Well the three of us found this little locals only (mostly) joint and couldn't have been happier.. They had everything good coffee waffles Benedict's cold milk. Super friendly vibe with a great waiter!!! I'd go out of my way to go to this little off the beaten path (Cave Junction is off the beaten path imho). No food pics sorry The portions were generous and the prices were very fair esp for a joint that's in the middle of nowhere...cave junction is a blink of an eye kinda town. Lots to miss. Passing through town early in the morning, we called in a takeout order. The staff were friendly & efficient! We ordered a half order of biscuits and gravy with eggs and sausage. Absolutely delicious! The biscuit was fluffy and the gravy was on point. We also ordered a one egg, bacon and potatoes combo. Again, the food was perfect and the portions were generous. Looking forward to our next trip and staying to dine in. The energy and atmosphere made me want to stay and eat but I had to get back on the road. read more

This is a great little diner- unfortunately I have celiac- the waitress was very helpful and warned me that pretty much the safest thing for me was a salad. I had the chefs salad and my non celiac spouse had a delicious looking breakfast with amazing looking hash browns. For starters, the woman who hosted and served us was very friendly, with us and all of the other patrons. She works hard to make each customer feel welcome. The food, HIT the SPOT! 3 of us had BLTs with fries, and we couldn't stop eating it, it was all so good! Perfectly cooked bacon, with fresh romaine and tomato on nicely crispy toast. Yum. Really good Arnold Palmer's, with refills that kept coming. Even though we were full, we decided it would be a good idea to try a dessert. This place is an amazing Mom and Pop vibe diner. They have a an item called Mt.Ashland and it is in fact a mountain of food on your plate piled high with eggs cheese ham potatos and topped with gravy. We split it between 3 people and still struggled to finish it. Very reasonably priced, clean atmosphere with very helpful staff :) read more

When we were there they were extremely busy with a line to get a table. It was Sunday morning and very few alternatives, so we decided to wait. Amazingly we didn't have to wait long. My former review still stands. Just wanted to do a lunch menu update since there isn't a website & a new menu update hasn't been posted in a while. The staff is great, the food is down-home, what more can you ask for? The only reason it isn't 5 stars is that I think they could stand to do some updating &/or deep cleaning & fixing up of the dining room seating. They're very busy, especially during the breakfast & lunch rushes, so I'm sure they can find a way to sink some capital into updating the front of the house, especially now that we're going into summer & so many people will be passing through town while going to & from the coast. Either way, it's a great little spot that I've now visited 5 times in the past month while in the area, visiting. Hint - the cheeseburger with a side is simple perfection (& under $10). read more

Decent diner food in Cave Junction! This is a good place to sit down and have breakfast or to sit and have lunch. Their various egg dishes are all delicious. I had hoped this would be my next go to place for breakfast but I was sadly disappointed. For a small town restaurant the food quality is pathetic. You could tell the eggs were factory mass produced, the color, taste were all subpar. The same is true with their bacon. The service was ok but the staff was more concerned with catching up with their regulars that several tables were ignored. Do yourself a favor and drive the extra miles to GP and hit the Powder Horn, the food is worth the trip! read more

We stopped in for breakfast while passing through River Valley and enjoyed the excellent service and food at River Valley Restaurant. We ordered the Mt Ashland home fries to share (amazing). The kids got pancakes and we each ordered a few other classic breakfast items. Everything tasted great but what really earned this experience five stars for us was our waitress. Our 3yo son had decided before we went into the restaurant that he wanted gummies. We tried to explain to him several times that we were going to a restaurant and there wouldn't be gummies, but that didn't stop him from trying to order them from the waitress two or three times. The last time he tried when our waitress came to check on us, we started to explain to him again there weren't gummies. The waitress leaned in and whispered to me: "we actually do have gummies in the back, would you like me to bring some out?" My expression was likely something, but I nodded and each of the kids were brought a small cup of gummy bears. It completely made their meal. And ours. read more

Nice enough place. I went here because of the good yelp reviews, but it was not what I expected. Got the biscuits and gravy with eggs. Disappointing. Gravy seemed straight out of a can. Smooth with some pepper added. Not your better known sausage gravy that I assumed it would be. Eggs were scrambled but very rubbery. Edible but I won't return next time I am in town. I got there right as they closed at 3:00. They offered to make cold sandwiches. The sandwiches were absolutely delicious and they gave me lots of extras such as avocado extra tomatoes. I visited this little gem during a business trip. It's right off the highway and super convenient. Looks to be a family owned and operated business. Food was quick and very good I had the River Valley Club Deluxe I believe it was called. Most of all I want to compliment the services and the kindness. The lady who helped me did so with a smile and you could tell loved her customers. Hope to try the beef and barley soup I've seen everyone post here but they didn't have it on my visit sadly. Little white house with a front porch gives the impression of a country kitchen. Stop in but be careful when you walk in the side door. There is a tale smack tab two steps in front of you so be prepared to smile and say hello to whomever is seated there. Family friendly and obviously a local favorite. We stopped in for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised to find a menu filled with classic favorites. Portions are ample and so is the service. Prices are just right for the pocket. The breakfast options in Cave Junction aren't exactly overwhelming. There is Taylor's, which in my opinion is the best breakfast in a 100-mile radius, but one can only eat there so often. There's a bagel places that charges $4 for a bagel with cream cheese and is hardly ever open. And then there's River Valley Restaurant. Being a city dude living rurally for the first time, I was a little nervous about going to a small, local restaurant. The eating area has a very homey feel--there are probably less than 20 tables and they're usually taken. When my partner and I walked in for the first time, we definitely felt people's stares, but not in a bad way; just in a small town way. After we overcame our own feelings of awkwardness, we had a great time. The prices at RVR are what breakfast prices should be. They're more expensive than cooking breakfast at home, but cheaper than most restaurants I've been to. I've been there for breakfast three or four times and lunch once, and am always pleasantly surprised when I get the bill. I've had a different server every time I've been to the restaurant, but each one has been as friendly as the previous. They know the names of all the regulars and take the time to get to know the new folks too. My order has always been correct (they even helped me figure out how exactly I like my eggs cooked) and comes out in a reasonable amount of time. Although this is mainly a breakfast place, I find their lunch food better. Their burgers and tuna melts remind me of New Jersey diner food, which is possibly the greatest compliment a restaurant can get.
