We adopted two small shih tzu between the ages of 8-10 years old. We were not sure how they would do with grooming since there isn't any records on these doggie. We were treated so nice and friendly. Both owners and dogs were treated awesome. They groomed the dogs. Absolutely fantastic . What I love is that it doesn't seem like the groomers answers phones. Which is great. That means they are next to the dogs the whole time. As an over protective pet parent this means a lot but that's not even the best. They both smell and look like a million bucks. It was so great to see that. Also on arrival they didn't know that we were there and they took the doggies out for a walk. They know they must have gold it long. This is a place that understand animals. I can't tell you how grateful I am for this place. It's a live heaven on earth for my fur kids. Love it. The groom was okay and was pretty quick. We did a hands-on assessment with the groomer and I really thoroughly made sure to check and talk about spots that he had knots and any issues, I was not told that my dog had any matting during this assessment. Of course because he is a poodle mix, when I picked him up, there was an up charge for him being poodle and a matting fee. I've gotten the same quality grooms at Petsmart for about $40-$50 less. I think this location is very convenient and the service they provided was fine, but their rates are significantly higher for not necessarily a higher quality groom. I would be wary of bringing a poodle mix here in the future, I have a feeling the matting fee is some thing they're generally charging. read more

Hello, Saint was in on 3/17/23 for a full grooming. I am unsatisfied with the services. The more I look at saint the more I become upset. I called and spoke Erin (not sure) and she spoke to the groomer. This is $75.00 later. I expressed my disappointment in the services and she spoke with the groomer and told me that the groomer was hesitant with the cut. I asked for a cute poodle look framing of the face and body cut low and poofy/fluffy legs. He did not get the cut I requested. His eyes and chin are still dirty. They told me they didn't spray him with the perfume because the groomer was unsure of the cut. He stinks and does not look like he was bathed. His ear fur looks dirty and his cut is uneven all over. His ears don't even looked brushed. I want him re-bathed, sprayed and his uneven hair cut re-trimmed. They offered a cut however what are they going to cut the stray hairs! I have emailed 2x to request a full refund. Still waiting to hear back. read more

Stopped in to get my pup a treat while we were on a road trip for being so good in the car. They have a water bowl right when you walk in which is always appreciated, esp on hot days! I have been going to riverfront pets for many years. The previous owners were superb. The new owner not so much. They started to charge for each knot the dog has and i have a long hair dog. I go every 2 weeks to avoid knots. Yesterday they charged 19$ additional for knots although i brush him every other day. It is truly ridiculous. My groomer there was Gloria which was wonderful but for some unknown reason they changed all my appointment to another groomer that I do not like at all. First my dog did not like her at all as I was told that he barked for the whole hour he was there although he does not with gloria. I do not need to get stressed out by taking my dog to be groomed and put up with such arrogance. read more

We've tried several groomers including petco and petsmart over the past 3 years since we got our cavalier King Charles. They are by far the best that have cut him. We don't care if he looks like his breed. With a new infant, we want to keep his hair short and clean. Somehow they've given him the perfect cut. Perfect all around. He looks like he was born a short-haired dog. His hair looks like suede. We will never take him anywhere else. The only challenge is parking so me and hubby go together so one of us can stay in the car if no legal parking is available. Riverfront Pets was owned by the most wonderful people. My dog would in there and as treated like royalty. Unfortunately, things have done downhill. I made an appointment on Friday for my dog's nails. They returned my call on Saturday saying that they didn't write down the information. The time that they said was available was no longer available. On Monday, the day of the appointment, they asked several names before I gave them my dog's name, Lucy. I barely walked to Del Pez to find that it was closed to return to find that my dog's nails were done. The groomer claimed that she clipped and drilled them. Upon coming home, I found her nails quite rough. I called the store and spoke to the manager, Erin (who was typically quite friendly). She said that she would finish the job for free. Unfortunately, I live 30 minutes away. Needless to say, I declined the offer especially since my dog does not enjoy car rides. Needless to say, I am very disappointed. I always get anxiety bringing my dog anywhere, especially dropping her off all alone but here put my mind at ease. They don't use cages so my pup wasn't crying in a cage for half the grooming, plus they do her all at one time, it's not an all day event like some places I've brought my dog too. The groomer was kind, as well as everyone I spoke to over the phone. My daisy was fresh and clean and most importantly happy when i picked her up. They were gentle on her and took their time. Riverfront Pets is a premier establishment. Their involvement here at the Riverfront is a wonderful resource for all of us with pets . The grooming services are , by far, the best in the area. I have raised , shown and cared for the breed I love for 46 years and the professionalism and precision these groomers provide cannot be matched. I also want to mention from a previous review that care of our animals sometimes includes , with long haired breeds especially, daily brushing to avoid matting . Learned from old timers years ago to run a quick brush through the coat in the morning and quickly wipe the face and body with a wet wipe. It works. My dog has had no problem getting groomed at other groomers downstate. We recently moved to Wilmington and came here for the first time.... my dog came home shaved RAW and trembling. He had a few mats in his fur but the other groomers have had no trouble trimming around these mats, there was no reason to shave him down to his raw skin! The groomers blamed it on him, saying he was aggressive and angry. Once again, this hasn't been an issue at other groomers. I'm attaching a pic of him before and a few pics after, where you can literally see how uncomfortable he is. I can't wait to bring my fur baby back here. We have a five year old 26 pound Maine coon that fights us just to brush him. So he was in need of a good bath and trim. Between calling to make the appointment, checking in, and checking out each employee was as polite as the last. We got the works which included a bath, brush, and trim. He was done so quickly I couldn't believe it. When we got home my cat was purring super happy and no signs of stress. He smelled so good and they did such a great job with the wash I swear he was three shades lighter then when he was dropped off. Overall, I highly recommend this place. I was immediately told by the cashier that the self-service washing area would be closing at 4:00pm, one hour before the store closed, and I had a half hour to wash my dog. I explained that I not only called but I was also online, and nothing online said that self-service closed one hour earlier. They let me still me attempt to was my dog, but the water was cold and the shampoo was watery. I only attempted to try to wash my dog and get warm water out of the faucet for about 20 minutes. I explained that I couldn't continue due to the cold water and the watery shampoo. I asked if I could bring my dog back the next day for free proper wash with warm water, and I was told no, even though I was only there for about 20 minutes. I didn't feel welcomed. This place is great. It's local, convenient, they have fun events, friendly employees etc. However, the true gem in this place is how they treat your dog during grooming. When I've picked my dog up at other groomers I immediately hear my dog barking her head off and crying in a kennel in the back. She RARELY barks but being in a foreign place with no one around is when she will bark because she thinks she's being abandoned. When I picked up my dog from being groomed at Riverfront Pet, I did not hear her barking which I thought was odd. I found out that she was just chilling behind the counter hanging out with the employees waiting for me! Stopped by here today to grab some treats and hay for my guinea pigs. While the selection for small pets was narrow, they had everything I needed! Many pet stores stock a lot of junky products, but this store focused on high quality guinea pig supplies from reputable companies, especially Oxbow. I have a preference for Oxbow because the animal shelter I got my pets from recommended it, and my picky little pigs won't tolerate any other brand of hay (no idea how they can tell the difference, but they CAN. Never underestimate a guinea pig). The staff were friendly and helpful, and the prices were reasonable. Thistle is amazing. It had everything we needed. My 3 month old puppy Kona was throwing up in the car while on our way from Dc to Maine. Then we stopped for a little bit at the gas station and realized we had forgotten the leash. At such a young age we were a bit afraid of letting her go because there was so many cars. We found this pet store. We walked in picked out a leash and we ended up walking out with a bone a jacket and a blanket. The Staff there was amazing and incredibly helpful. These folks are trying to wrap all your pet needs together -- and doing a mighty fine job. I brought my two new dogs in for a do-it-yourself bath. They have tubs that suit both big and small dogs, shampoo, a dryer and drying towels aplenty. In addition to some well selected retail and dog walking/training /grooming services, they seem to do lots of work with the humane society. I'm clearly a fan. Had my puppy groomed here and he came out injured. When I took him from the groomer (who told me he was terrified, thanks for that) and held him he screamed. I thought (mistakenly) he was still frightened from the experience. Took him across the street to pee and noticed his harness was on as a collar. Went to pick him up he screamed again. Through the next few hours realized his rib cage was injured. Called the next morning to ask what happened no one knew anything except that yes he was fine when I dropped him off. The owner called I told her I was going to take him to the vet (since working I couldn't go for three days) and she said to keep in touch. I asked why his harness was on like a collar (because if it was put on properly it would have hurt his injured ribs) she asked the groomer and said I am not happy with this answer either - some harnesses are hard to put on - a puppy harness? and she's a groomer? My puppy slowly stopped screaming, then wimpering until I could carry him again. I called and left a message and let her know that he was feeling better and didn't need to go to the vet but could she please put it in my file that I did not want that groomer again. "Clinton" returned my call not sure who he is to say that they were happy my puppy was ok but maybe I should find a different groomer. I said that's what I asked for he said no not one here just find another groomer!!!!! They injured my pet, I am willing to give them a second chance, and they tell me to find another groomer. I am still in shock, I had taken my last dog there with no problems, left a nice tip, was reasonable, but they don't want my business.
