Ok, I don't like the name particularly. Restaurant at 54. Alright, woah there rein in your steeds…read moreof imagination etc. But sometimes you can forgive a plain name. This place is exciting because it is not a pub but it is offering up modern British cuisine - thank god that we are not giving up on our food just yet and resigning ourselves to copying the best bits of other cultures and countries. Or is it? There is instead a melange (mix) here at 54. For example, you have Onion soup and gruyere glaze to start, very French and an Eaton Mess for dessert. They do everything from lasagne, to kebabs to king prawns. There will be something here for everyone, I promise. Otherwise they serve hot chocolates, soups and sandwiches during the day like at lunch if you fancy sitting down somewhere other than your desk/ you couch. The prices are pretty lovely too. You're looking at about £15. Plus on Wednesdays and Thursdays you might be able to get a complimentary glass of wine. They sometimes have those skinny metal tables and chairs outside, you know if the summer, but don't count on it as its unlikely in bad weather (which is likely).

There is nothing which can be faulted about this restaurant. Dave and Lynne cannot be more welcoming and with their expert knowledge will guide you through the menu and a suitable wine to truly accompany a superb meal. The choice is not as comprehensive as some restaurants but that is not to say it's lacking in choice. Make no mistake, there is something to suit everyone's tastes and what there is has been sourced as locally as possible. This is definitely a place for those who truly enjoy their food and wine in a place where you can relax and enjoy the whole dining experience. Restaurant at 54 deserves to be recognised as one of the area's top dining places, well up there with the best.

At last ... A new flavour cuisine that's acceptable to all curry lovers…read more This used to be a Thai restaurant but has been taken over by a couple who as enthusiastic cooks have devised a menu of fusion Sri Lankan spicing and steak, but also more traditional starters and seafood dishes. So ... The service. Our hostess (with child) with politeness and gentle charm offered to help us with our choice. 'No no no I know what I'm doing' soon became 'err excuse me what does this mean ?' :-) A mixed share starter had 2 succulent lamb chops with a mint and lime coconut milk sauce, patties (deep fried heaven) Bhajjis (crispy and light) prawn (perfectly cooked and sweet) and bread crumb covered rolls (chicken mash potato ginger and garlic) accompanied by chilli coconut sauce and a date and tamarind chutney... At this point my return visit was sealed :-) Nuff said ! Chicken and chick pea curry and Devil chicken with rice and chilli paste came next and resulted in mumbled exclamations like 'mmmmm' ' oh' 'mmmmmf' 'nom non nom' Light and perfectly cooked rice with thinly sliced vegetables, intense chilli paste, and a stylishly reduced sticky sauce covering the chicken pieces amongst red and green peppers is all I can describe as the spices and their preparation whilst being utterly different to the flavourings of Indian/Pakistani restaurants are similar enough to make any curry aficionados visit a pleasure. So before either the personal attentive service is replaced by hustle and bustle of success, or the pressures of competing with a million other restaurants mean this wonderful new starter vanishes into obscurity (I truly hope not) come and visit Ayubowan and meet its chef and owners and enjoy the subtle differences of Sri Lankan food ! "Mmmmmf" 'mmmmnnn' 'chommnn' :-)

Pico Lounge - GF Lounge Breakfast

Pico Lounge is a part of The Loungers chain, this is one of the largest Lounges I've visited…read morelocated at the Howard Town Shopping Park in Glossop, it's located in a small retail park within the town, with a large parking lot which appears to be free to use. The interior and set-up is pretty much the same as every other restaurant within the chain, albeit a little larger, the decor and style with the mismatched furniture and wall art appear to be the same, but the vibes are pretty cool. The staff seemed friendly, although they could have done with more people working the bar to take orders quicker, but I did visit on a busy Saturday and they were trying their best so can't hold this against them too much. There is always the option to order the food at your table using a QR code, but I was unable to do this as I have an allergy and must order at the counter with a manager. The manager who took my order was friendly and was happy to make the changes I wanted to my dish without any trouble. The other members of my party ordered a dessert, and they were charged for a more expensive one than the one they wanted, this was their error however due to having two similar dishes on the menu. They did get the more expensive dessert and enjoyed it. I ordered the GF Lounge Breakfast with the following changes: - Poached Eggs instead of fried - An extra egg in place of the GF roll (I hate seeded bread!) - An extra sausage instead of the bacon My breakfast arrived in good time, again considering I visited outside of the usual breakfast window and how busy they were, was a good factor. My breakfast was hot, including the beans, which I appreciate is difficult when making so many individual items. One of the eggs was a little too firm for me, and the tomato was a little hard, but all in all, I enjoyed my meal. The sausages were good quality, and the hash browns were crispy and it was well-seasoned. It's a good Lounge overall and I would certainly return the next time I'm in Glossop with many good things to write about for sure. 4*

Perhaps avoid if you don't like eating around children! I've been a few times and service can be a bit chaotic, I think they tend to be understaffed, but recently this has improved. I really love the miami brunch, avocado and sweetcorn make it feel more fresh and healthy then the standard greasy breakfast.

Yet it retains its lofty ambitions, sat aperch a hill and surveying the area around. Such a classic Sunday lunch pub and one that people love to discover. Various family and friends have bragged to each other about this place only to find it is not such a secret with locals. This is the kind of place you will take someone to try. They must see it. They shouldn't have to miss out. Bearing all this in mind, it is not perfect. The layout is a little annoying for large parties- no tables will accommodate more than six or seven easily and there simply isn't enough space to be pushing and joining etc. Also, you run the risk on a Sunday of running out of certain meats so either there will be a hefty wait, as on my sister's most recent birthday here, or various diners will eat at different times depending on which meat they want with their Sunday roast. The carvery is good though. An ok amount of choice, but enough to satisfy most eager customers. The air is lively and chatty whilst being relaxed. If it weren't for the points above I'd have given it a 5.
