Well, it was MORE than nice! We had such a wonderful stay. The B&B is all novel (as in books) themed - but not in a kitschy way, more a classy way. There is the Classics Room, Mystery Room, etc. with novels from that genre for your reading pleasure. The hosts were terrific! The thought, care and details taken in the rooms, food and living room area were outstanding. As an example, when we arrived Ali (the owner) had left a printed map and the daily events schedule for each day that we would be at Stampede in our room. There were fresh baked cookies every night, delicious homemade breakfast (with several options to choose from) and a cozy living room to relax in. We met other folks staying there, had great conversations and laughs! The location was near, not only Stampede, but lots of great restaurants and shops. Staying here was truly a highlight of our trip!

Everyone in the circle could play a guitar and most of us could sing bad versions of Tracy Chapman's "Sorry". But alas many years have gone by and a handful of those friends went on to successfully record CDs and are now doing extremely well in the Canadian folk scene. Recently one of my closest friends told me she would be singing with her group at a bed and breakfast in town and would I come and watch her. So before the show I called this B & B, to reserve my place for the evening and the owner Kelly was delighted to have me. He said that he arranged a potluck for the peeps coming and would I bring some wine? How wonderful! Hughes' B&B is a sweet unassuming Victorian house located on a quiet street in the northeast of Calgary. As soon as I walked towards the house, I was greeted with smiles and recieved the warmest hospitality from the host akin to when I used to live up north. The house is beautiful; hardwood floors, stained glass windows, an exceptionally well kept and spacious environment. Of course my friend's band was a huge success and we watched her quartet in the foyer of the quaint B&B. It had the sensibility of a family reunion or basically as if friends had invited me over to watch them play. The dining room table was strewn with assorted cheeses and homemade dishes and there was a collection of many bottles of wine and liquor in the kitchen. Kelly made sure that all his guests were comfortable and enjoying the festivities. If Hughes' B&B is indicative of the hospitality of this musical get together, I would recommend it highly as a wonderful place to stay for any out of towners. It is located very near the Zoo and Fort Calgary.

Inglewood is located at the junction of the Bow and Elbow rivers with lots of hiking trails and birding. Every bedroom has a private bathroom and all the plumbing and electrical are new, unlike the older B&Bs. The WiFi is free and has very good connection strength. There are different sized rooms to accommodate different traveler's needs. Valinda and Helmut, the owners and hosts, are very friendly, outgoing and offer a variety of extra services - transportation to/from the airport, coupons and discounts to local attractions, directions and suggestions on where to dine, how to get there, etc. The breakfast options include a choice of breads and fruit, egg dishes and fruit, or cereal and fruit. All items are very fresh and very tasty. My wife and I stay here when we first arrived in Calgary. We spent 2 weeks in Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper before returning for 3 days to attend the Stampede. We enjoyed being in walking distance of the Stampede, the Calgary zoo, and down town Calgary. We enjoyed the other guests while we were staying there. People were from England, Ontario, college students from Edmonton and a family visiting Alberta from the USA. The bedrooms are large, well maintained, decorated in a Victorian style and well appointed. We used the refrigerator for our evening white wine and beer, and soft drinks for the day. This is a very friendly and enjoyable Bed and Breakfast with reasonable prices. We highly recommend it and will definitely be back.
