I used their interactive phone service but was put on hold and finally just hung up. I know from shopping at Milaegers for year that they can really get busy and sometimes it takes a while to have your call answered. No big deal and I was able to find what I was looking for elsewhere. Today, 10/30/25, I received a call from one of the managers at Milaegers stating that she had noticed that I had called their store and that my call had gone unanswered. She asked what I was looking for and did I still need to find what I needed. I explained that I had found what I wanted and thanked her for her call. She did not need to call me, but she though enough about their customers that she took the time to follow up on and unanswered call. This is what I call real service and is just another reason I enjoy shopping at Milaegers.

Rewards system is questionable. While their system is up…read moreand running to accept your credit card, their 'system' is down for customers to apply their rewards to receive a discount from their next purchase. This has been going on for a few weeks They ask you to call to see if the system is up and running. What I'm not appreciating is transparency. If they don't want you taking a discount during the holiday , then state that the reward can be used after the New Year. I really find this very disappointing and unfair to the customer.

Well I tried to buy soil... $42 a yard you would think that I would get pulverized screened…read moresoil.... nope I got weeds, huge rocks and blocks of soil... see the pic... thats what I got... that huge piece of concrete is about 12" x 8"... omg.. thats right .. there was screening or pulverizing... I would go to another place for top soil... now the reason why I gave them a 2 was that I did speak to the manager and she gave me a half off discount on my next yard... but that soil was the same as the original... I know they were short on soil but then charge less and do not say it's pulverized.... thats shameful. !!!

Horrible experience with Breezy Hill. Had a landscaping project done last year by a professional…read morecontractor. Chose Breezy Hill for the perennials due to proximity to my home in Salem Lakes. Spent over $1,000 on a variety of rose bushes, shrubs, etc. Landscapers planted them, installed the weed barrier, and landscaping stones as is customary last July. Everything looked great and I was a happy camper for a few months. 2026 rolls around, and nearly half the perennials that we purchased were completely dead. They did not survive the winter. I took pictures, emailed Pam at Breezy Hill to see what they could do. Here is her response: Hi Mike, Thanks for sending these pictures. As you know we do not warranty cash & carry items and actually never warranted Perennials at all. We are confident they are healthy when they leave our care since we are all gardeners here, but overwintering is our biggest challenge with our very volatile and extreme temperature fluctuations. The way to ensure best results for this is to remove all stone from their vicinity and mulch instead, which moderates and insulates temperature and moisture for our plants, much as would occur in nature with plant debris forming the mulch layer. Stone does the opposite of this causing even worse fluctuations while also cutting off oxygen and sometimes water to the roots. If there is landscape fabric under the stone that should also be removed since that makes even worse conditions for the plants, e.g. no oxygen or water to the roots, sours and compacts the soil. I'm here to help with more suggestions any time today, July 4 until 7:00, July 5 10-4:00, July 6 after about 2:00-7, July 7 9-6. Granted it was 6:15 pm and they are close to closing at 7pm. I really wanted to love this place…read moresince it is close to my home. There was no one in the reception area when we arrived so we were just browsing their pretty inventory. Then finally two older ladies came out of the back area- I announced my presence with a "hello" since I was browsing their aisles of flowers and tropical plants and did not want to startle them. They were both not very friendly and I immediately felt uncomfortable like I was interrupting them. I proceeded to ask her about bushes and one of the women acted like she didn't understand a word that I said while the other one just completely walked away. (I am a GenX Japanese American north side Chicagoan and my partner is a biracial black and white north side Chicagoan as well) she was extremely snotty and rude to me like she didn't understand what I was asking her so I took her outside to speak with my partner because I was already visibly upset-so then I asked her "are you Mary? " she's like "No Mary is inside." So Mary was the other rude lady peeking out the door. I'm like thanks but no thanks. Let's go. I asked my partner in the car if it was just me and he said "no these women are rude." So as a small business minority woman myself-who runs her own small business in the city of Chicago - I WILL NEVER GO BACK there it's was not a pleasant experience shop there at your own risk.

Every year I look forward working on my yard/garden but this year my usual place wasn't operating…read moreat the same capacity. There are plenty of options around but why not try something new? This is my first visit to Mary's and they've got some great flowers here! Lots of options I haven't seen shopping around the last few years at other places. We got some begonias that are stunning and holding up fantastic so far. We picked up a tropical bush as well, which Mary herself did advise me would likely not survive the winter. She did give me some advice on how to winterize it if I want to try and bring it inside, she seems knowledgeable and it's pretty cool that she offers plants like these. I always grab some veggies and herbs as well and she delivered on that with a few different herbs I'm excited to try. Boxwood basil is new to me but that's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for. I do wish she had more variety of veggies available, I might have missed the boat on that. I did get a nice heirloom tomato plant, she had these in a back lot. It's a bit hard to get navigate back there and it's not a flat path so be prepared. To sum up, this is a smaller operation than some local competitors but that plant enthusiast charm goes a long way. I'd definitely recommend it for flowers, they've also got lots of cute outdoor decorations. It's a great spot to find something unique too! It COULD use some layout improvements and I found some things unlabeled as I was perusing. I'd say it's definitely worth checking out for either a seasoned gardener or a first timer!

When it came time to replace the dead evergreen and add more trees, we contacted Swartz Nursery. We picked out our trees and during the install, Scott was very helpful in informing us how to care for the trees. We are so pleased with the results. They are absolutely beautiful, healthy trees. We will slowly be adding more trees every year and I wouldn't choose any other nursery!

There is a huge selection of flowers, shrubs, herbs, everything that you're looking for. We were looking for shrubs to use as a living fence. We went around to several nurseries, Home Depots, and Menards but we ultimately purchased a large order of viburnum from S & S because of their price, the health of their plants, and their one year warranty.
