From the start, Dr. Layson showed incredible flexibility in seeing me quickly and took great care in evaluating my condition. What impressed me most was his diligence--he even ordered additional imaging right before surgery to fully understand the extent of my patella fracture. That extra step gave me confidence, and I know it made a difference in the outcome of my surgery. Danielle was consistently attentive, professional, and kind, making the whole process much less stressful. I also want to recognize the Carlsbad Surgery Center, where my procedure took place. Every single person I encountered was warm, informative, and supportive. They made me feel comfortable at each step, explained everything clearly, and followed up with a thoughtful note after my surgery. That personal touch meant a lot during recovery. I'm deeply grateful to Dr. Layson, Danielle, and the entire surgery center team for their expertise and compassion. They turned what could have been a very difficult experience into one where I felt cared for and supported at every step.

Dr Cooperman performed knee surgery on my GP, so it's not only a professional referral, but a personal one. At my first appointment, I was really hoping for a quick fix for my hip issues. I thought I had just done some damage working out and I'm an avid hiker. But it became evident from x-ray and MRI that I was going to need a hip replacement. Dr. Cooperman was patient, educational and understanding of my desire to wait. Several months later, I could tell that my condition was worsening (despite lots of stretching, anti-inflammatory and careful exercise) and and I was ready to schedule. At that appointment another x-ray was done which showed more acute need for hip replacement. Dr. Cooperman was unfailingly kind and patient, never once condescended or told me I should have done it sooner. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has interrupted my surgery but once electives are safe again I know I will be in good hands.

Dr. Brizzie has given me immense pain relief and has significantly improved my quality of life I never thought would be possible. I can do so much more now. I was struggling with this from 2021 until 2023 until I found him that year. The pain after the second Moderna vaccine was unbearable for me. Dr Neville Alleyne has proven himself to be both caring & competent when taking care of his…read morepatients. I saw him a few years ago after a 5 year old fusion done at Scripps LaJolla failed. (He had previously operated on a couple of my friends.) His suggestions were conservative care due to my age. (Mid 50s and 2 fusions already. This fusion would fusion 3 levels to repair the one level that failed.) His concern was that I have a 20 year old fusion that could fail someday since the usual life of a fusion is 10 years. He didn't want to see me with my neck totally fused by my mid 60s. He suggested keeping my eye out for new procedures. He was right. Now there is an injection available to help plump up the disc often saving a person from a fusion. There is a reason that Dr. Alleyne was just one of 50 surgeons appointed to the board of the National Spine Health Foundation in 2022. But no... i had to have those 2 EXPENSIVE MRI tests both with and without contrast. He said it PROVED NO TUMOR but needed the most complex surgery with multiple fusions/cage etc using that Mazor Robot he requires to do surgeries. NOW i wonder if that is due to his ineptitude? But do a YouTube search for Mazor Lumbar Surgery. It is utterly BARBARIC compared to the same surgery for this same set of fusions a few years prior that went PERFECTLY. BUT this man ( i will NEVER refer to him as doctor or surgeon!) PERMANENTLY ENDED LIFE AS I KNEW IT when he butchered me. The complications came INSTANTLY and he tried to have me transferred to a nursing home as i was unable to even stand much less walk. I suppose he had a commission for that as well... I was FORCED to sign myself out of Hospital AMA because he refused to release me! My primary care doctor INSTANTLY began finding errors and problems with this surgery. You see he DID find my tumor i told him was my problem. His own words were " it is the BIGGEST TUMOR i have ever seen in my career, larger than a huge grapefruit". Well his next CRIMINAL NEGLIGENT ACT was going ahead and still doing the NOT NEEDED FUSIONS with that barbaric robot. On my 65 year ild body. FAR too invasive for my age... next criminally negligent act ACCORDING TO HIS OWN HOSPITALS INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY DEPT? They explained it was purely criminal to knowingly close me up with a now FOOTBALL size gaping hole in my lumbar spine/back. It developed a HUGE Seroma. Bloody fluid and guts that could kill me untreated. So the cure? MONTHS of weekly visits back to the Cancer Radiology to have them try injecting PAINFUL BEYOND WORDS CHEMICALS into me trying in vain to close this huge, cavernous s open hole inside me. and let not forget my copay EACH WEEK of over $200.00! After months and nearing financial bankruptcy with ME now suicidal i explained to the hospital to find me another surgeon to FIX this or i would just end this miserable life i now had. It took 2 MOTE surgeries by 2 different Surgeons to fix the hole left inside me... by the way. Alleyne never ONCE followed up or offered ANY help. Oh and the kicker? For pain guess what he did for me? Suggested i take TYLENOL! My primary dr BEGGED me to rightfully sue for Malpractice. But this all drug on too long for me to be within the time frame allowed! TriCity Hospital has just informed me they are REVOKING his surgical privileges and calling it his RETIREMENT due to many failed recent surgeries. His MALPRACTICE lawsuits are now beginning to show up online as well. For God's sake, for YOUR sake, avoid ANY contact with this ender of lives. Because i have now spent my entire life in a wheelchair since his April2014 Butchery of my LIFE that completely died thanks to him. Sold my 4wd truck, my 4 Motorcycled, Surfboards, ocean AND white water Kayaks. And i began a life sitting in this chair since. The ONLY time i have ever left this home interior was to go to monthly Pain Management or Doctor appointments... the nightmare of Opioid Pan Drugs began as my life faded away. EVERYTHING ended for myself and wife the day we met this slick incompetent would be (but never WILL be) any sort of qualified medical professional. All for a BARBARIC version of a surgery i had ALREADY had done perfectly just a few years prior. Lastly. It is the most incompetent office staff ever assembled! If they answer tour call never expect any resolution to your query. If you leave any voice mail? FORGET any sort of response. Run. Just RUN!

His adjustments have helped reduce my pain significantly and improved my mobility more than I expected. I could feel steady progress with each visit. Worst experience! I…read morehad an emergency surgery & was too weak to go home from the hospital 1) I was told Dr. Novac was my doctor while at the facility. Dr. Novac visited me once after I was admitted & barked questions at me. A couple of days later, there was confusion on my new prescriptions & I was concerned about my abdominal surgical site. I requested to talk to him again he refused to meet with me in the 11 days I was there. Husband called facility asking to speak to him & was told it wasn't permitted. (Red Flag) 2) Not once but twice, I had to correct 2 different CNA's? Nurses? about my meds being changed. In fact, I was already given meds that I wasn't supposed to take & I brought it up but was told I was mistaken. The young man who dispensed the meds, double checked & later apologized. The 2nd time it was a nurse, she argued with me, went out & grabbed the blister pack of pills to prove she was right & I had to point the name of meds on package & show her she was calling the meds by the wrong name! That was where the confusion was, both meds started with the same 2 letters. Scary! These are supposed to be professionals. 3) In 11 days, I was moved THREE times to 3 different rooms! I'm supposed to be resting to get stronger to go home. In all fairness, I initially requested to be moved to a quieter spot. The door to the rooms are generally left open & I had a light shining in my eyes all night long plus was in a very noisy busy area & they did move me in a day or 2. I was so grateful. This room was more quiet But every time the bathroom door was opened the stench of MOLD was super strong. I noticed there was a hole in the drywall under the sink & towels wrapped around pipes under the sink. One day, I had to let a cna know there was water on the bathroom floor which was mopped. Safety Issue! A few days later!! I was moved yet again. 3) In each room there are 3 beds. 1 bathroom. WARNING! It is not unusual for your roommate to be a sundowner. Be prepared for screaming and disruptive behavior all night. Nurses also come in the room at all hours to change their diaper and of course the lights go on & disrupt any sleep you might get. They are not quiet, either. I can't begin to tell you how anxious & stressed I became. Even with earplugs lights being shined all hours was so disruptive to sleeping. 4) Physical therapist & occupational therapists were very nice. However, I was super weak, had to use a walker, just had abdominal surgery & after a couple of sessions, I was so sore that I had to take tylenol and place ice on my abdomen for a few hours for 2 days. Knowing this, they continued to nudge me to do the exercises until I mentioned it to the head of the department in passing, then the exercises did become lighter. I was told by both therapists at different times I should have told them I was in pain during the session. But I tried to to tell them the discomfort did not happen during the sessions. Knowing how weak I was plus just having abdominal surgery possibly from the beginning warranted a gentler approach. 5) I had noticed that some "problem patients" would use the call button repeatedly for the nurses with stupid questions, etc. They were eventually ignored. But there is something so disturbing about hearing someone yell "NURSE" sometimes for hours. I was so stressed out. I was determined to be a good patient while here. It was clear to me that this facility was extremely understaffed. But ONE day I really needed to speak to a nurse. ONE DAY out of 11 days I pushed the nurse button only to be told the nurse would be right in. An hour later, I pushed the button & was told the nurse just had her break but would be right in. An hour later I tried again and was told yet another excuse. Nurse never came, I gave up and the next morning she came in to see what i wanted the night before without much interest. Very disappointing & frustrating. 6) Not always, but for the most part the food was less than cafeteria food. Some meals were ok. You fill out a meal form when you get there. I tried cold cereal for breakfast & it upset my stomach. I told 2 different people and also filled out another form but continued to get the food I couldn't eat. Sometimes, my roommate got my food by mistake and I got theirs. That's my experience. I hope it helps someone. In my case I was discharged from the hospital unexpectedly & my husband was contacted by a social worker or insurance agent (?) & was told I was going to La Paloma. This all happened within a couple of hours. Knowing what we know now, check with your insurance & see which facilities are covered. And if possible check the reviews. This was our first experience with a nursing facility and I'm not sure if they are all this bad, but it was a horrible experience.
