It was our last day in the Pictured Rocks area when I realized we hadn't really gotten a chance to get a really good look at the cliffs and such. Since we'd driven past Riptide Ride a few times, we decided to take a chance and picked up tickets for the family. When it was over, the kids unanimously agreed that it was the best thing we'd done all week. The tour itself was great--we got to circle Grand Island, Captain Tim took us in VERY close to a lot of the caves and the picture opportunities were amazing. I've never seen a bald eagle before, but he spotted one very early in the tour and he took the boat in close for a great view. And the boat ride itself? It was awesome. That jet boat really moves, and Captain Tim seems to know how to squeeze the most fun out of it with the hard turns and stops. He gave plenty of warning to prepare for the turns, it never once felt unsafe, but I've never been on such a thrilling boat ride. It was great. My kids were begging to go again as soon as it ended, and I was tempted... When we hit this area again, this will be a definite must. Highly recommend this tour if you're in the area!! read more

Best decision ever! This ride was a blast! Our group of 9 adults all on vacation, all agreed this was the most fun part of the trip! The guy driving was funny and informative ! Great family business! Highly recommend going! Don't bring little little ones as ai believe ride is 7 and up. They will get jostled a bit! Perfect activity for adults and older teens! We saw amazing sites and 2 bald eagle just sitting even when we got up close! The rock formations and waterfalls were beautiful! Best way to view it all! He got super up close at times being able to touch the waterfall and see more then most do! I cant say enough good things about this activity! If you are anypalce around Munising, DO THIS ACTIVITY! This was an amazing ride. I don't think Riptide Ride gets a lot of attention, given all of the other - more subdued - ways to see the Pictured Rocks. We completely overlooked the Riptide Ride at first and were so glad we got the chance to go aboard! We ended up on Riptide Ride by accident. We had our two kids with us on a trip to the U. P. We knew that none of us wanted to sit through a three hour tour with the blue-hairs and wannabe photogs. If the kids didn't get board and cause trouble on a cruise like that, I would likely have thrown myself overboard. We planned on renting a pontoon boat, but had to abandon that plan when heavy fog rolled in. While we were traveling the area, going for hikes, and trying to come up with Plan C, we saw a billboard for Riptide Ride. Captain Tim and his family have an amazing operation. In what is truly a family business, everybody we interacted with was a part of the family owning the business. Captain Tim took the healm, his daughter was first mate, and his wife ran the store. The ride was AMAZING! The kids LOVED the high speed and the fun maneuvers. The sites were awesome, too! We saw a few bald eagles up close and we even got within touching distance of the rocks and some falls. Most amazing was how personally invested everybody seemed with the ride. There was a lot of fog on our cruise due to bad weather that day. Despite this, Captain Tim gave us a great experience. We still saw a lot and had a fun ride. An hour and a half was the perfect amount of time. I was shocked when we pulled up to the dock and he apologized for the bad weather and even offered partial refunds for those who were bothered by the fog. I am assuming that nobody took him up on the offer as the ride was so great. I would highly recommend this as the BEST way to see Pictured Rocks. read more

We had originally booked the Pictured Rock Cruises until we heard about Riptide Ride and booked this instead. We are so glad we did. Captain Larry was amazing at the helm!! Going around Grand Island and not up the UP coast to see the pictured rocks was awesome. Due to COVID we had assigned seats on the right side. No worries though, all the cool sights Captain Larry made sure you had a good view no matter what side you were on. 4 bald eagles, two lighthouses, 200 ft cliffs, a cove dubbed the amphitheater, some quick left and right spins for some thrills and a few small waterfalls made this the best trip for our family of 4 (girls 11 & 13). We booked a large party of several families hoping for a great morning out on the lake. The overall experience was nothing as described by the other reviewers. We didn't get to see much of anything and had to look over others to catch a glimpse of the shoreline. This was disappointing for our large party, especially the young children. Definately not worth the money. To top it off, the employees seemed put out by having to handle the check in process and answer basic questions. This place is very misleading in there advertising. They do NOT and are NOT allowed to go near Pictured Rocks National lake shore, they only go around Grand Island. When I found this out and tried to get a refund they would not. I was told if anyone came in before launch that wanted TWO tickets I could sell them. Well no one came in and we begged the girl for a refund and told her she was charging my credit card anyway even know we did not go on the ride. What a great time! Captain Tim was professional and great at allowing both sides of the boat to access and approach the shoreline for perfect photo opportunities. An absolute thrill from beginning to end! Tim and his wife own this business and the pride and devotion to their craft and Lake Superior is uncontested. This is perfect for all ages. We got up close to some really amazing sites and even saw a few American Bald Eagles. Plenty of opportunity for pictures and video. If you like speed, this boat is for you! Be warned you may get some spray, so bring a poncho and a jacket to combat the wind. I would definitely pay more money for this tour. This is a great way to see the beautiful Pictured Rocks. My sister and I took our 4 kids ages 4-14 and we all loved it. The boat goes pretty fast and makes some sharp turns which is really fun. The tour goes out in Munising Bay and around Grand Island. We were able to get pretty close to the rocks where we slowed down for photo ops which I appreciated. I'm SO GLAD I didn't reserve spot on one of the other boat tours. I originally intended on kayaking, but the weather was so iffy that day, and I find most boat tours to be incredibly boring. I was forced to go under a waterfall when the conditions outside were not favorable to being that wet since the temp that day was not that warm. I loved the ride up to that point and thought the captain was joking around about going under the waterfall but boy I was wrong. It was extremely cold and was wet from head to toe. Luckily my husband was on the opposite side and was able to hand my our expensive camera otherwise that would have been ruined. Very sad that my experience was ruined by this. read more

I would certainly recommend this ride for teens and adults. I would have enjoyed it myself had I not been worried about my small children. The G-force during the 360 degree turns were strong enough to whip my small kids around enough to hurt them, despite being strapped in with a lap belt. I held on to my 4 year old the best I could, but I could do nothing for my 6 year old. They were too small to brace their legs on the floor or hold on to the rails. Both were terrified the entire hour and a half. Both were bawling at one point. Even my ten year old had had enough after some pretty bone-crunching wave jumping.
