Today I visited River Rock Oral Surgery to have a wisdom tooth removed. Overall, the staff was extremely pleasant and informative when I called to make the appointment. Scheduling was easy, and they provided a clear initial quote for the procedure, which I appreciated -- especially since I don't have dental insurance. However, I want to share my experience so others know what to expect. When I received the quote, I was told it would be $1,895 but could be up to $700 less. I understood this to mean that the extra charge would only apply if the extraction was more complicated than expected. Unfortunately, what wasn't communicated upfront is that the $700 was actually for an optional PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy. I didn't find this out until I was already in the chair, IV ready, and moments away from the procedure. That's when the doctor came in and pitched the benefits of PRP, saying it could help with healing and pain. He did say it was optional, but it felt more like an upsell -- as if my choice was to "do this or wing it." Given that I had budgeted for the higher end of the quote and didn't want to jeopardize my recovery, I agreed to the PRP. But I told the doctor right then that I felt uncomfortable about how this was presented -- and I still do. For me, this came across as a last-minute sales pitch rather than part of an informed consent process. If I'd known about this add-on ahead of time, I would have had the chance to do my own research and decide without pressure. On the positive side, my recovery has gone very well -- no pain in my mouth and good healing so far. (Day one) I just can't help but feel frustrated and a little sick to my stomach that I may have paid for something I wasn't given the time to properly evaluate. In short: I'm not saying don't go to this surgeon. The care itself was good. But I strongly recommend you ask detailed questions when you get your quote and don't be afraid to push for clear answers about optional procedures and costs. If you have to see an oral Surgeon. This is the Doctor to go to. Great staff, clean office and care was outstanding.

What a great oral Surgeon and staff. My case: I am a 63 year old woman and I had two 3rd molar extractions with one being infected and sideways against my 2nd molar,and it had grown into the jaw bone. It was completely under the gum line. Ugh! This Doctor has an excellent bed side manner and genuinely cares about his patients. He does his best to make sure his patients heal quickly without complications and minimal discomfort. I was very nervous of having complications.. specifically,Nerve damage and infection. I did have a fair share of swelling as expected and due to the decayed infected molar under the gum I presented with infection as it was present prior to the extraction but it was knocked out with Clav/amox and everything resolved. I am 1 month post and no nerve damage is present The outcome so far is excellent. I will update my review if anything changes but I wanted to write this review to help others that are nervous and anxious about an upcoming oral procedure with this doctor. You're in good hands.. There are very few reviews I can write without some criticism. But this is one. River Rock Oral Surgery in Kingman AZ is one place I can heartily recommend (as well as in Bullhead City. Didn't go to that office, but pretty sure it's run as nicely as the Kingman office). The office staff is first rate. I was nervous as all get out, but they had my best interests at heart. And Dr Ryan C. Swigert...can't say enough GREAT about him. Very caring and sweet person. As a surgeon, the man is FIRST CLASS A#1. And I do NOT feel that I got soaked by an overpriced practice. I have been to all 3 offices of River Rock Oral Surgery. Dr Swigert is a kind, companionate dentist. From the beginning of my treatment with him he has been patient in explaining my options. I have had 3 implants placed so far. It involved bone grating and several visits. From his initial evaluation, to review of the CT and subsequent treatment plan, to the actual bone graft and placement of the implant abutments, he has been nothing less than professional and thorough. Having had a painful difficult implant several years ago, this experience is like day and night. His gentle technique has been literally almost pain free. I can't say enough about his treatment. I usually try to give positive reviews although this time I'm not feeling very positive. I hired Dr. Ryan C. Swigert, at River Rock Oral Surgery, to pull all of my teeth and I paid in advance for the anesthesia, pulling each tooth, and smoothing down the bone after the teeth are pulled. I had to pay cash because my insurance at the time didn't cover it ($20,000.00). Everything seemed fine but then afterward nobody called to check on me or schedule an after-visit appointment. Then after the swelling started to go down there were sharply pointed pieces of bone sticking through the flap they pulled over my gums, and shedding splinters. Then after waiting for a couple of months for them to call I called them and went into the office and asked Dr. Ryan C. Swigert to go back in to file the points down. He said that he would do it but I would have to pay extra..... I found out from someone in medical billing that I had already paid to have the points smoothed down and he wanted me to pay for the anesthesia. I'm a retired attorney and I happen to know that if a doctor or dentist makes a mistake with your care, they usually fix it right away at no cost to the patient. After all, if he had smoothed down the points while I was still under anesthesia I wouldn't have to go through it again, also not being able to wear my false teeth and not being able to chew or look decent for the past 4 months during the Holidays! And they don't return my calls or anything. read more

This is the worst place to take anyone to. I took my daughter to get her wisdom teeth out and they changed the price on me 3 times and then I ask for her xrays to take her to another dentist and they can not find her xrays now. But they show they billed my insurance for the xrays. How can you not find them when it was done not even a week ago. The worst place ever, I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I downloaded this app just to say I had the best experience here. All of the staff were so incredibly friendly and made it the most comfortable experience they could. Not to mention Dr. Swigert was so nice and even called to check up on me to see how I was doing a few hours after my surgery. These people made me wait 2 1/2 hours after my scheduled appointment, stating that two emergencies were more important. I'd had a very sore tooth with sinus involvement for several weeks that gave me severe pain every day. I'd already been to another Kingman dentist who had refused to perform an extraction because he claimed my blood pressure was too high to do so safely, at least according to "those in authority" who have assumed dominion over all that happens to our bodies on this Earth. Swigert took the same position as the first dentist, despite the fact that my readings were comfortably within their "policy guidelines" that very morning, that is, before the afternoon-long wait and the aggravating lies that had accompanied it. A meal they finally recommended I go take while waiting had increased my bp readings by about twenty points, which is typical and which probably made the difference. Barring a successful extraction, I do not consider unsolicited prescriptions for some exotic pain killer or for anti-anxiety meds helpful when I still have a very sore tooth causing me severe pain many times per day and have already put up with it for far too long. Swigert offered as an excuse his spotty, misinformed knowledge of hypertension as if he'd endured for long frustrating years the far from predictable condition (instead of myself) and knew as much as MDs about it, most of whom really understand little more than he does. I honestly don't care what some middle of nowhere dentist thinks about the AMA or the national heart association. He's a dentist, NOT a doctor, and he ought to know that's why he can't prescribe anti-hypertensives. The local health professionals here do not seem to realize that one size does NOT fit all, which is why I've been forced by their collective ignorance, arrogance, callous indifference, and unapologetic greed to make my own decisions regarding my hypertension and not have my health utterly ruined by these incompetent people, who want one thing and one thing only -- all your money. Swigert couldn't comprehend how a similar extraction I'd had done two or three years ago was performed w/o a hitch, despite my high blood pressure and possibly without even a bp check. Shocking, I realize, but that dentist had skill and know-how and did his job as required, seeing me the very afternoon I arrived in a Colorado mountain town and performing a nearly painless and successful extraction the next day. Swigert didn't care about that or anything else in my experience, as is typical of far too many Arizonans I've met, who as a rule are about fifty years behind the current understanding in its entirety while thinking of themselves as sophisticated and familiar with the latest. If Einstein rolled through the state, every clueless bonehead would give him a lecture on relativity while talking over anything he had to say on the matter. Swigert doesn't know much about hypertension, that much I could tell. Quite frankly, while pretending he was ready for action if my bp readings miraculously plummeted, he looked tired and didn't want to work hard after 4:30 pm, the real reason for refusing me the service I desperately needed.
