One of South Jersey''s greatest secrets is that there is a true convenience store providing quality…read moreservice, fresh hot coffee, great sandwiches, and deli meat but their name doesn't start with a W. In fact, Heritages still holds on to that old time solid service of personnel rather than slipping to the use of automation. On this visit I just wanted a "sub" or "hoagie" or "bomber" or whatever other silly name your region of the country calls these multi-level sandwiches filled with meat, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc. etc. on a long roll. The first thing you notice when walking into this Heritages is how brightly lit and clean the store is. You could literally eat off the floor not that I am in the habit of choosing floors for the plating of my meals. What can't be missed are the smiles ... both employees smiling and clearly enjoying each other's company or maybe even enjoying working at Heritages! You have to admit that discovering employees at any establishment you are doing business with who are smiling naturally is a big plus. I checked the board ... didn't have to push any buttons but spoke with the person who would make my sandwich. In fact, that person sliced the meat that would go into my sandwich. AWESOME ... no tech customer care providing fresh food at a 'Convenience Store.' The drool became somewhat embarrassing as I watched her build my hoagie (Ok, today it is my hoagie on most days it would be my sub never would it be a bomber.). The price was right ... the ingredients fresh (the lettuce had some snap to its crispness while the tomato not being the season tasted like something a Florida greenhouse produced but I don't blame Heritages for that.). These folks had created a satisfying meal for me. Now, they also have their own brand of dairy products, which is what they started to be hence Heritages Dairy. Like most 'convenience' stores the grocery items are overpriced but I wasn't here for groceries I was here for a good sandwich and that is what I was served. BRAVO and thanks for the smiles!

With that said, I'm quite impressed with how clean, organized, and well run the store is. I do want to note that I do not think any Convenience Store is a five star choice. That's just me but these stores that have limited items for sale are not gourmet destinations. That being said, I have to admit this was one of the very best convenience store experiences that I have ever had. The staff was ready ... the store was shiny clean ... and bargains were to be had. This store is larger then most Heritage locations but it does offer real deli service versus WAWA's pre-packaging of foods. I saw the woman make my breakfast sandwich and I watched deli meat being sliced the old fashioned way by hand not by factory. I will admit that Heritages are not totally convenient because all of their locations including this one close at 10pm. But if you want a "hoagie" and you are in West Deptford ... this is the Convenience store to get a fresh one made on a great roll. And, after my visit in the middle of the day ... this Heritages proved so popular that a coyote stopped by to check out all of the excitement.

I felt bad for the employees because that is 100% some sort of OSHA violation. As someone with a law background I would be suing for unsafe working conditions. There was no ventilation or any kind of fans being used to defuse the smell. On top of that you have food and beverages out, so now what, I can taste the smell of paint in my food/drink. No one should have to work in those conditions. Construction and such was also going on. I do understand that being open 24/7 you have to make due, but did you hire the lowest bidder for the contract to save a few cents? Are you counting pennies now? Truck drivers come here to rest, refuel, and maybe enjoy a shower and they most certainly couldn't do the last one. I have heard of better places to stop in third world countries and that's saying something. The only positive I have about this stop were the employees I encountered. They could not have been nicer, even in the horrible working environment. Whatever you are paying them, they should be getting hazard pay today from corporate or if this is independently owned, go into your pocket and help them out. Utterly ridiculous what these people are going through today. It's already hot enough out and now you are making them inhale paint fumes. That makes ZERO sense. But way to go to all of the employees and whatever managers are there doing the work, while I am sure some dumb people what a degree thought what a great idea it was to paint in an enclosed space and do construction all at the same time. You are probably making 6 plus figures. Use that knowledge and do better. I am only leaving more then a 1 star review is because of the staff and how incredibly nice they all were. But if I had to leave a star rated review for whoever thought this was a good idea, there would be negative stars.
