So I know a bit about plants, flowers, bushes, and landscaping as I have been doing it for over 30 years. When I moved up to the Saratoga Springs area several years ago, I purchased six crabapple and two dogwood trees from Hewitt's on Route 9 in Wilton. My ex-husband and I planted the crabapples along the driveway, and the dogwoods at the side of the house. We did everything you're supposed to do - big holes, compost in with the root ball, watered well - but for some odd reason the trees never made it (like the marriage, but that's another story). It depressed the heck out of me to see these 'sticks' with nary a leaf on them every time I drove down the 300' driveway. When I went to purchase my annuals at Hewitt's a couple weeks ago, I mentioned to one of the cashiers my disappointment in these trees. The cashier told me that Hewitt guarantees all their trees, to take some photos of the trees, and come back and speak with Chris, the manager. I had an early appointment in town this morning and decided to stop by Hewitt's before this popular place got hopping. Chris could not have been more helpful or accommodating. I didn't have the receipts for the trees because I am now divorced and my ex has those records. I showed him the photos of the trees (which may or may not have been necessary), and we picked out eight replacement trees at no charge to me. I tell you the truth, I almost cried. I've been staring at these ugly 'sticks in the ground' for several years, which is depressing. He loaded them in my Hyundai Tucson (who knew they would fit?) along with a gardenia tree, jasmine plant, and clematis that I purchased. I relay this rather winded story because we're always so quick to complain when things go wrong or we're disappointed with a product or service and people don't assume responsibility, Hewitt's is a local business (they have several locations) that guarantees their trees ... and they keep their word even a few years later! Because of Chris' exemplary customer service, Hewitt's will be getting ALL of my business in the future. They have a very extensive selection of healthy trees (including fruit trees, which might be my next purchase), bushes, vines, and perennial and annual plants, including the tropicals that I love (hibiscus bushes and trees, gardenias, jasmine, bananas, and more) at reasonable prices. It is in a beautiful area, with a perfect backdrop for Christmas photos. The family members running the business were very friendly. They had Christmas music playing and gave each of our nieces a Christmas coloring book. They also provided saws. Every tree was beautiful, which made it difficult to choose. In the end, we found the perfect Colorado Blue Spruce that will look great in our living room! We can't wait to decorate it. We will go back next year!

I've been going to the same place…read morefor years and paying $25 for the tree but this year the picking were pretty slim so we took a ride over to Vermont and stopped at Pleasant Valley. All of the trees under 11' were $50 and they were all beautifully shaped. We ended up with an incredibly fragrant Balsam fir. We cut it down and they stopped and picked it up from us with a cart, no dragging the tree through the mud to the car. And an added plus, they wrap the tree so it's easy to get in the car and bring it home. We also picked up some incredibly well priced maple syrup from the farm down the road.

They were extremely polite and actually told us that we could house our mums there until our wedding day. They said that they would take care of the plants without any additional charge which was a relief for us. The price is here also reasonable which was an added plus. The customer service here alone warrants five stars but I can't talk highly enough about their quality. The flowers that they have, as well as the other plants and gourds are incredible. We will continue to shop here in the future and we are excited to hopefully buy our Christmas tree here come winter.

Finally, a young man did come over and ask if we wanted any help. We said we would like a tree, decided to basically take the first one we saw and get out as quickly as possible. The whole experience took about 15 minutes, definitely not the type of heartwarming traditional Christmas experience we were expecting when parroting a local family owned business.
