(I put "subpar" in quotes because many of the picked-out items look good to me (and sometimes end up in a discount box).) I can trust that everything that is available for me to purchase is high-quality. At a grocery store, I would typically pick through items, but I never have to do that at Fruit World. In addition to produce, there is a thoughtful curation of artisanal products from BC (e.g., mustards, jams, breads, beauty products). I love asking the owners about the artisans they have discovered. The customer service is phenomenal. The dedication and love that go into Fruit World are evident in the smiles and customer service! Two boxes of Paul Friday peaches were disastrous, two boxes for $30. only fit for pig feed. Difficult to peel, mealy, coarse, mushy. Don't think they were Paul Friday peaches but maybe nectarines or some other kind of peach that were over ripe. We will never stop at Burke's again. Canning is too hard work, and at those prices we expect good quality fruiot.

We did our own picking of fruits, which were peaches and golden plums. Flowers, pumpkins and pears can also be picked up. The market itself has a full variety of BC fruits and vegetables, along with products made locally. Paynter's market is one of MANY orchards, farms and markets in the Okanagan valley which sells produce!! The ambiance is very nice and warm. It's nice to go to an orchard and pick your own fruits and vegetables, which can of course be eaten fresh, but used for other prepared dishes and preserves. Service at Paynter's is very professional and friendly, and very knowledgeable of local produce and items.

The young man that helped us at the counter was courteous and informed us of the soups that were available that day. Borscht I think might be a staple here, and the other offering was Mulligatawny, which we have made at home. Our soup and sandwiches ordered with the choice of back, or side bacon, we went to the bistro area to await our lunch. Prior to stepping away however our bacon was cut fresh from the side. Who does that? Needless to say our sandwiches and soup were delicious, and from the looks of it we weren't the only ones that have discovered this gem. Another redo while in Kelowna or Vernon?
