We contacted Lula's two months in advance for our SAT afternoon get together. Lori went above and beyond to work with the various food allergies (NO GARLIC!) and create (and modify several times as people canceled or RSVPd yes at the last moment) a marvelous repast that brought smiles back to the day. Food: Inventive flavors and textures that mingled for a delightful array to please all taste buds ages 6-72! Presentation A+. Adapted the display and serving utensils to the limited kitchen island with creativity and aplomb. Customer Service: A++. Lori was also grieving a loss and never skipped a beat to make sure we were taken care of with a smile. Timeliness of delivery/set up: Perfectly timed. Efficient and detailed. Favorite Item on your Menu: Childrens: Mac & Cheese Adults: Lobster Bisque Highly Recommend Lula's! Wish we lived closer.

While traveling in northern Kentucky, he stumbled upon one of these places, The Farmstand Market & Cafe. Farmstand offers comfort food with a farm-to-table focus served in a cozy space with a bar and attached market. We started with the Goetta Hanky Panky Dip. This was made with cheesy goetta, bagel chips, pumpernickel bread, and light rye served in a cast iron skillet. The dip had a good sausage flavor with salt and some light spice while being cheesy, creamy, and full of flavor. The bagel chips were very crispy but were not served warm. The pumpernickel and rye were dry. Each complimented the dip, adding texture to the bite. My wife had the Reuben Sandwich. This sandwich came with sliced corned beef, homemade Thousand Island, pickled pig sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese on light rye with bacon ranch pasta salad. The pasta salad was cooked spot on while also being creamy. The bacon added crunch and saltiness to the salad. The rye had a great toast, and the Thousand Island was tangy and creamy. The pastrami was dry but had a good salty flavor. The sauerkraut was crunchy and had a good sour flavor cutting through the salty meat and the sweet dressing. The cheese was gooey and nutty and added flavor to each bite. I sampled the French dip sandwich and Mulligatawny soup. This was prepared with a sliced top round with provolone on a French roll. The soup was prepared with rice, chicken, carrots, onions, celery, lentils and spices. The chicken was very tender, the rice was cooked well, and the vegetables added texture to the rice. The soup was flavorful, had a wonderful aroma, and had a good salt content. The top round was thin and offered good flavor and chew. The roll was fresh and had a good chew paired with the ooey and gooey cheese with an excellent buttery flavor. The au jus had good flavor but was slightly salty, which overpowered it. Farmstand offers grilled cheeses, hot sandwiches, burgers, salads, appetizers, soups and main entrees. They also serve beer and have a full bar. The servers were pleasant and knowledgeable. The Fat Man says that The Farmstand Market & Cafe is Fat Man Approved with 1 chin.

For me the brisket was too well cooked and left dry. The sides were all delicious to include the collards, hushpuppies and potato salad. The sweet tea was spot on for southern flair as were the sauces. Being from NC originally I am particularly fond of a vinegar based sauce and City BBQ delivered. They also had a spicy sweet sauce that was more spicy than usual and for me that was great. So I would indeed recommend city bbq and glad we stopped in while visiting The Creation Museum and Ark coming out from California, where the taxes are high, the weather isn't as good as they say, the food may be better for you, but you only live once,... and yes it's still the land of fruits and nuts and not the type you eat! Ha ... who am I kidding I gotta get back to the south where the food is delicious, the people are friendly and the women are far more attractive.

The hush puppies and corn pudding are probably my favorite sides. And you can't go wrong with the brisket. Whether you have a big appetite or just want a little bit of something, they've got you covered. Don't forget to try the yummy barbecue sauces. And if you aren't too full, they have a wonderful peach cobbler most of the year, but right now they have a pretty amazing apple cobbler. Definitely a laid-back family friendly atmosphere. The fact that they serve real butter is a major plus! And if you can't decide on just one meat, you can always choose a combination of things depending on which meal you go with.

So either it's just not popular for lunch or it was just an off day. Our group ordered and we were relieved as 4 more patrons walked in... But even during our stay, no more people came in. Well... Our group ate our words and stuffed our faces with some really good barbecue. We all mostly got sandwiches but these sandwiches were huge honking sandwiches. I think our waitress said it was half a pound. I ordered the brisket sandwich and macaroni and cheese. The mac and cheese was creamy and warm. I was hoping for a sharper bite of cheese flavor but it was still good nonetheless. The brisket sandwich was really really good. It wasn't sliced brisket but was more "pulled" consistency, like pulled pork. It was moist and tender (not dry at all). The sauce was perfectly sweet and complimented the smoky, rich brisket. My colleagues couldn't finish theirs but one ordered the chicken sandwich and another a pork. All of them were pulled consistency and had excellent flavor of their respective meat (chicken and pork) but I preferred the brisket. Do yourself a favor if your craving barbecue and come to Smokin' This and That!

Overall atmosphere is a bit over the top. Pros: The ribs were meaty, the pork sandwich was piled high. Cons: The coleslaw was mushy and tasteless, the Mac and cheese was inedible, 2 different beers we tried were flat, we did not like the BBQ sauce.
