I took my 7 year old into this practice on Monday June 24th at 2.30pm. This was an emergency walk in situation in which my daughter had fallen at school, ripped her lip and dislodged a tooth. It was a terrible ordeal for her. As this office was the closest to my home, I was had no other choice but to brave a walk in.
I was greeted by the very helpful and kind receptionist. She directed me to fill out some paperwork and immediately got us into see her dentist. Dr. Mona. My first impressions of this office was one of a welcoming and respectful practice and I was relieved that my daughter was going to be seen a dentist so quickly as her tooth was bleeding and in need of emergency surgery.
Dr. Mona walked up to us and invited us back to the room. From the first go, she looked utterly annoyed to have us there. Without a word of hello, she started ragging on my 7 year old. "what happened to you?" My 7 year old, who had been through a very rough ordeal, obvious was in tears and was not able to formulate a coherent sentence.
Again she prompted in a loud and mean voice, "I asked you, what happened to you? I asked you a question, why don't you answer me". I interjected, and explained the situation to this 'Dentist' on what had transpired. She shook her head, as if in disgust.
I was shocked, but given our plight, and my daughter's condition, I was forced to endure this ignorant and disgusting behavior. Her behavior worsened when she examined my daughter.
When she started poking around my child's mouth, she obviously felt discomfort and started to cry. To which, this 'Dentist' snapped and yelled at her to "Don't start now. Don't start now!!".
What kind of bedside manner is this?
She again started to snap back at my daughter saying that, "If you don't want my help, I cannot help you". She then said, "If you don't want it to hurt, I can give you a needle. Do you think that will be better" I was shocked and I snapped back.
I said to her, "She is only a child. Don't speak to her like that. Have some respect and practice some self restraint and some bedside manner. Why do you need to be so mean to her? Hasn't she been through enough, and now she has to put up with your terrible attitude towards her".
At which point, she toned down and said, "I am only saying what I have to say".
I should have walked out of that office immediately, but the situation was dire and my child needed immediate attention, so we stayed and she performed an emergency extraction.
I have 2 children, and in all my years of experience with Physicians and humans in general, have I never dealt with such a horrible individual. perhaps she as having a bad day and was taking it out on my child. Whatever the reason, I am shocked and appalled by this type of behavior from a "professional'.
I will be taking this matter up with the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Canada. We are all human beings and deserve to be treated with respect, not with disdain and disgust by those in positions of power and authority. read more
