I searched through multiple listings and visited half a dozen locations comparing facilities, price, and schedule before ending up at Kong's in Lorton. Master Kim was super welcoming and the price point is better than anywhere else in the area. No restrictions on the number of days you can train.....after a ten year break, I was too ambitious and tried four days a week until my 40 year old knees said slow down a little ha ha. I've trained now at Kong's for over a year with it becoming a regular part of the family's weekly routine. The atmosphere is disciplined but supportive and encouraging. My oldest daughter started as a white belt a few months after I returned to training and that has been the best part of our experience here. She has earned her green belt and we take classes together as often as possible in the family time slot. My military commitment don't always allow for a lot of quality time with my kids so training with them at Kong's has been amazing. If your looking for a competitive place to train for yourself or to take classes with your kids, I highly recommend Kong's TaeKwonDo.

As instructors you are to ensure the safety of children that are in your care. You failed to do that as mentioned, I saw no activity from the instructors when my son was choking. This happened repeatedly and you should be ashamed of yourselves for calling yourself an instructor. At the start of class, your main concern was to get your liability form signed so you can negligently not take care of those who signed their rights over within your martial school. Animal control should be called for your aggressive dogs that you have open to the public. As you clearly said, "don't get too close" that enough tells you they're not safe to be around the public. The schedule you mentioned is only good for your school as you can maximize profits and not have to entertain different scheduling. So what if I pay the same price for my son attending your school half the time? Right? It's all about money first. My son was not safe and I would never ever not for 1 million years, bring my son back to your school. Your school should be closed to negligence. Parents please be aware and watch these instructors very carefully as I believe their actions speak for themselves. See if they are engaged or they hang out my the clock and focus on a countdown timer. As far as instructions, and from AI, from a child psychologist's view, young kids thrive on clear, consistent guidance but don't always need constant hand-holding. In martial arts, they might need frequent reminders early on to master steps or focus, especially if they're under ten. Structured repetition builds muscle memory, so gentle cues help without overwhelming them. As they grow confidence, ease up to encourage independence. I guess the instructors Ego's are more important than what's good for young children.

Please read the entire contract and ask questions directly to the company over the contract. I relocated from Woodbridge, VA to Upper Marlboro, MD on June 1, 2021, in which my son attending Taekwondo in Woodbridge, VA was a no go. I called on June 8, 2021 to cancel the contract was told by the Accounts Manager that I had to provide documents showing I moved, but the organization would not accept what I offered. I am beyond pissed and want a refund for the months they charged me. A contract is a legally binding document and all terms have to be explained in a thorough manner. The Accounts Manager was also very rude during the initial conversation, but the last conversation We had today, she tried to act like she didn't remember me, despite having a log of our previous conversation. Master Nam is awesome. Our son struggles with paying attention to any 1 action item. When he is…read morefocused, he is on point. The trick is keeping his focus on any one thing at a time. Some of this I attribute to him simply being a precocious 8-year old, and the other is just his lack of attention to any one thing at any one time. When my wife and I decided to put him into Taekwondo, he was only 4 years old. While he ebbs and flows with how he takes in basic movement, form and instructions, there is no doubt that the lessons are working on him overall in a good way. In spirit, in physical fitness, discipline and most importantly, in confidence. He truly has come a long way. Master Nam's approach is well suited to teaching the students at this Dojang and our son has definitely benefited from it. Has our son struggled from time to time? Yes he has. Our son is very expressive and wears his emotions on his sleeve. He gets frustrated easily and will start to cry when he's instructed to do push ups, but he's been better at holding the tears back more recently. When I told him that I had to do pushups when I was in the Army, I told him while it may look like punishment, it was simply to make me refocus my attention. It wasn't personal even though at times it came across to me like it was personal. So he shouldn't take it personally when Master Nam makes him do push ups. The push up is just a direct result to your coming up short in something and rededicates your focus on that one thing so that you do it right the next time. All this to say, when our son messes up a form, or basic movement or he is not paying attention and he's told to do a push up, the act itself isn't what frustrates him. It's that he did something wrong that made the master inform him to do a push up. He does push ups all the time at home so it's not hard for him to do it. This dedication to discipline is to build up confidence. This is important for a youngster growing up into a very unforgiving world. To start these teachings off early will go a long way for our son as he navigates through life. Master Nam is instilling all of these positive qualities into our son and the other students in ways that will pay huge dividends going into life. And along the way, they are learning an incredible skill set. Thank you so very much Master Nam.

They have a separate area for homework and transportation from the area schools. As far as TKD, much of the curriculum is focused on testing for the next color belt. This is where my review gets negative. As long as a student shows up to classes, they will get a belt. We paid $45 every 6 weeks for their promotion test. This is besides the monthly fee. Not every student will acquire the same level of skill, nor effort, but everyone is "encouraged" to take the test. No one "fails" the test. Hence, when the $450 fee for the black belt comes, and you wonder if you're just buying the belt... Be mindful that for a black belt, in other martial art disciplines a student needs many, many more years of experience and a certain level of maturity. Is a 10-yr old a true black belt? Not really. But consider that most TKD academies in the region follow a similar business model. The masters that have served this particular location have changed. Some are more skilled than others, but good and engaging overall. Not every parent can be happy though. I've had parents bring up situations of apathy and/or favoritism several times. Also, except with after-school sutdents (they pay more), if anything comes up, don't expect management communicate much with parents. We hardly received e-mails and then wondered what they just didn't reach out to us. My advice is to shop around and ask other parents.

My daughter has a few school friends who regularly attend the same classes as her, but I have noticed that she has also become friendly with other children which is especially nice to see in this COVID age. The thing I like most is the flexibility of the classes. I had assumed we would have to come a specific set of days every week, but you can choose which days work best for your child. This is especially helpful for those of us with other children or prior engagements, or simply to allow the child the independence to pick when they'd like to come. My daughter started in mid-March and she got her white belt in April. It is now early May and she's gotten two tips on her belt already. These achievements give my daughter a sense of pride and also motivation to keep doing her best! They also offer summer camp, after school care, and always have something special going on (like bring a friend week, mother's appreciation month right now, and father's month coming up in June). Overall I'm really grateful to have my daughter in this academy and look forward to the years to come.
