If I could give this nail salon negative stars, it would be my pleasure. I sent my wife for an afternoon of pampering and she came home with tears in her eyes. This is a few days after the manicure and pedicure, and she is too kind to post herself. The pictures aren't great, but show scabs from being cut on her toes. She literally came home with bloody cuts from being aggressively filed and trimmed too short. Her nails have scratches in them making the polish look dull. Her nails are bumping and uneven. This wasn't relaxing or pampering, it was rushed and poor quality. Ladies and partners that want to treat your ladies, go somewhere else. Don't let the fancy decor fool you. First time visiting this nail salon, overall ok experience. My daughter (10) got the kids pedicure and I did the spa pedicure. The nail tech doing my toes got to close to my nail bed and I had to pull back tell him it hurt ask him not to trim so close on the other foot. We're new to the area, and I found this nail salon priced more than we are used to in Arizona. But this may just be the area we're in. Kids pedicure was $25 and my basic one was $32. We were seated at the stations about 25 min before any tech actually sat down. We were walks ins however. They were amazing quick to greet me and get me seated. I went on a Labor Day holiday and sorta beat the rush as many people came in after me. I was happy with their social distancing and staff wearing masks, lots of sanitizing products around, and plexiglass between the technicians and clients at the manicure stations! While my pedicure isn't really smooth (I think the woman just didn't seem as confident as she could have with painting, the pedicure treatment was awesome, and my dip turned out perfect! Or Tyra just hates me. I spend almost 2-3 hours here just for my nails to be dipped. My nail artist gets up so many times during a session that it takes longer than it should. I am deeply saddened that someone who has been doing my nails for a year would let me leave her chair looking like this. These are absurd. I drove to another salon from there. Walked in. I am really not one to complain, but this was the worst experience EVER! I took my daughters here to get pedicures and dip for our nails. We had an appointment at 2:00pm, which the receptionist acted like we wouldn't need. We arrived at 1:45 and were seated fairly quickly in a pedi recliner. My daughters started getting their pedicures around 3:30 and mine followed around 4:00! There were many who got up and left stating they were not going to wait any longer! They kept telling us "just a few more minutes, we are short staffed today". Why was I not told this over the phone?!? I would have made our appointment for another day! When they finally got to doing our finger nails the job was very rushed and the lady who was doing my nails kept getting up every couple of minutes to attend to something else. Needless to say, our fingernails look awful! They did do a fairly good job on the pedicures though. After all of this, I was charged over $300 for this awful experience! Second time in, they were busy on a Sunday morning. I asked for a natural spa pedicure and manicure again ... The first time I went it was $60. This time I Got shellac on my toes +15 and then they talked me into getting my nails dipped instead of just a polish. +15 total should have been 90 then, Turned out to be $100 and the pedicure was really sad compared to my first one. I have never posted a review but this needs to be shared. The tech was super rude and made me feel bad for not being able to afford the dip instead of gel. She obviously didn't care and was out of the seat for a solid 20 minutes total. THEN she started talking about my eyebrows and everything wrong with them because She wanted me to get them done by her. I have really thick eyebrows that I love and I was kinda embarrassed. Horrible, cannot recommend! I stopped in to get a manicure, they used high pressure sales tactics to push the dip powder over a gel manicure. I was curious so agreed to try the dip. Supposed to be longer lasting, more durable, etc. Got my cuticles nicked up bad enough to draw blood twice, strike one. Ended up with really thick nails that looked and felt like bad acrylics, strike two. By day 11 over half the nails had lifted badly around the edges and one popped off completely, so not the promised 4 weeks, strike three. Bonus strike four - while there, a UV light for hardening gel polish caught on fire, shooting flames 4-5 feet in the air and setting off the smoke alarms. Thank goodness no one had their hand in it at the time. read more

I went in there by myself to get an acrylic full set. It was pretty dead in there and They didn't really notice when I walked in. After they did notice me, I got a chair right away. While my nails look pretty good the shaping could have been more even. So I got a coffin shape on my nails and they are lopsided. It was pricey so I expected a little better. Also no one talked to me other than to ask what I wanted. I guess she did tell me how she cut herself earlier that day but I didn't even know her name until she wrote it down for me to pay. I'm a pretty bubbly person and the lady made it a little awkward. That being said my nails are pretty good. I think it would have been better if I brought a friend. I've gone here twice in the last month to get shellac for my nails. Both times I had the same lady do my nails. The first time my nails were even and shaped very well and they lasted almost 3 weeks even though she made me bleed while cutting my cuticles. It hurt enough that I physically whole body flinched. Then she proceeded to comment to every coworker about how much I was bleeding. Overall not a terrible experience. I went to get a fresh shellac done two days ago. It wasn't busy (both times I'd made an appointment with my friend) but the same lady was very pushy about picking colors. Then before my friend had even shown up and I'd solidified my color choice, she tells me to come sit by some other lady. I explained that I had a friend coming and would like to sit at a table where we could be next to each other. She said my friend wasn't here yet so she was going just going to start. Not a good start. Then when directing me to move or switch hands she was push my hands away from her unkindly and when I misunderstood where to put them and put them in the soapy water (which was the direction she had nudged them too) she got really irritated with me. After that she shaped my nails and again I some reason had a parade of her coworkers coming over to her and looking at my hands while I was talking to my friend. Well, my friend told me after that one of the guys there had started to touch my hands while I wasn't looking (I thought it was her). Ummm... weird? Then, she gets mad at me and in a rude tone of voice tells me to stop moving my hands because she can't work. (I'm sorry that I laughed a little and shook a bit, but jeez.) after all was said and done I noticed that my right hand (the one that I was supposedly moving) looked amazing and my left hand nails were uneven and super thick in some places. I Henry Home and had to use my file to smooth out some really rough spots and use a clear coat to make them shine because my left hand looked very dull in comparison to my right. I'm sorry but that's a bit ridiculous. Fast forward to today and this happened! (See picture.) the corner pulled up and the whole nail peeled off! And the kicker?? Just moved to area and desperately needed a pedi. Walked in and was able to get right in. My concern at a new nail salon is how rough the service is and service at Rio was gentle and relaxing. Price was consistent with other nail salons I've visited in DSM and nail color choices was extensive. Upgrades were offered but no pressure to do so as others mentioned. I will definitely return. Slight discount if you pay for service with cash and of course tip to be in cash. Appears they have an app for rewards too, which I have not yet checked into but will. read more

I've been here several times and every time they have managed to cut my cuticles (which is never an issue anywhere else). One particular time, when my cuticle wouldn't stop bleeding, my nail tech painted over the open cut, then placed the brush back into the polish. Very unimpressed with Rio. read more

I told them I wanted a basic pedicure however he ended up giving me some expensive one and I was under the impression I was gettin a basic one. He was super pushy about adding services with out sharing added cost upfront. They also charge you to use credit card. My nails look nothing like what I asked and they were closing so I didn't have time to change it. I used to love this place several years ago when I used to get my nails done, but I will never go back. It's absurd they don't accept credit card unless you pay the fee and they over the charge the fee. They charged me 10 dollars to run my card. The IRS should be called because it's clear they are trying to hide their income. They take advantage of the language barrier and way over charge you. I was convinced to do the dip even though I wanted acrylic nails and then was also almost forced to do some ombré design on my nails. The lady who was doing my nails left me for a good amount of time to start someone else's nails and then came back to me just so i could get up and show the other client my nail design and used me as a sales person. I was left with EXTREMELY thick nails that were rushed and felt uncomfortable the whole time. She forgot to mention that the design was $15 extra so i complained and she then also stood over me while I paid to see how I wrote my tip and then stormed off. read more

Loved the experience here!! From the posh looking setting with chandeliers and sparkles to the plush pedicure chairs!! The amount of colors is a bit overwhelming at first but it's so fun to have almost any color imaginable for your choosing!! My friend and I splurged as it was her bridal shower weekend and got their deluxe spa manicure and pedicure!! The sugar scrub, extra lotion massage, and especially the hot stone massage was soooo worth it and we left feeling relaxed and pampered!! The technicians are all super friendly and great at their jobs! You can tell they all take pride in where they work!! As well as the place is spotless!! From the tools to the footpaths to the floors! The manager/owner is super sweet!! She made sure we were taken care of!! They are a bit pricy but you definitely get what you pay for in service as well as the quality of products!!! I've been to Rio Nails twice in the past two months. It is a very clean kept up salon. Everyone is very friendly and kind. It seems to be a pretty upscale nail salon and it's really big! Lots of space to accommodate large groups. I think it's a nice gesture to offer drinks such as water, wine and soda pop. The second time I went I took my 10 year old daughter and it was about 45 min to closing. I appreciated that they didn't rush us and continued to take care of us long after they closed. I've been to other salons in Ankeny that rush you thought at the end of the night. This location also has a wide selection of colors and a lot of different offerings such as hot stone massages for hands and feet, lotion and more to pamper their customers. You can have a simple manicure, acrylic nails or what I like is the option to have SNS nails. It's a newer product that helps grow your nails and makes them much stronger. Expect to pay more here than you would at other places. My best advice is to just try it once to see if it's a place for you! read more

My daughter is celebrating her sixteenth birthday tomorrow and wanted nothing more than to have her nails done before her big day. We walked into Rio Nail Bar and waited a short time for our turn. They asked my daughter if she wanted shellac on her nails. My daughter explained that each time she has shellac that it would peel off. The gentleman that was going to do her nails continued to argue. Next thing we know, numerous employees were talking about her and staring at her. My daughter immediately became uncomfortable and asked to leave. On our way out, not one employee, including the owner, stopped to make things right. My friend and I planned to get a pedicure, we ended up bringing our girls with us (6,6,8). We were greeted promptly and asked to sign in. We asked if they had enough time to just paint the girls' nails and toes and they said yes. The technician asked the girls what color they wanted and were whisked away to a chair to get their nails done. I asked for shellac for my toes knowing it would cost a little extra. My friend was rushed back while I ran to the bathroom so I met her after picking out my color. After we were finished they asked how many girls I was paying for and I said 2, I was handed a card that said 30 on it so I assumed it was $15/per girl to have her nails and toes painted. She then handed me my card which said $65 + 15 for shellac. I went to pay and the guy at the register said I would save $7 if I used the atm so I withdrew money from the atm and paid for our services. Which were still $110 (no $7 savings). I also tipped both technicians. My friend handed her card over and she paid and tipped as well. As we were getting in the car 4 people came running out yelling at us that we didn't pay. My friend went back inside and they told her she didn't pay enough. Her pedicure was 45 + 15 for shellac, her card said 60 + 15. She thought she paid 60 and 15 for her daughter. They said no it's $15 for nails and $15 for toes so a total of $30/per girl to have their nails painted. She said they are shellac. No one ever asked if they should use shellac and $30/per girl is a bit high when their nails are so little. They proceeded to yell at my friend saying we didn't pay and ended up having to pay even more. This was not only embarrassing but completely uncalled for. No where are prices listed and no one consulted us about shellac being used. They were pushy and overcharged us. Never again will we be back. read more

When I recently got a pedicure at Rio Nail Bar I realized I got fungus on my toenails when I removed the polish. My daughter got a pedicure at the same time and when she removed her polish she also found fungus on her toenails. They must not sterilize their instruments properly. Neither of us had a pedicure at any other place so must have come from Rio Nail Bar. I recommend no one go here. read more
