There was no one in the reception area when we arrived so we were just browsing their pretty inventory. Then finally two older ladies came out of the back area- I announced my presence with a "hello" since I was browsing their aisles of flowers and tropical plants and did not want to startle them. They were both not very friendly and I immediately felt uncomfortable like I was interrupting them. I proceeded to ask her about bushes and one of the women acted like she didn't understand a word that I said while the other one just completely walked away. (I am a GenX Japanese American north side Chicagoan and my partner is a biracial black and white north side Chicagoan as well) she was extremely snotty and rude to me like she didn't understand what I was asking her so I took her outside to speak with my partner because I was already visibly upset-so then I asked her "are you Mary? " she's like "No Mary is inside." So Mary was the other rude lady peeking out the door. I'm like thanks but no thanks. Let's go. I asked my partner in the car if it was just me and he said "no these women are rude." So as a small business minority woman myself-who runs her own small business in the city of Chicago - I WILL NEVER GO BACK there it's was not a pleasant experience shop there at your own risk.

The workers are always helpful and friendly and the lot is well organized. I have good success with everything I get here usually but I have definitely killed a few bell pepper plants in the past which is, to be fair, probably my own fault. Prices are up this year but that's true for everywhere and I didn't find anything to be outrageously expensive. If your looking for some herbs, flowers, or veggies to grow its worth a stop in to look around at their selection, they also have ground cover plants if that's what your in the market for.

I bought 3 variegated leaf new guinea impatients for a large pot. I had to remove 2 because 1 was enough and planted elsewhere. They also have unique plants. See orange new guinea impatient with pinky ruffled edge. It's striking! Unique vegetables as well. They have a black cherry tomato called Midnight Snack. Will get next year if they carry it. Many plants just sticks with a few leaves. I got a 6 pack of hot pink impatient. I waited forever for them to fill in my pot, but they still have very few blooms. Normal impatients bloom like crazy! Summer is almost over. Additionally, while I was shopping, I asked an employee if the had tuberous begonia. She ignored me the first time. When I asked again, she was very snippy as if was was bothering her. Not worth the time it took to drive there. Very disappointed as a friend highly recommended.

Turks is always bustling and I do usually enjoy my experience here. No strawberries and no poblanos... those were all I came for. Also, turks is always a bit more pricey than the other local options so be prepared for that. The service is always friendly and the lot is well organized and easy to maneuver around. They probably have the best flower arrangements and options of all their competitors, so it's a great spot to find something fancy for your yard. I wish they had what I was looking for, I'm sure they're just out for the time being but my garden can't wait forever.
