Detailed explanation:
I'm not naming any names here but will be filing a complaint with Rite Aid about a recent event. I bought some Ben & Jerry's that was buy one get one free. When we tried to eat it, it seemed freezer burned or something like this. It was disgusting rubbish. It was a few weeks expired when I looked at the nest by date. I brought the container in and showed them that it was expired and that I only bought it within the previous week. The manager present did not apologize for selling us expired ice cream. The manager went to a back room to find the transaction on a computer. 30-45 minutes later, I remain standing and waiting. I tell another employee that I will just return in a day or so.
Fast forward two days when my wife goes to ask about the refund. Still no apology for selling us expired ice cream.
Fast forward about 1.5 weeks, since it is pretty inconvenient for us to have to keep stopping here, I came by at a convenient time for myself. By this point, I don't even care about the money, I would just like an apology for selling me rubbish. I walk in and find the two ladies I spoke with that first day. I tell them I am hear to sort out the refund. The main manager says, "When I told your wife to come back in later, I meant a day later or maybe two...it has been almost two weeks...but don't worry I have what we need." Alas, still no apology but heavy in condescension. Then she comes back out and says, "oh by the way...you were WAY off on the date. Not even close." I had no clue what to say. She says, "oh sure...you got to date wrong....but you just can't admit that you were wrong, just like every man."
Ouch, so instead of apologizing, she accuses me of being a stubborn male. I'm not sure what I could have done to make this combative manager happy, as the only record of my purchase was on my credit card that had the date I shared with her.
Now, we are at the register and she is showing another employee how to process this return. Oh yeah, all this happened in front of someone else, which made me even more embarrassed. This lady legit hurt my feelings and she is a complete stranger. My request was not unreasonable. You folks knowingly sold expired ice cream under the guise of a sale. I wanted my money back and this was our third visit to get it. Back to the register, the manager says, "Even though it is inconvenient for us we will give him the price he paid," whatever that means.
So I have been "inconvenient," "just like every man" which means I am a stubborn male.
Finally, I am admonished by the manager to keep my receipts, reminding me how "generous" she has been to give me my money back for the expired ice cream she sold me....after I had to go back to this place three times just to get this refund. In her favor, she did finally say the word, "sorry," and she followed it with "but the guy that stocks our ice cream is new and he is usually the one that checks the dates." So now she has passed the blame to a distributor...did he set the on sale price of "buy one get one free" or was that Rite Aid? They knew the ice cream was expired and they tried to make some extra money off it. That's what I think.
Here's what I know, they will definitely sell expired ice cream again. The simple fact that she never apologized for selling expired ice cream means she wasn't sorry. And since she shifted the blame to the guy that stocks those freezers, she won't ever have to take the blame for it either. read more
