The house has been owned by the same family for decades, and their care of it shows. The bathrooms are small, but when you consider the rooms were never intended to have them, they did well. There are only 4 rooms, so there's never a crowd. The breakfast was wonderful. Lighter fare, in 2 courses. The first fresh fruit, with a Swedish cream or a fresh lime sorbet. The second was an egg soufflé with fresh vegetables one day, with rolls and apple butter bread. The second, a bread pudding with great sides. Their rates are very comparable to other B&B's and hotels in the area.

We napped in the Garden Room one afternoon while listening to the sounds of the water garden through an open window, we enjoyed the cool breezes and the views off the back deck, we had a complimentary cup of herbal tea with honey each night before bed, and we slept like the dead on the comfortable, luxury sheets each night. The breakfasts were delicious, the views divine, the entire experience was top notch and I can't wait to go back! The hosts were helpful, friendly, and accessible. We planned this trip as our first anniversary weekend to get away from the chaos of everyday life and it was every bit of what we needed. Unlike other B&Bs, Scott and Loren's home offers a secluded and private setting where you can enjoy the grounds without having to tiptoe around other guests or wait for a good spot on the porch to open up. It offers a level of comfort and seclusion not easily found elsewhere. Their property is amazing with gardens throughout and a quietness you cannot find at other B&Bs. They are incredibly welcoming to their home and go out of their way to make you feel appreciated. While we were secluded from civilization, the home itself offered all of the amenities you could ever need. We especially enjoyed exploring the books on the shelves, sitting on the porch, looking at the many species of trees and plant life, and perhaps best of all Scott's French Toast breakfast. I cannot stress enough just how wonderful our stay was and how accommodating they were to our last-minute changes. We are deeply appreciative for their hospitality and every little touch they put in to make our stay a memorable one. We will definitely be back for future stays.

A Disappointment. We've stayed at many bed & breakfasts and…read morethis was the first time we were disappointed with our choice. The pictures on the website were obviously old, probably when they first opened. When we noticed the For-Sale sign at the entrance I started to have my doubts. Apparently, the owners turned their home into the B&B about 15 years ago and may have made some alterations at that time but it can use some current upgrading. Our shower was smaller than an old phone booth and would not be comfortable for anyone bigger than an average teenager. There were rules for using the tub and shower I guess due to plumbing issues and when I went to plug in my phone charger by our bed there was an extension cord with other things plugged in and the lamp flickered. The owners/ innkeepers were too involved in conversations and at times somewhat rude and condescending. Our first morning breakfast with no other guests at the table was good but when I asked for decaf coffee I was looked at as if I was some-kind of an alien and told how people who drink decaf never finish their coffee and don't understand why they drink decaf. Well I have a serious allergy to caffeine but I guess that was irrelevant. Our second day breakfast was also good and thankfully there were other guests which limited the innkeeper's involvement in conversation. It was also the first time we were not given a room key which was strange. The positives are that it was a convenient location close to town and the grounds were nice with a nice porch and yard. Bottom line after reading some of the previous reviews I should have paid more attention to the bad reviews. This is not a place we would return.

Our boutique inn, which is a Virginia Green Lodging inn, offers personalized service and luxurious accommodations and creates a wonderfully inviting alternative to typical hotel lodging. Though most of the furnishings are English or American antiques, there is a compelling mix of periods. Many of the pieces are museum-worthy: An Eighteenth-Century Norwegian upholstered chair and a Nineteenth Century Biedermeier secretary share space with Picasso lithographs and Russian Iconistry. The collection spans centuries and countries of origin yet reflects a consistent refined aesthetic.

The hallways didn't smell of pot smoke (seems to be an ongoing issue at the majority of Courtyards I've stayed in) and our room was clean (no stains on the couch! Normally I don't go near couches in these places), the bed was comfortable and the room temp just fine. They even have a decent (small) gym and a large lobby with plenty of seating and tables should you desire something from the cafe (limited hours of operation so make sure you get your caffeine before 10 am!)
