I was driving down Forest Avenue at dinnertime, and I saw a big sign that said "Colombian food!" I love Colombian food, so I stopped. Parking can be tricky, I parked halfway down the side street in front of the city park. The place was clean and everybody was friendly. I liked the atmosphere of the restaurant. It kind of reminded me of a Cantina. Definitely a Latin vibe. The menu was on an iPad, and it was in Spanish, but just by knowing a few words and by the pictures, I knew what I wanted to order. I could've also used the Google translator on my phone, if I wanted to. I ordered the bandeja mixta. Grilled steak, grilled chicken, sausage, blood sausage, rice, beans and sofrito covered potatoes. The food came quickly, and it was delicious. Both the steak and the chicken were tender and had so much flavor. I loved the taste of the Sofrito covered potatoes. The potatoes were just the right texture, and the Sofrito was creamy and delicious. A little bit of the rice, I mixed in with the beans, And it made for a wonderful rice and beans dish. It was definitely a lot of food. I made it through the chicken, steak, the potatoes, and a little bit of rice and beans, and I was stuffed. I took the rest home for later, and it all reheated very well. The sausage was delicious, especially the blood sausage. Yes, it's an acquired taste but I absolutely love blood sausage. The yuca and potatoes had a lot of flavor and stood out from the rest of the dish. Other parts of the dish were good, but it would be great with some seasoning. I had the bistec a caballo and it was super delicious. Staff was super accommodating, our server was super friendly and hospitable. She started us with drinks, we ordered a pitcher of sangria which for two people maybe was a bit much lol but the sangria was smooth but after the 3 glass you def start to feel the buzz. Def get the sangria! Then we ordered the plantain chips with the avocado dip As entrees I ordered the paisano platter which comes with steak , rice, beans, fried potato, half a plantain, pork skin. Def recommend it all! I don't even eat beans but those beans were delicious. My husband ordered Steak with Criollo Sauce. Which came with steak, rice beans plátano, something fried that resembles a potato but we're not sure but it was delicious. Our daughter shared our food and it was def enough. She's two and enjoyed everything as well. On our way home she was singing and dancing so that's how you know she had a full belly haha. Horrible food poisoning the next day which is still lingering in our systems. My daughter was vomiting at 1-2 in the morning while we were sleeping. Thank god she didn't choke on her own vomit. She continuously vomited from 2-6 in the morning. We still haven't been able to eat normally since that day. Everything makes us sick. Bread is constantly stale and empanadas taste old. I went the next day to talk to the owner, she wasn't there, so I left a message with the manager. He said she will give me a call to talk to me. Never received a call back. My SO has recently moved to SI. I need breakfast...not just any breakfast but a rice & beans/eggs/maduros breakfast. This will be our go to breakfast place. I ordered the huevos revueltos and the SO ordered the desayuno montañero. As soon as our plates came out..I exclaimed, "the eggs are perfect! No brown at all!!!" I can't eat eggs with any hint of brown in them. I asked for hot sauce for my scrambled eggs... didn't even need it. The eggs were perfectly scrambled. We ordered the food, and honestly I don't understand how they are still open, they brought food out and shocking to see that the carne molida was still frozen LA CARNE ESTABA FRIZADA! Chunks of ice all over the meat, we sent it back and it seemed like they popped it in the microwave and brought it back out, because it was watery and still cold. I struggled with this rating because the food itself was incredible!!!! Packed with so much flavor. I had empanadas de carne (beef) and they werent too bad. My friend had cheese ones and they were super greasy. Their tostones were amazing. She had fish, rice, and salad. I had beef stew and rice with beans. The food was honestly incredible. If you ask for water, they give you a bottle of water which costs 1.60. Cost overall- this place is really affordable, very cheap. Also, it is a very nice setting they decorated well. Why three stars than!? MY FRIEND FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HER LIFE GOT FOOD POISONING. She was throwing up among other things within an hour after we ate for the next 24 hours. She never gets sick off of food, so this was a shock. Even though they were empty the servers were pretty bad, slow is not the word. Walking into this restaurant, there are flags in the ceiling and some ethnic artwork on the walls. The bakery section of the restaurant displayed some nice traditional Columbian bread and buns. We came here last minute with 25 of my friends on Sunday afternoon and the staff was quite accommodating. They had another party of 20 as well but didn't seem frazzled with another large group. Many of my friends ordered the Bandeja Paisa which is a very popular traditional Columbian dish that everyone orders. A few of us also got the Carne a la Plancha con Camerones which was also quite good. Empanadas were massive and filling. All in all pretty good food and the service was even better.
