Okay, it is a bit of a trek to reach, and it is also effectively in the middle of nowhere (though I am sure if you are determined enough you could walk, or at least ride a bike), but for me at least, it was certainly worth it. Okay, the pub itself is your typical country pub, and you can be assured that the publican knows everybody who walks in through the door on a first name basis (except for people like me who trek up from the city just to have a beer). They have a pretty nice beer garden, however it is one of those beer gardens that it basically a converted backyard, complete with two yappy dogs that want to play with you while you are having a beer. This pub certainly has a character of its own, and I know I would be very tempted to stop by here again if I am ever in the area.

The prices were that of a typical pub ($18.50 for a chicken schnitzel, et cetera) and the food was absolutely fantastic. My partner and I both had chicken parmigianas with chips and well, I got vegetables instead of salad and he got salad. My only thing is that it is kinda short-staffed, but honestly, the food was that good, I didn't even really care. I'd go here again, and I'd bring my family too. Thanks for making my 6 month anniversary dinner with my partner a great experience.

Mind you, getting here without a car can be a bit of a pain, but that has more to do with where the train happens to go. Still, it is a really nice pub, and even has some nice beers on tap. They were actually doing it up somewhat when I was here, so I suspect it will look a lot better if I end up coming up this way again sometime.

We weren't seated when we came in but just joined the line to get to the front while I tried to find menus. I wasn't impressed with the menu. I was first going to go for a pizza (quietly thinking to myself that $20 for a pizza is extortionate) I then realised they had in small writing at the bottom a $10!!!!!!!! surcharge for eating in. This is the worst surcharge I've seen anywhere. That's 6 pizzas from dominoes (quality would be different but for the cost of 6 how much better could quality be?) I then realised I couldn't eat the one veggie option so I asked if I could order two starters and still eat the salad bar and after checking that was fine. Food was yummy and salad bar was good except I accidentally ate some meat in potato salad (i don't know why there is meat in potato salad but whatever) Overall, an average meal but I am still so shocked about that pizza surcharge.

Any pub that doesn't succumb to the lure of the pokie machine is going to be a good pub in my books, and it certainly was a good pub. In part it felt like an inner-city pub, yet it still retained that rural feeling about it, probably because there was a building out the back called 'The Barn' that happened to be a function room (and there was also a barbecue under the shelter). Okay, it still seemed to be a place where the locals would sit at the bar chatting with the bartender, but I didn't let that get to me, especially with the lounge area sporting some rather interesting artwork.
