We had originally booked the Pictured Rock Cruises until we heard about Riptide Ride and booked this instead. We are so glad we did. Captain Larry was amazing at the helm!! Going around Grand Island and not up the UP coast to see the pictured rocks was awesome. Due to COVID we had assigned seats on the right side. No worries though, all the cool sights Captain Larry made sure you had a good view no matter what side you were on. 4 bald eagles, two lighthouses, 200 ft cliffs, a cove dubbed the amphitheater, some quick left and right spins for some thrills and a few small waterfalls made this the best trip for our family of 4 (girls 11 & 13). We booked a large party of several families hoping for a great morning out on the lake. The overall experience was nothing as described by the other reviewers. We didn't get to see much of anything and had to look over others to catch a glimpse of the shoreline. This was disappointing for our large party, especially the young children. Definately not worth the money. To top it off, the employees seemed put out by having to handle the check in process and answer basic questions. Captain Tim is the best, would trust him with my life. Which we did, as it was windy and wavy on our tour day! We had so much fun, many laughs! You will get wet!! Possibly soaked, but it is worth it! This place is very misleading in there advertising. They do NOT and are NOT allowed to go near Pictured Rocks National lake shore, they only go around Grand Island. When I found this out and tried to get a refund they would not. I was told if anyone came in before launch that wanted TWO tickets I could sell them. Well no one came in and we begged the girl for a refund and told her she was charging my credit card anyway even know we did not go on the ride. An absolute thrill from beginning to end! Tim and his wife own this business and the pride and devotion to their craft and Lake Superior is uncontested. This is perfect for all ages. We got up close to some really amazing sites and even saw a few American Bald Eagles. Plenty of opportunity for pictures and video. If you like speed, this boat is for you! Be warned you may get some spray, so bring a poncho and a jacket to combat the wind. I would definitely pay more money for this tour. This is a great way to see the beautiful Pictured Rocks. My sister and I took our 4 kids ages 4-14 and we all loved it. The boat goes pretty fast and makes some sharp turns which is really fun. The tour goes out in Munising Bay and around Grand Island. We were able to get pretty close to the rocks where we slowed down for photo ops which I appreciated. I'm SO GLAD I didn't reserve spot on one of the other boat tours. I originally intended on kayaking, but the weather was so iffy that day, and I find most boat tours to be incredibly boring. Took my 10 year old son looking for a Pictured Rocks experience more his speed. What a great choice, the ride was the perfect length (about 1 1/2 hours), fast and fun. I was forced to go under a waterfall when the conditions outside were not favorable to being that wet since the temp that day was not that warm. I loved the ride up to that point and thought the captain was joking around about going under the waterfall but boy I was wrong. It was extremely cold and was wet from head to toe. I would certainly recommend this ride for teens and adults. I would have enjoyed it myself had I not been worried about my small children. The G-force during the 360 degree turns were strong enough to whip my small kids around enough to hurt them, despite being strapped in with a lap belt. I held on to my 4 year old the best I could, but I could do nothing for my 6 year old. They were too small to brace their legs on the floor or hold on to the rails. Both were terrified the entire hour and a half. Both were bawling at one point. Even my ten year old had had enough after some pretty bone-crunching wave jumping. This is a great and exciting ride all the way around Grand Island, and includes amazing photo opportunities (Eagles, waterfalls, and beautiful rock structures), information about the area, and three-sixty boat spins. It's great for all ages (above age 3) and the captain is very considerate, warning riders before each spin and checking to make sure everyone is in good condition after each one. The tour is counter-clockwise around the island so be sure to sit on the left side of the boat for the best view. Wow! What an awesome experience and great way to see Pictured Rocks!
