We found the world's best burgers and onion rings at River City Café at Barefoot landing. The wife and I both got the fantastic Jammin' Jalapeno Bacon Burger. The burger was of good size and topped with jalapeños, hickory smoked bacon, smoked gouda, lettuce, tomato, and the most amazing pepper jelly. I mean who would think to put pepper jelly on a burger, but this not only works, it was also the best burger either of us have had. I ordered my burger with Onion rings, which were Massive in size and clearly fresh (not frozen). I hate to overuse the phrase best ever, but hands down the best onion rings either of us have ever had as well. The wife ordered her burger with Fries. We sat for about 10 minutes before our waitress ever came to the table, but this is suspect of the hostess not letting her know a new table had been sat. Other than the initial wait the service was to par. If you're looking for something other than burgers or chicken sandwiches, this is not a place for you as the menu becomes very limited without those options. The food wasn't cold, but also not as warm as we would have hoped. The Carolina Chili burger lacked flavor, while the Jerkin' Chicken had flavor it was a bit rubbery. The French fries are "hand-cut", but served way too soggy. If was a very weird interaction. Pub bar style atmosphere like a lower end Texas Roadhouse. Some things started off really good like the chicken wing apps and the French fries. I'm gonna preface this review by saying that I would go back here and give River City Cafe another chance. For any management that may read this, I'm reviewing my first impression here and being honest about my experience. With that disclaimer out of the way I was underwhelmed. I came in to get a takeout order to take back to my room. I was offered a seat at the bar and while my server was nice enough she seemed annoyed to be working and never offered her name. I ordered the fork and knife burger because I like sautéed mushrooms and onions. It was supposed to come served on Texas toast and smothered with brown gravy. Had I ordered this and sat down to eat, I would have sent it back and ordered something else. The piece of Texas Toast was thin like it could have just been wonder bread, and when I cut into it, I found it to be a bit soggy from the burger. When I opened my container, I found no gravy was offered or topped on the burger. This made for a dry burger, however it was better after dumping my slaw on top of it (slaw was actually good). Finally the patty itself may have exposed how small it actually was compared to the burgers I saw being delivered to other tables. It was the size of a kids McDonald's patty and I'm not exaggerating. At the End of the Day, I feel like they did not make the best first impression but how many guys can say that about the first time they met their wives. I didn't tell them that ahead of time though so can't truly fault them for it. My brother got the chicken fingers. He said they were quite good. Both orders came with fries and coleslaw. My family and I ate here as a celebration for my uncle as it is his first heavenly birthday with some family that lives here that we never get to see. We tried to continue chatting with our family (as I mentioned we never get to see them so we had a lot to talk about) but we were essentially kicked out. To be more specific we were told there was a 15 top coming in and needed to leave. So we got up and left but as leaving I could not help but notice all the large empty tables we passed that could have been used instead of making my family leave. I would also like to add, it was not like we had been sitting there for 3 hours. We had been sitting at our table for less than 2 hours when this occurred and had only stopped eating around 10 minutes before it occurred. I have been in the service industry for over 5 years, I'm usually very understanding when it comes to servers and restaurants but this was absolutely unacceptable. I'm so beyond mad and cannot believe my family and I were treated this way. If you plan to eat at river city cafe to celebrate anything or just like to talk, I would highly recommend one of the many others in Myrtle beach because this specific one lacks customer service and hospitality. If you're one of the managers or owners of this river city cafe I think you should give your cooks a raise since they are the only good thing about your business and I think your servers should consider applying at dicks. We came here with a group of friends and had a great time! The servers were super attentive and very helpful with recommendations and suggestions! My husband and I are both vegetarians and we were so excited about our burgers because it wasn't another impossible patty or some other frozen patty blob. These tasted fresh and were amazing. The prices were very FAIR for the food, there were 0 complaints from my end and we appreciated the feeling that a lot of love and care was inputted into the menu.
