Yeah, maybe my prior review was a bit like Paul Giamatti in the early part of Holdovers, whereas usually I go for a more nuanced crankiness like Giamatti in Sideways. I don't know if I condone all the bitterness but don't worry, I won't be a posting a video about how I'm resigning due to all of the of dysfunction in Washington. The Bazaar isn't a marquee destination, but the Atlantic Ocean is. I believe I got the mahi mahi tacos from Shanty's in September. One of the better options here is La Cevicheria, where you can get great ceviche in a pure-play formulation or in a combo. The list of vendors and hours of operation should only be taken as a rough guideline. My favorite spot on the peninsula is Tacoway Beach but the Bazaar is fine for quick eats so you can get back to your summer festivities (or the Q35 bus). read more

I love the beach. I've always loved the beach. And I still love the beach since I had kids, but now it involves carrying a lot more stuff. The Riis Park Beach Bazaar is a savior. It means I don't have to carry lunch with me, because I can come over here and get fish tacos and burgers and chicken fingers and fries to stuff in my kids' little faces so they can go back to playing in the sand and the waves and leave me alone. And when those little monsters get to be too much, I can go get a margarita. Or a beer. Or a spritz. Or all three. Also, there's bathrooms, and they are really in pretty decent shape for a public beach bathroom. Basically, this bazaar makes this my favorite beach in NYC to go to all summer, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. read more

I have been coming to Riis beach for nearly 9 yrs and have seen the glow up. From food vendors, boardwalk shopping, live music and an all around great place to be for the summer. Things have changed since new management took over for the 2022 season - all of this is gone, sadly. Cuisine by Claudette, Rockaway Clam bar, alcoholic beverages, great burger joint, hammocks and the coconut stand are all gone. The beach and overall atmosphere just doesn't feel like that magical place I fell in love with yrs ago. I hung out for maybe and hr and left- not my typical beach day for sure. Parking has also increased from $10-$20 dollars As it stands, I won't be making many return visits to Riis Hoping for change read more

The Bazaar is a little cornucopia of New Yawk style food. A wide range of above average fast food fare. There's Bolivian Llama Party that has eliote, nachos & different types of sandwiches. One standout was the Chicken Verde chicken sandwich with tender marinaded Pacena beer chicken, bacon, chicharron bits and a green quilquina sauce. Ed and Bevs serve Coney Island style hotdogs on a Martin Bun. There are corn, beef and vegan dogs. Fries come au natural or cheesy or chili style. I tried the vegan with BBQ sauce, onions and pickles for topping. The dog was good and the fries were crispy. I just wish the food was a little warmer. The lunch costs $15. Fletcher's Bklyn BBQ is here as well for the die hard brisket, chicken and pork lover. There is a clam bar that offers Lobster Roll($22),clam sliders and fried clam strips. Ample Hills is also here for the Bklyn diehard gotta have unique ice cream flavors. The bar serves everything from Margaritas to Coronas. It's a clean environment with picnic tables that are surprisingly comfy. The servers look like school kids but are cool and friendly. It's kinda cool to eat on the beach and hear the best of Disney as you munch( " You got a friend in me" to " Let it go") There also food trucks that serve Italian sausage and food tents offering sweets and alcohol. Pretty solid 5-8 food options for a secluded beach. They offered tacos and ceviches burgers hot dogs empanadas and nachos. The ceviche was toppp notch! They have a rotating cadre of vendors so it changes, not sure how often though. They also sell drinks you can take on the beach at one of the vendors. They've really done a great job of turning Riis Park into a destination. If you're sick of the crowded and still somewhat toxic beaches of Coney Island, Riis Park is just forty minutes away by car (or Beach Bus!). I've been to several iterations of the BK Night Bazaar, and the Riis Park one is a fresh take, which is completely different from everything else. I don't understand why all these negative reviews expected it to be the same type of dance party. It's on the friggin beach. The main focus is on the food, with some live DJ sets. But of course, it's on the beach, so you're free to come and go or do whatever in the sun. In terms of food vendors, they have a decent selection. There's Fletcher's for BBQ and Ample Hills for ice cream, both repping Gowanus (and I guess Prospect Heights). There's Wild Feast with the seafood tacos and the separate oyster/clam stand. There's Brooklyn Star with their event-only menu (delicious chicken waffle cones!). And there was Court Street Grocers in a completely separate area. Through Living Social, we bought food and drink tickets. It was $19 for $10 worth of food and $16 worth of beer or wine. There was also the option of a beach chair rental. Not a bad deal at all. The only thing that sucked was you couldn't use the drink tickets for mixed drinks (they had this Earl grey and gin slushy which was pretty tasty). In terms of the food vendors, Brooklyn Star has the best deal with $13 fried duck wings (you get 10 of them!). I've also had their chicken and waffle cone before at Roberta's block party and can tell you that it's also a solid choice. Tried the nachos and pork belly from Wild Feast, as well as the raw oysters and truffle oysters. Both very good, and fresh. They had some dessert and non-alcoholic drinks available, which you could make alcoholic at the drink station. There were also some local jewelry vendors and a sunglasses truck too. All in all, it was a great way to spend a Saturday and would definitely recommend making the trip out! read more

First time at Jacob Riis Beach ever. I usually go for Long Island beaches. We had some fries from Bolivian Llama Party, even though the menu reads Cochala, and some ribs and wings from another vendor. The fries was AH-MAZING, especially with the cilantro sauce aka the green sauce. SOOOO GOOOOD!!! My friend got the taco which looks amazing too. Came here on a weekday so obviously it wasn't crowded even though it was a weather perfect day. I can see how busy it gets on weekends. Not sure I would be as satisfied as I was when I have to go on line with 500 other people... But good place to chill with friends! read more

For the last three years, Riis has managed to reignite the beach going experience in the Rockaways. With the new NYC Ferry and charter bus combo, getting to Riis has never been easier. It was such a pain previously getting there from the city, my beach time was usually limited to 1-2 trips a summer. I've already been out three times in three weeks, and this bazaar is usually where I land. Tons of awesome food, drinks, and entertainment dot the promenade, and it's usually pretty easy to snag a picnic table on the boardwalk. The proximity to Fort Tilden beach is also clutch, as it's one of the nicer areas of the shore to hang. read more

I hit up Court Street Grocers and the main bar, both were reasonably priced. $8 margs, $6 beers and $3 sodas (not overpriced like that Times article suggested). My sando was $7 with $4 fries. Awesome beach, always clean. I believe the food stands rotate and I remember the food being much better when I was a regular here last year. Maybe just an off day, not sure. I watched the frozen food being prepared and it was just not worth it. Took 40 mins for a burger, chicken fingers and fries from Ed & Bev's. The razz frozen margaritas and froźe from the bar area were delicious, very strong and not SO sweet. Phone service is terrible on the beach, they should look into some free wifi. read more

the Riis Park Beach Bazaar is an interesting facet of the "new" Rockaway Beach. it caters to a younger, hipper demographic with broader tastes in food and more disposable income. and as much as I like to rip on these kids - honestly, the new food options are pretty interesting and worth checking out. they can be a bit costly, and many are cash-only, but there are ATMs. there's BBQ and ice cream stands, but also Bolivian, Middle Eastern, Mexican, and other dining options. btw, the Bolivian stand? bangin' quinoa nachos; splurge on the extra $3 for a heaping pile of pulled pork thrown on top. plenty of places to get booze too! seems like they rotate stands, so check the website. live music, plenty of tables (with umbrellas) to enjoy your food and adult beverages. I liked that the various food stands/trucks are spread throughout so you can walk up and down the boardwalk sampling various things. a few shops/vendors were there too, but mostly food. they even run the beach sports/equipment shack now, where you can rent umbrellas, chairs, bikes, and more on an hourly basis. sometimes change ain't so bad. read more

Jacob Riis Beach is a great beach to go to, if not a bit of a haul for me. (Well, Inwood is a ways from the shores of Queens, haha.) However, having the Bazaar in place gave me some incentive. At least I knew I could make a fun afternoon out of it. The beach itself, I discovered, is relatively easy to reach (I was in a car last time, so it didn't matter!); just take the 2 to the last stop, then hop on the Q35 bus in front of Target on Flatbush Avenue. The bus will drop you right off at the beach! However, upon arrival two small random signs with arrows pointing west didn't really give the clearest directions, surprisingly. The Bazaar is reasonable jaunt west from the famous Art Deco bathhouse. The Bazaar starts with Court Street Grocers; it's in its own kiosk leading up to the full Bazaar area. Upon arrival...it's jam packed! Food vendors, craft vendors, a stage, and picnic tables were all crammed into a pretty small area. I'll admit, on a sunny Sunday when I was looking for some calm, the last thing I wanted to hear was some whiny band with bad vocals and brash guitars, but it was literally unavoidable. I was much happier when they went off stage and some quieter ambient music came on over the speakers. The beau and I hit up Fletcher's to split some wings and a brisket sandwich. The wings were tasty, but we were both left a little underwhelmed by the brisket sandwich, as it was a little too sweet and buttery for our mutual liking. (And the beau is Jewish, so boy knows his brisket. Ha!) We went to the general bar area to score a Downeast Cider and a frozen raspberry margarita; it's nice to drink by the ocean, I must say! After we were finished with the beach for the day, we cooled off with some ice cream and sorbet from Ample Hills, because you really can't go wrong with them. Salted Crack Caramel and Lemon Sky cooled us off in a most lovely way! Overall, I think the Bazaar was a much welcomed addition for Jacob Riis Beach. I'd prefer if the music stage was moved away from the main dining area, and the entire area was a little claustrophobia-inducing for my liking. Heh. But! The Riis Park Bazaar food vendors by Bay 9 (flagpole) in the old howard Johnsons building is up 5 inch step. Wheelchair ADA violation. It requires multiple ramps as each food vendor's long lines requires multiple entries to get to the multiple eateries. Additionally the side entrances which formerly provided access are now blocked by Fletchers bbq pits and the other by band gear and amplifier wires. This "bazaar" (an offshoot of the now closed Brooklyn Night Bazaar) is clearly still finding its bearings. If you can call it that. It's nothing like the Brooklyn Night Bazaar, but that's fine truth be told. I mean who wants to feel like they're trapped in a dungeon full of hipsters, sweat, and fried food while at the beach?? Right. No one. But still, I wished this "bazaar" was giving me more. Jacob Riis is impossible to get to, especially when the 1-2-3 trains are sporadic or down. We didn't specifically come for the "bazaar" but it could be a such a nice reward for trekking 3 hours to the sun and sand if it could just get itself together!! (And yes I will keep parenthesizing for emphasis that this is NOT a bazaar) My friends and I actually walked past the the RPBB TWICE.... TWICE! It didn't even register to us that the 5 food stands, sad looking DJ with no one dancing, and cheap clothing vendor peddling tacky "Do The Rockaway" tanks could be the "bazaar." We were hoping/praying/assuming that this would be a Smorgasburg-type setup with ample food offerings and sprawling room to sit with our beers. Its in its infancy sure, but it doesn't feel at all like anyone is actually organizing anything special. The food vendors are good though the variety is small (Ample Hills only serving up about 6-8 of its flavors mind you) but lines are messy and everything feels disorganized back there between ordering and picking-up. Being at the beach should not induce stress. The DJs got better throughout the afternoon, spinning danceable and enjoyable tunes, but hardly anyone was dancing. The small area set aside for dancing is kind of the only open space to walk from the boardwalk to the food vendor lines, so I it's an awkward tango for anyone actually trying to get their groove on. The clothing vendors (tacky t-shirt guy and a vintage tent).... well I'm not sure what they're doing there. Clearly no one is trying on black high waisted jeans in 92 degree heat. Purposeless. So don't go for the "bazaar" (OBVIOUSLY you go for the beach!!!) but be thankful something is there to at least give you interesting snack and beverage choices. There are many lifeguards and the sea waves are quite low (as of August). The beach is wide and allows room for everyone. So even some music work and not disturbing. There are basketball courts, football etc. and there are volleyball tournaments for the season teams. Many parking. The entrance to the parking costs $ 10. read more

We did not come during the summer but in mid October during cold windy weather. They had the roll down door open but closed it when we asked. That makes it more smoky inside but they won't survive there in winter with the door open. The food was really great. I had swordfish gyro and my hubby had fish and chips and they were both delicious. They have a limited alcohol menu. They take credit cards and they have an ATM. The worst part of the experience is trying to find where it is inside the park. No signs to guide you while you navigate through the vast parking lot. But once you find it, it's all good. It's really nice to see Riis Beach bustling again. The massive parking lot harks back to a bygone era. The Beach Bazaar has brought it foward to the here and now. Beach goers will now see a variety of quality food stands and vendors. Longing for BBQ but don't have access to a grill? I can vouch for tasty ribs (2 big meaty ones for $8) or pulled pork on a Martin's sandwich roll with cole slaw at Fletcher's BBQ. It's not cheap but you're also not messing around with the sauce, the coals, cookin or clean up! read more

Very pleasantly surprised by the amount of vegan options and the selection in general at the bazaar. Many different food choices, booze, and some cute vintage type clothing options. Never been to the Brooklyn Night Bazaar, so I don't have any basis for comparison. This bazaar is small but has a nice selection of different food vendors, a couple pop-up shops, and a stage with live DJ sets. There's a medium-size seating area with tables and umbrellas. In general, it's a pretty nice set up. I was able to partake of a few things. I had an order of nachos with pork belly from Cochala, which were actually very decent and a good-sized portion of pork belly. HOWEVER - I noticed that my portion of nachos was served in the regular size bowl, while everyone who ordered after me was given a large size bowl. Umm, WHAT THE HELL? I'm guessing that while they were making my order, they realized how difficult it was to cram nachos in the smaller bowl and wised up after that. Good for everyone else, but thanks a lot for screwing me. Other than that, tried Brooklyn Star's fried duck wings, which were yummy (and a good deal!) and Wild Feast's raw and truffle oysters which were delicious and fun to watch them shuck. If you do the truffle oysters, they use a small propane torch to char them. read more

Definitely my preferred NYC beach to go to. Though there is a lot more people here than last year, it's still much less crowded than the other "scene-y"beaches, quieter (even with the live music), and a lot cleaner. I'd even describe this beach as "clean". $20 for a large froze (frozen rose/vodka/grapefruit juice). Rent beach umbrellas for $15, beach chairs for $10. I wish they had a wooden pathway or something into the beach---that sand is scorching! You probably won't get phone service on the beach (but why are you on your phone anyway? you're at the beach.) read more

First off, if you are expecting anything like Brooklyn Night Bazaar you will be greatly disappointed. I was imagining all of the good that BKNB had to offer, only at the beach. How great would that be? Well, sadly, Riis Park Beach Bazaar is a pretty big flop in comparison. To begin, it is a huge pain to get there. If you want to take public transportation, it will take you over an hour with about 3 or 4 transfers both on subway, shuttle, and bus. Then a 10 minute walk to get to the area. Not ideal. A cab will be about $30 to get there, and good luck getting a cab or an Uber on the way back. We tried and failed. Sure, there are cheap shuttles available but then you're on the shuttle's time and not your own. Not to mention, the day of the event I went to, the set times for the bands weren't even posted til around 10am and then changed once an hour up until the moment the first band started playing. No one knew when to show up so why would I take shuttle to risk being super early or have to leave early? I got there at 1pm... bands didn't start til about 3pm. So I had to kill time somehow. At BKNB this isn't a problem since there's a huge fleatique, games, and tons of food trucks. At Riis there are 4 food stations that serve excellent food and there's a bar... which is cool but they're all cash only and the ATMs were both down. The flea market area had like 3 vendors... pretty sad. Overall it cost a lot of time and money to see 1 hours worth of music I wanted to see. If they had those passes they have listed on their website it may have been a little more worth it. read more

Have you ever been refused service because the employees already did the cash register before closing and they don't want to do it again? Well that was the case here and not just a little before closing time but 45 minutes in advance. When I was turned down and realized they were still "open" I assured them I would pay by card. Only then I was served. While the bazaar was new service and cuisine were Good. A few years down the road it is like they are doing a favor to you, like it is a school's cafeteria and they just throw food at customers because they are in a beach and there is no other option in sight. Don't let it fall. The site has potential. read more

I guess it's nice having more food options at the beach but the lines are long and the food is expensive. The sound quality of the music is terrible so it's not worth going for that. The promoters did a good job with PR (most likely they are the ones writing the positive reviews here) so now Riis, which used to be low key, is a nightmare. Traffic is completely backed up going to and leaving the beach at all hours during the weekend, there's no good time to go. The lines for the bathrooms are always long. There's not much in the way of vendors selling handmade items. I think Brooklyn Night Bazaar needs a new venue; hopefully they'll be gone by next summer. read more

Just visited Wildfeast and Riis Point Bar at Riis Park Beach and I would highly recommend. For apps we had shark dumplings and the fish spring rolls - delicious. The Muddy Blarey's were wonderful and spicy! Everything was great and the atmosphere was very relaxed with the ocean for a backdrop! Luke was our very pleasant waiter.
