La Cabana del Artista exists in a rarefied world of its own. As I make my way to the restaurant, I motor along sleepy Calle Venustiano Carranza, passing two crumbling cemeteries [prosaically named "Panteon No. 1" and "Panteon No. 2"]. Turn left onto the grandly named but narrow Calle Naciones Unidas and go one block and you are there: A two story house stands proudly at the corner, like a mirage, draped in a luxuriant fuchsia flowering Bougainvillea. A table covered in a colorful fabric from Chiapas [the most remote and southerly Mexican state, from which the owners hail] is placed just outside the entrance door. Walk inside, and you will be gently greeted with refinement by Max and Giovanni, who will then place you into the adept hands of waiters Eduardo or Saul. Immediately you will sense the emotion and love that is La Cabana del Artista. It is a feeling that is ephemeral and undefined, something that cannot be quantified, but you will know you are in a place unlike any other. Max will whisper in your ear about new wines in the cellar that have appeared since your last visit, and the bottles will be ceremoniously presented on the table for your perusal. Eduardo will present a plate of Pasta a la Rueda, scraped from the cheese wheel, or a gleaming salmon with fresh arugula. Ricardo will set up a chair in the corner and begin singing and strumming his guitar. After dinner, Max will create for you his magic with a myriad of coffee drinks that he makes from very special family coffee beans brought from his home in Chiapas. When it is time to leave, Max will be there. You know what you have just experienced is out of the norm. It is not about four walls and waiters and menus. Rather, it is a kind of artistic creation in its own right, for Max is the "Artista" of the "Cabana", in his welcome, in his wine and in his beloved Chiapas coffee. And it is certain that the spirit of La Cabana del Artista will travel with you as you make your way through the busy streets of Tijuana to the Frontera and back to San Diego.

Great atmosphere for any occasion (family romantic etc) my wife enjoyed her omelette I think it should have a little more flavor... my chilaquiles was a bit on the sweet side, it wasn't bad just different from the authentic ones I'm use to... juices are freshly squeezed and coffee is out this world. Overall experience 4.5/5

I really liked the vibe of this place - Italian bistro without being crowded, is a small place but very unique. Love , love the live music Meals we order The Chicken breast in white wine (one of my favorites) rib eye and filet mignon. The dishes were some of the best we ever had while visiting Tijuana. The steaks were cooked perfectly and the waitress made sure the chicken was seasoned just right. The portions are average no side dishes. The service was done very well, and we were not hurried at all. Our Overall, a tremendous experience. Will be back

This place is a hidden jewel and it's a must visit location to have some authentic chapanecan Mexican culinary food. First of all the variety of types of coffees to choose from is a plus. Always make sure too order the tamal "chipilin" as an appetizer to share then order your entree. I ordered the chilaquiles negros and rojos. Enjoy!

A rustic little place off the beaten path. I came across it as I searched online for coffee in Tijuana. I let the server choose my coffee for me and she came back with half a gourd of a delicious and nutty coffee from the Chiapas region of Mexico. I'll be back.

never had a bad meal and to top it off never had bad service. Luckily for me I always get the same server and she is amazing and at this point she knows exactly what my girlfriend and I usually order. They are very friendly and knowledgable on the menu. I try and make it at least once a week when possible, and it's worth the travel. If you do make it to this cool little spot the two items you must order is, cold Tascalate and a Chipilin tamal, you will thank me later.

From their delicious coffees to the decor everything inside this place is amazing. This place is a must when coming to Tijuana, a hidden jewel for sure!

    Delicioso!

I paid about 10% extra compared to what I paid previously for the same variety of items on the menu except that EVERY pasta dish I bought had the quantity of food reduced by approximately 30-40% which was severely disappointing. When I brought this up to their manager and he insisted that it was the usual portion sizes, but I informed him that my wife and I were patrons here for over 4 years to which he finally admitted that they changed their menu and reduced their portion sizes while also increasing the price. As an American, there isn't much reason to come here aside from the pizza (which hasn't been reduced in size yet) which is still a decent value with good ingredients compared to either Vittorio's which is overpriced or Dominos which is poor quality. Although, I can't even recommend the pizza to people who don't eat pork as they had the audacity to try to charge me extra to simply substitute both the bacon and chorizo for just chicken on my pizza which is something they've been able to do for me prior to this visit. I won't be coming here again as I can get all-you-can-eat pasta at Olive Garden in America for the same price it would fill me up here at this restaurant or I could go to Vittorio's for a more authentic and quality experience if I'm willing to overpay. Thanks again for all the years of good service prior to recent times.

They are all over Tj and every time I pass one, I have the urge to stop. I always get the meat lasagne and sangria or red wine. Best sangria btw and I AM not a sangria kinda woman. I have tried the pizza and pastas, all good, but my go to is the lasagne, I am very picky about my Italian food. Love the old Italian restaurant theme and decor, All male waiters (Gotta love that) and always great service. What can I say, Giuseppes is my favorite Italian restaurant when I am in Tj. Haven't tried the one in Rosarito. 5 5

It's located on the 2nd floor of the busy shopping center where they sell homemade spices, candy, fruits, vegetables and food items, similar to a Mexican farmer's market ("Mercado Hidalgo"). It's a 10-15 minute walk from Costco. The food is really good, like fine dining level and I'm assuming locally sourced. I had the grilled vegetable salad and the NY steak, which was a really thick cut steak grilled to perfection. The salad was delicious and fresh, with a mustardy dressing that really accentuated the taste. With the steak, I asked for medium as in previous experiences with steak in Tijuana they tend to cook Med Rare more on the overly rare side, and it came out perfect, with a little pink. It came with a thick mushroom sauce, a pesto sauce on the side, and mashed cauliflower puree. Really one of the best meals I've had in Tijuana and could easily be among the best this year. To find, look for the staircase and climb to the top then turn left and go forward, you'll find the entrance. Highly recommend. I look forward to trying other things on the menu
