped make it a great trip, offering to take pictures for us, letting us ride up at the top of the boat and answering any questions we had. Well, you probably should have told us that when we called & by the way we are 40 years old and had a couple cans of beers in the cooler. Not 21 years old with beer bongs. Anyway, the 3 beers were under all the ice and under our food,pop, waters so we left them and planned on not drinking them. Later at noon we went to get our sandwiches and the staff had sneakily went through the cooler and took them. Really? We didn't care that it was a dry trip, but very pissed someone would go through my belongings without me present. Last, I realize the charter can't necessarily guarantee catching a fish. However, no one was catching and it was advertised as a bass & blue fishing trip and then was changed to a fluke trip when we got on board. Here's a tip: change the name from "party fishing boat" to "sneaky rip off".

My brother in law and I made the trip from Texas to fish with Captain Jay and First Mate Justin on…read more9/18 and 9/19/2025. We fished two full days and to say the fishing was good would be an understatement. We had two completely different days weather wise. Thursday was cloudy and cool and Friday was clear and warm. Thursday was better from a numbers standpoint, We caught about 15 striper with 8-10 of those being 30 lbs plus - big fish was 42 lbs. We also caught 10 -12 nice blue fish. Friday was the tougher of the two days because of the sun and number of boats in the area but we still had six nice striper and another 10-12 really nice blue fish. Our five biggest striper weighed 179 pounds (31-34-34-38 and another 42 pounder)! The "dink" was still a 10 pounder. On Friday we were within a hundred yards of several boats and they got to watch us catch fish while we watched them catch notta! I can honestly say that when we had baits in the water Jay had us on fish. There were many times when Justin couldn't get the second line out before there was a fish on the first line and we doubled up several times each day. About the boat - it is very clean, plenty comfortable and ran like a top. You could relax inside out of the rain Thursday and it was nice to be able to get out of the sun on Friday while going to and from the fishing grounds. Having a restroom on board during a 10 hour trip was a must. Jay really knows his stuff and Justin was by far the hardest working First Mate I have fished with. We are hooked (pun intended) and will definitely be back to fish with them next year. Book with confidence and opt for the 10 hour trip to give yourself as much time in the chair as possible!
