The Angel I saw the afternoon after the first night was in a chair by the window on her phone when I visited so that was a bummer, we had asked the Angels to sit next to the bed and talk to my Grandma, brush her hair, read to her, and sing to her. So that was disappointing. Unfortunately, my Grandma died the very next day so we did not complain since it was not an ongoing issue. Our experience with Lorien Harmony Hall was very cold and corporate. The executive team lacked…read moreempathy and compassion for our father who was in critical need of assisted living support. In August, we expressed interest in Lorien Harmony Hall for our father, who really liked the place when we toured. In October, Lorien's Executive Director, Victoria Rosier, decided to deny my father's admission based on an arbitrary clinical assessment that he needed sub-acute rehab first. They did not acknowledge current medical records, or clinical staff attempts to work with Harmony Hall for direct admission. The appropriate action would have been a peer-to-peer clinical discussion to clarify any questions. However, as the clinical case worker put it "they just don't want to take him". Our family invested $4500 in the community fee, had countless emails with Lorien over the course of two months only to be denied by email for an acute incident. When I told the Executive Director, Victoria Rosier, how disappointing this was, she said she was sorry we felt this way and our $4500 check was waiting at the concierge's desk. The entire experience was devastating and left us and our loved ones without planned support. While I believe the sales director, Chelsea, tried really hard to advocate for our family, I do not believe she has the support of her leadership team or the freedom to make executive decisions. She often had to get confirmation from her Executive Director, Victoria Rosier, to finalize any agreements. My experience with Victoria was not pleasant, she was often rigid and lacked the compassion expected of a healthcare executive. She also did not show the ability to be strategic to achieve a common goal, which was helping our father find as safe and welcoming home. My only advice to anyone is if you are looking for a compassionate team that will work to serve your family's needs, look somewhere else.

This review is for Lorien Mt. Airy AND Lorien Encore in Turf Valley. My 93 yr. old mother was…read morerecently at Encore for rehab after two weeks on life support in the ICU due to RSV in addition to COPD. It was not a hopeful situation. Miraculously, she showed signs of improvement and was eventually discharged to Lorien Mt. Airy (due to bed availability). She was there for two weeks before we could have her transferred to Encore which is much closer to our home. Mt. Airy was fine, but not what we had hoped. The staff was attentive and very kind, but the conditions were old and crowded. My mother had to share an extremely small room which made it difficult to move around in and to have company. The hallways were littered with equipment and additional rehab supplies. It was no fault of the rehab facility; they seemed to be short on storage areas. When a room finally opened up at Encore we were thrilled. It was day and night. The staff was extremely attentive to her needs, the facility was full of sunshine and spotless and the staff genuinely seemed to love their jobs. I appreciated the fact that everyone wore a mask, even those working at the front desk. My mother's rehab was slower than we had hoped, but it all takes time. My mother went from not being able to move her leg while being in bed, to walking out of there and resuming her former lifestyle (with the help of nightly oxygen) and is now living independently in her apartment at Heartlands Senior Living. The staff at Encore were always there to answer our many questions and would reach out whenever there was a change in status. I was there daily to visit my mother and although she wanted to go home from Day 1, she was sad to say good-bye when the time came. I can't thank the staff at Encore enough for taking such good care of our mother. God forbid that we will have a repeat situation, but if it were the case, Encore would be our first stop!
