I have been to this place a few times since it changed ownership from Genoa. First, the matcha and coffee are both excellent. It's hard to find good coffee in town so this is exciting!
The chocolate croissant was good (the chocolate itself more so than the croissant, which had a strange slightly plastic-like aftertaste), although all the pastries are quite expensive, which may be a deterrent to an area frequented by high school students and families.
The first time, I ordered a grilled cheese, and while it was good, it was extremely garlicky to the point where I couldn't taste the bread or cheese. I know garlic is super common so I can't really complain, but I would've appreciated it being mentioned in the item title or ingredients.
I was unfortunately disappointed by the second sandwich I ordered, as it was very basic and the ingredients, while reasonably fresh and good quality as far as I could tell, weren't very flavorful. I also expected the sandwiches to be warm, and I was not alone in this assumption - a young girl who had been in just before us thought the same thing, and when she returned inside to let them know it wasn't hot, they simply informed her "that's how they come." The kid was visibly disappointed, and I was hoping to witness an offer to warm up the sandwich, or an apology for the misunderstanding, especially since she was out in the cold with her family (politely panhandling for rent). The cafe didn't seem very busy at the time, and you'd think customer satisfaction would be a big priority as they're just starting out, but I know it is difficult to keep everyone happy and it's probably quite stressful opening up a new shop. Hopefully they were kind to the girl & her family if any other interactions occurred!
The atmosphere is nice, with the overall feeling of the space very similar to Genoa, and the plants are a nice touch. I wish them well on their ongoing launch & am looking forward to seeing how it evolves! read more
