You can't miss this place on route 41 due to the giant stacks of firewood piled in plain site of the road but it's easy to pass by the small driveway, so as soon as you pass the Shell station be prepared to turn right or you'll have to go all the way to the next light which is a mile or so north then have to head south again and then get to the north route again, Or you could pull into The Shanty and have a quick beer and then tackle your route back for the firewood. Anyway the folks here are very personable and we had some fun back and forth banter with my wife and them as they were loading our SUV with firewood. We nearly got a face cord into our car and they charged us for exactly what they loaded. They do have delivery which I may use next time but then I won't have an excuse to go to The Shanty for a cold beer! We bought a mixed hardwood that burned pretty well, there was some hissing from some of the logs indicating they were damp, but for the most part we are satisfied. The logs are small and burn quickly not like the big heavy logs we used in the past from another supplier. Will use again. read more

We've been using River Valley Gardens for our firewood since we moved here four years ago. The first three years, everything was perfect and the price was unbeatable. This year we had a problem and it's why I'm now giving them five stars. Last weekend we had a face of wood delivered to our house. We tried for two nights to get a good fire going to no avail. The wood was wet. We could see water bubbling from the inside as the fire was on it. My husband wanted me to call and complain. I can't handle confrontation. I get nauseous. I wanted him to call and complain. He suggested that he couldn't stop working in order to make a phone call that I could easily do all day long from home. Whatever. So I compromised and called them yesterday explaining my situation without getting angry or complaining. Today they came back and replaced ALL the wood. A company who never makes mistakes is good and imaginary. A company who almost immediately fixes an issue without question is irreplaceable. read more

I have been using River Valley Gardens for firewood for years. Unfortunately this year did not go well. I spent almost $400 for 2 face cords of oak. They delivered and stacked the wood as promised. The wood was wet and would not burn. I called and they told me they would replace the wood. When they came (it took a week) they only brought 1 facecord and this wood will not burn as well. So it looks like I will have to use it next year after it seasons. Time to find a new firewood company. read more

I was in search of a large rough-cut hardwood log for carving. I had passed this place several times and finally decided to give them a call. The owner was very professional and extremely helpful. He told me to come by and get the pick of the pile. They have a variety of well dried hardwoods that made it easy for me to choose. The price i paid for a 400-500 lb log was absolutely unbeatable. I stated i would return with a truck to pick up the wood but was bested by the cheap delivery price quoted. The owner walked me over to his employee to set up a time for the wood to be delivered next day and to my surprise the employee offered to deliver it right away. This delivery was offered and took place after closing time. His employees were very helpful and followed all saftey precautions. He even moved the wood into my garage. This experience was as smooth as it gets. The owner and staff are also very supportive of our service members as I am one. I will be returning very soon to purchase some of thier cherry and oak for smoking and backyard camp fires. So maximum stars for exceptional service. read more
