Some cities have some thriving markets and food halls, so maybe I was expecting too much from Riverfront. We visited yesterday, during a day trip to Wilmington and New Castle. The market is small (maybe 5-6 stands) and it felt a little ... I'm sorry, but dead? We were there around 11:30 on a Saturday, and there were very few people there. We did end up getting a snack, but the market just didn't seem very alive. The architecture of the space is really cool, so I felt that the space wasn't being taken full advantage of. Ultimately, not a place I'd recommend you check out if you're in Wilmington for a short time. Certainly more vibrant, fun places to check out. read more

Idk I guess I was expecting much more like a smaller version of Reading terminal. First of all I came on a. Saturday afternoon and it was completely empty like completely dead. Some restaurants were even closed. I was expecting at least a bigger produce market and was disappointed to see no bakery or meat market. It was basically a food court with less than 10 restaurants. RUN, don't walk! Incredible options for food. My family and I are visiting for a youth football event and our hotel was less than a mile away. The Peruvian chicken empanadas from PACHAMAMA's were fresh and delicious, simply amazing. I wanted to go back for more! We also grabbed salads and a sandwich from Savannahs which were pretty good, nothing special. The real kicker was the fresh fruit section, like literally cutting the fruit and packaging it. I also grabbed a fresh fruit juice "Berry Antioxidant" which was GREAT. Highly suggest visiting, they also had a soul food, Thai, and sushi spot but all were closed when I went. read more

Riverfront Market is a glorified food court housed in a redeveloped brick and beam warehouse on the banks of the Christina River in Wilmington, DE. It was built under the auspices of the state funded Riverfront Development Corporation in the late 1990s. It is an interesting destination in a part of town that was weed filled lots and dilapidated buildings prior to the large investment of taxpayer funds. It is much better to reestablish a functional, economically viable commercial center than to leave it forgotten and abandoned. The mix of dining choices comes from all locally owned food outlets of varying ethnicity, including, Mexican, Thai, Italian, cheesesteak and Korean green grocer. New kitchens are taking the place of those that have not survived. With hours from 6 to 6, it is primarily a lunch choice, with only the Mexican place open for business when I arrived at 4 on a Friday. The rest were already locked down, or being cleaned and straighten in preparation for the next day. The building is historically attractive, a pleasant place to walk around or sit at the many tables around the retail space or the second story open balconies. I was the only customer in the house and had time to explore before and after eating my tacos carnitas. It was disappointing that they were unable to sustain their businesses the entire day, but the market has made it this far (with possible subsidies), and the city and state should assure that it can continue to attract people to this part of town. read more

While the Riverfront Market can't compare with Philly's Reading Terminal Market, it's pretty darn good for a city of Wilmington's size. The Riverfront Market is a great example of adaptive reuse. The restored warehouse building serves as a great setting for a marketplace. Inside you can find a variety of vendors ranging from Japanese and Thai food to fresh produce and a bake shop. The market bustles during the weekday lunch rush, attracting patrons from the various financial institutions located nearby. Outside of these hours it has a much more relaxed feel. Many people grab food to go and scurry back to their offices, but seating is available throughout the building as well as outside. When it comes to urban revitalization in Wilmington, much work remains to be done. The Riverfront Market is an example of something done right. read more

What a cute little place! Located in downtown Wilmington DE, the Riverfront Market is right in the middle of everything along the Delaware River. They have tons of free parking outside and several little tables under an awning. This place is somewhat like a food court- it's got about 8-10 little restaurants and food stands inside of it with plenty of seating around the building (great for large groups!). My friends got the Tokyo Sushi which looked tasty & was moderately priced. I got a cheesesteak, fries & a drink, which was like $11. The cheesesteak was really good- I was impressed!! They also have a little produce market in the middle of the building that offers fresh fruit, veggies, fruit bowls, homemade salsa/guacamole/chicken salad. They had Thai and Pizza too, and we got a piece of cheesecake from a little deli that makes tasty desserts. All in all, I'm a big fan of this place... I'd like to see more varieties go in here & maybe build on & add more shops :) read more

It's right next to Harry's Seafood in downtown Wilmington (near the train station). They have a variety of different stands. I came here for lunch and got something from the delii ($7 even for a sandwich, chips, and drink). They have places to sit too if you want to eat your lunch there. They have fruit smoothies, cheesesteaks, seafood (sandwiches from Harry's seafood), deli sandwiches, chicken burritos, salads, and sushi. They have other snacks too like chips, fruit, etc. Great place to come by and get lunch esp if you're sick of the other downtown places in Wilmington considering there aren't many restaurants. Surprised a lot of people still do not know or find a reason not to try this market, but its a really great find. A convenient place to have informal group lunches since they have a variety of eating options all in one place with seating on both the first and second floors. I can come here everyday and have something different. Food options range from Tokyo Sushi, Jeenwong's Thai Cuisine, BellaVista Trattoria pizza, cheese steaks and breakfast sandwiches from Cheese Steak Factory, salads from the Riverfront Produce stand, cold cut sandwiches from Water Street Deli, and fish and chips from Harry's Fish Market. Honestly, if you cant find something to eat here you must be extremely picky. Parking can sometimes be a problem, but I used to be able to walk from work so that wasnt a problem for me at the time. They have an overflow lot across the street which is an option when its packed. They are basically a breakfast and lunch only place, but most vendors are there afterwards prep/cleaning so if you want dinner call ahead and place your order to pick up before they leave. read more

Great place for lunch during a downtown workday in Wilmington. The market contains a small flourist, a sushi cafe and several other booths for hot food; from steak sandwiches to awesome salads. Need a postcard from glamorous Wilmington, DE? You'll find one here. Seating can be slightly challenging during a busy lunch hour but eases quickly. Also a great stop if you want lunch and need to pick up some fresh chicken or beef for dinner or a few fresh vegetables. This place is a nice place to spend some time with friends. But the food is not good. The Thai place was GROSS. It wasn't even Thai. It was more like bad chinese food. The only YUMMY place is the Pizza Place inside. The Pizza is fresh and really flavorful. They have good lunch specials there. The Farmers Market inside does carry some yummy items from different parts of Asia. But it is pricey compared to other Asian markets I have been to. They have this Bakery inside that has some pretty looking cakes. But I have not tried them yet. So if anyone tries them, please let me know! I would like to know since the place is walking distance from my place. Overall, you are not missing out on too much...expect the Pizza maybe. Restrooms- There are restrooms upstairs and some downstairs that is shared with the general public. They are hit and miss in cleanliness. Parking- Parking lot. Cost: Pricey, The only place that is worth every dine is the Pizza Place. Most places on take cash. Ambiance- Casual but you will see many people in bussiness attire because of the many banking companies around the place. Crowded. Loud. Not a great place for a date, but a good place to meet up with work buddies. Suggestions: This is a good place to take kids to learn about diverse foods. I take students to the farmers market inside and ask them to ID the fruits and where they come from. I've been to the Riverfront Market twice and both times was kind of underwhelmed. I could imagine this place draws a good crowd during the work week and everything is open. However, I don't work locally so I've only ever been here on the weekend. It's always been very slow business wise when I've been there so I'd say it's a decent place for a quiet lunch or snack. read more

Housed in an bright and well kept open warehouse style building, to categorize this as a 'produce market' is really wrong. This is only slightly more of a produce market than "Boston Market." Mainly it is a food court. A high quality, locally owned, non-chain outlet food court, but still a food court - with a small market for fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, and snacks. Great variety of vendors. Sushi, deli, pizza, Mexican, cheesesteaks... All the good stuff. The only bad part is seating. If you go around noon, chances are you wont get a table to eat your meal which is really frustrating and inconvenient. read more

Riverfront Market is my go-to whenever I'm waiting for a Greyhound bus. It's only a few blocks away from the Greyhound and Amtrak stations, and it's filled with different vendors. I love the scenic walk, right next to the river~ Don't spend $7 for that pathetic excuse for a chicken salad sandwich at the Amtrak Cafe, but spend that money on homemade chowder or sushi~ Seating is plentiful! read more

It may still rank high for Wilmington, but I'd say, travelers beware. If you're coming in from the train station theres no better bet, just keep your expectations low. It's such a great place! Its like a food court only cleaner and more good feeling. Theres so many things to eat there, you can get pizza, cheese steak, sushi (my favorite), sandwiches, thai food, etc. There's even a fruit stand. Honestly, its a great place to get some work done too. You can eat lunch while sipping on a cup of coffee from the Effocs coffee and eat some lunch while you work upstairs. Its very nice. A very underrated place. I recommend this place to everyone! read more
