I moved in here with my wife because the pricing was among the best for the amount of square footage we were getting. That was the biggest perk, and it turns out it was the only perk.
The managers are friendly, but are not capable of handling any sort of issues without panic and hysteria. For example, I informed the manager that my peephole in the door was foggy and appeared to have gotten moisture inside of it. The manager panicked as if I had just said an exterior wall was missing. Then claimed that it must not be wet and was probably fine. I said it really was showing water droplets inside and was told they would get someone to look at it. That was months ago, and nothing was ever done about it. Thankfully the weather has warmed up and it has resolved itself now.
Several times we have had random and new rules spring out of nowhere that we are expected to follow, but others are not. For example, we put deck decorations on the deck. We got a call from the manager within a week saying we have to take them down because they are not allowed. We asked why they were not allowed so we could possibly come up with something else that would be allowed. We were told the were not allowed because the owner did not like them. The manager even stated on the phone that they were cute and in good taste.
I asked what else was not allowed so I didn't violate any other rules and was told that appliances (washers, dryers, freezers, etc), charcoal grills, and excessive furniture or anything else that could be considered tacky was not allowed.
When I went to remove the patio decorations, I noticed a washer and dryer on another deck, charcoal grills on several decks, and several decks that appeared to be used for storage and were cluttered and messy.
Mold is a constant and real problem. I bought a hygrometer (device to measure the humidity). and found that the humidity is often around the 90% mark in the wetter months, and even in the summer it rarely is below 55-60% humidity. The best help we got from management was the suggestion to use a dehumidifier. We were told they would reimburse for extra electricity used but we never saw a penny of that.
I'm sure I could complain and maybe get reimbursed, but it isn't worth the time and trouble. Friends have said that mold is a big deal and Oregon has laws making it easy for renters to get mold issues resolved, but I haven't wanted to fight it.
If you're familiar with mold laws and don't mind suing, it might be a good place to stay.
Finally, the office is almost always closed. I have gone to the office over 30 times in the past week during the posted business hours and found nobody there.
Hopefully the post office doesn't deliver something to the office to be held for you because you may not get it from the locked office for a week or two.
Also, the laundry machines on property use tokens that you must buy from the office. I buy enough for a week or two at a time, but when I can't get into the office for a week or two at a time, it's hard to do the laundry.
To be fair, one of the managers is out with a medical issue, but even before that the office was closed so often I had to go check an average of 3-4 times to get anything from them.
If you don't mind mold and sugar ants, don't have much and are just looking for a place to crash while at the college across the road, it's not a bad place. To the point that I almost upped the stars, but the issues were so prominent to me it was hard. And then the following happened.
Because of the office being closed so often and not being able to get packages, tokens for the laundry machines, or other business tended to, we tried to call the area manager to ask how we are supposed to be able to meet someone in the office. No answer. We tried calling the property owner. I was completely mind blown by the conversation.
In short, after asking if someone could be hired to help with staffing the office during normal office hours or somehow changing something so that we could get our packages out of the office and buy laundry tokens, he said "Sounds like you should move."
The owner said we should give notice and move since we wanted to be able to do our laundry, pick up packages, and meet with office staff during posted office hours. read more
