Came here for a Mitski concert on a chilly and rainy Tuesday. It's right next to the Vessel in…read moreHudson Yard. The building is beautiful. The concert hall has an area in the back with seat. After standing for a few hours, I really regretted not getting a ticketed seat for myself. So in the future, I'm glad that I have that option. Once you enter The Shed, you take the escalator upstairs to get to the concert hall. At the end of the concert, the doors open and lead you out right next to The Vessel so I thought that was a nice visual perk at the end of the concert. I hope I get a chance to come back and get to walk around the place and see a little bit more of it.

Located in Hudson Yards, it's near the Vessel and other attractions unique to this developed area. Now showing--This World of Tomorrow with Tom Hanks. Theater review: seating was 3 escalator flights up where most seats were good ones. Comfortable folding style chairs with the theater exhibiting good lighting and audio. There was a mobile bar during intermission that offered wine, water and soda for purchase. I didn't see any merchandise for sale. Production review: When I learned Tom Hanks would be performing Off Broadway in "This World of Tomorrow", I was eager to get tickets. Although the production is Off Broadway, the prices were definitely Broadway and no surprise there with headliner Tom Hanks--one of my top favorite actors of all time--in the starring role. The play takes place in the year 2089 and is all about time travel with Hanks' character--Bert--traveling back to 1939 during New York's World Fair. Without giving anything away, the storyline explores themes on falling in love, technology and what makes life meaningful. We really enjoyed the production which runs through December 21. Overall, it received positive reviews. Some were mixed and in my opinion, I thought the play should have been shaved down by 20 -30 minutes (it was 2 hours + 15 min with intermission). As a Tom Hanks fan, it was truly a delightful treat on a holiday weekend.

I visited Scandinavia House with my mom last weekend when we were in the neighborhood. I had just…read morereturned from a trip to Sweden and was curious about Scandinavia House. I enjoyed my visit, but I think it's important to note that this is less a museum than a cultural center. So it has a great cafe (Bjork Cafe & Bistro), a great gift shop (I picked up a modern take on the Dala horse), and a small gallery space (when we visited, the exhibit was "Nordic Echoes - Tradition in Contemporary Art"), which is free to visit. But it also hosts events - concerts, lectures, workshops, etc. So if you're looking for a quick visit, stop by for a quick visit to the gallery, the gift shop, and the cafe for drink, snack, or meal. But if you're interested in Scandinavian culture, check out this website for interesting events to attend!

Walking in, I must've looked visibly confused because the woman at the window called me over to describe the venue. I ended up perusing the first floor with its Nordic goods and picked up some Swedish candy, a few cookies and a macchiato for o go. There is a sit down cafe with Scandinavian fare, and art and movies to explore. Well worth a visit if you'd like something unique!

I love this entire area and the museum is a gem. I think that they have some permenant exhibits and then rotate other items out, not really sure. But while we were there we saw some "sacred letters" and some other I guess what you would call modern artifacts? The entire staff was friendly and knowledgable and we must have come at a great time of the day becuase even though it seemed like the streets were bustling, the museum was not too crowded. Definately a great place to check out for Jewish history.

Visited this museum as part of my quest to see every museum in NYC and maybe write a book about it…read more Still visiting museums, no book as of yet. One of the benefits of visiting lots of museums is that you develop a nice little routine. Some steps necessary, others mere symptoms of OCD. No need to delve into the OCD here but I will share a few of the more useful steps. 1. My most importan tip, VISIT the website of the museum, close to the time and day of your trip. In this case - http://www.yumuseum.org. This will help you to avoid awkward situations like standing helplessly outside of the closed museum and watching all the pretty people inside drinking wine and having fun for a PRIVATE event. It will also remind you of important nuggets like when the museum offers free or discounted admission. Yeshiva University Museum happens to free on Mondays. 2. Stalk the museum on social media (Twitter @yumuseum, Instagram @yumuseum, FB https://www.facebook.com/YeshivaUniversityMuseum) This will give you a sense of the more popular and selfie worthy exhibits to either prioritize or avoid based on your preferences. The museum was cool, quiet and virtually empty when I visited, leaving me free to peruse the gorgeous photos of the highly-lauded Borscht Belt exhibit, at my leisure. 3. Ask the museum staff for their recommendations. Even with all my research, I didn't realize that the building for the Yeshiva University Museum (The Center for Jewish History) actually housed four additional partner institutions, the American Jewish Historical Society, the American Sephardi Federation, the Leo Baeck Institute, the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research. And while the Yeshiva University Museum gallery was the only exhibit actually open at the time of my visit, the helpful front desk staff gave me the inside scoop on an upcoming event where I could be one of the pretty people on the inside and not on the outside, staring in.
