Belt Promotion for the kids.
Denise S.

Definitely will recommend, I have had my oldest son there for 2 years and he loves it, my youngest has been there for a year and they both have learn new techniques, and discipline. The teachers work well with the students and take their time to teach them so they are able to learn. Great place for kids and adults as well.

Getting tossed for belt promotion.

My son…read moreenjoyed the classes, but they closed the place for a couple months due to low attendance/ sickness and promised free months at the end of the contract. Not only did they not honor the two free months, she additionally would not stop charging me for months after the contract expired. I had to literally close that bank account to stop her from charging me. I paid an additional 6 months, talked with her multiple times. If you go here, they will never stop charging your card. Don't do it!!!!

So, we walked in here to discuss the UBC program. Upon our arrival, we were directed to small…read moreoffice to talk to the "manager." We met with a very young girl who didn't bother to introduce her self or stop chomping on her veggie dinner when we entered. Her first question was, "Have you ever exercised?" I was immediately turned off. What does that mean? I know I'm slightly overweight, but have I ever exercised? In my life? That day? What does that mean? It felt awfully judgemental in the way it was delivered. After clarifying that she was asking if we ever participated in an "exercise program" (again, EVER?), we moved on to discussing the UBC program. I told her I was emailing someone there by the name Lilia. She said that was her. I was like, ok, so you knew we were coming? She said she never saw any of the emails, never heard of me, and her sister sometimes uses her email address to correspond with potential customers, signing as her. WTF? Why? Bad business, if you ask me. Now, I must have missed something on their website, because from what I could see from their schedule, UBC was M, W, F. Come to find out, it's every day. Every day. Who has time for that, I wonder? I sure don't. When she saw our confusion and hesitation, rather than encourage us to sign up & give them our money, she went on and on about how we really should be dedicated to making a life change and dedicated to our bodies. But it wasn't encouraging. It was a little judgemental, again. As if we walked in the door for shits & giggles rather than to get in shape. Sorry if we were totally thrown by the idea of having a very rigid, daily workout routine when we have lives to tend to outside the gym. She then went on and on (still with veggies in mouth), goggling over Shoney Carter and how he is part of their team. The gushing was a bit overwhelming. I have to say, though, he was really the only one in the whole place who seemed remotely friendly. She continued to say she would be teaching some of the mandatory kickboxing courses for the UBC challenge. Um, no. Overall, we were both completely turned off to this place. I might suggest to the owners (who I believe are this girl's parents) to maybe have someone else deal with potential customers. We were ready to drop a total of $700 right then and there to sign up and possibly more in the future for kickboxing, but now we won't be back. Remember, remember, remember...first impressions are everything!

Everyone here is friendly, approachable, and welcoming. I honestly thought joining a Muay Thai gym would be intimidating, but it's been the exact opposite. The owners, coaches, staff, and members have created an environment where beginners and experienced athletes alike feel comfortable and supported. The academy emphasizes a respectful, inclusive community and welcomes people of all skill levels. One of my favorite features is the weight room, which is a great bonus alongside the training. The facility is well maintained, and I've heard they are constantly making improvements and upgrades to keep the academy growing. If you've ever been curious about Muay Thai but felt nervous about trying it, don't be. Take advantage of their free trial class and see for yourself. Chances are you'll get hooked just like I did. The combination of authentic training, great people, and a strong community makes this place something special.

Sir (Michael Sanchez) is super knowledgeable and passionate about teaching Taekwondo to others. He wants you to improve and is willing to go above and beyond to help you reach your goals. This is a small school where students and their families become your Taekwondo family. You will quickly be accepted into this family and will be held accountable for attending class, which I believe shows this school's family atmosphere. Each time I arrived, I was happily greeted by all the students (especially the younger kids) and their parents. I think the younger kids viewed me like an older sister, which was awesome. There aren't complicated membership packages or different clubs depending on your belt level. Sir charges a super affordable monthly rate for all students; you can cancel whenever you want. Ultimate Kicks TKD focuses on Olympic Style Taekwondo; we spar in almost every class. When we aren't sparring, we are learning valuable combinations to use when sparring. Each class is a solid workout; I am always drenched in sweat after an hour of working out. Students learn the Taegeuk forms as color belts, and then move on to the black belt forms series once they graduate to black belt. This is a quality TKD school and I highly recommend it.

After about a year, I started to look for other schools due to scheduling (I couldn't make it to as many classes as I wanted to). I'll never forget the first time I walked into Carlson Gracie HQ - Master Carlson Gracie Jr. himself signed me up. He was very warm and welcoming, and continues to be to this day (to all of his students). Master Gracie's level of instruction and attention to detail is top notch as many other reviews have noted. On the days where Master Gracie is not teaching, Master Andre Madiz runs the BJJ classes and also does an amazing job. It's a win-win situation. The facility is incredible. It's super clean and roomy. There is enough mat space to have a BJJ class AND Muay Thai class going at the same time. It's also air-conditioned which is such a bonus here in Chicago. Lastly, there's something to be said about the culture at Carlson Gracie HQ. I look forward to my BJJ days because I know I will be challenged mentally and physically. I know I will gain something from each class. But equally as important, I look forward to spending time with my training partners and instructors. This gym has such good vibes, is super welcoming, and It really does feel like an extension of my family. Oss!

Everyone working out is there for the same reason as you - they're cool, funny and just as motivating as the 606Team. There's no time to be intimidated -- seriously, no one is looking at you -- they're working too hard to notice. Yet Alex watches to make sure you have correct form and encourages you from one station to the next with great music too (even if you hate burpees! Ugh!!!). The schedule is fit for everyone's schedules... I personally love the 530a class - yes I said 530a. Get up work out, shower, then head to work out. Sometimes I workout in the evenings as well.
