Top quality care! Experienced, skilled, compassionate caregivers and their rates are more affordable than the other agencies in town.

We paid $670 Up front for this care. We traveled out of state and from hundreds of miles away got the phone call from home instead saying that the care giver had car trouble and would not be coming. The receptionist was rude and had an attitude. She'd tried other care givers but no one wanted to work on Halloween. Not only did they not show up for services already paid for, but suggested that we should get a friend to look in on her. The next morning she fell, injuring herself, friends had to take care of mom. We get another call from home instead saying, our care giver is sick...not sure if we can come out today either...but you'll be home anyway so it won't matter, right? (this was before 9am and we were scheduled to be home by midnight.) As it turned out, they found someone that day. Upon our return, I called and was told, " I'm so sorry, I've worked for this company for 12 years and this is never happened. Our staff did violate company policy, unfortunately you were just an unlucky family." I requested that the owner be notified so this wouldn't happen again to someone else. I asked for a refund for the day they didn't show up and was told of course. When I checked the mail, did I get a refund, no, I got a bill for $400+. When I called again, no pretense of being nice this time, I was briskly told that they hadn't applied my payment yet. I still don't have a refund. The owner never called to apologize. Needless to say, I would never use or recommend Home Instead again. Beware, you could be the next unfortunate family.

The company, however, has terrible protocols and doesn't pay people enough and even though I knew and my paid caregiver knew he was dying in the last week I was left largely on my own unless I actually called for help. In other words, they weren't there when I needed them the most. Other problems: 1. Large turnover because they aren't paying their people enough in spite of the fact that they were charging the federal government over $5000 a month for 4-5 nursing visits each month. 2. No one ever gave me the book about "what to expect" during death. 3. CNAs and Nurses kept expecting me to know what to do next. One CNA made fun of me because I'd never put on a diaper. 4. On a desperate weekend when my spouse was pouring excrement from his poor old body I put in a desperate phone call and was TRANSFERRED TO A PORTLAND NUMBER -- there was nobody in the office here. Overall -- most of the individuals I worked with were caring in themselves, but the protocols they were following sucked and THEY LEFT ME ON MY OWN JUST WHEN I NEEDED THE MOST CARE. I cannot recommend the company.

I've worked hand in hand with this agency for over 11 years. They always rose to the challenge and ALWAYS took care of the patients as well as the providers. They especially went out of their way to recognize our Veterans. BUT - THINGS CHANGE - They were bought out by a huge national corporation last fall. The company is all about MONEY and NOT the Patients. They still have a few of the awesome folks working there, but since the buyout, a huge percentage of the employees and management left. To fill those management positions, corporate put folks in that quite frankly, are in over their heads. Never have I had to practically BEG for services and supplies for a Hospice Patient and actually end up paying out of my pocket to provide that patient with what they need, all while hearing from Heart n' Home corporate heads about the $$$$$. Then, to top it off, to be accused of being "needy" (wanted one additional day per week, for shower assistance) by the supervising RN? Not to mention the Executive Director was very condescending and arrogant to not only myself, but to the family of a patient? To witness the GOOD STAFF that brought supplies, get reamed out afterwards, by their Executive Director, for doing the right thing? Despite all this, I was still willing to work with them, no matter how CHEAP they were becoming. HOWEVER - the FINAL STRAW with me, was NO RECOGNITION OR RESPECT FOR A VIET NAM COMBAT VET........shameful and disgusting!!!!! It's obvious to me, this company is all about corporate earnings/profits and NOT about the patients or people working for them. Sad Day, Indeed...

They seem not to care about their patients at all anymore. They don't return calls and the front desk and medical assistance blamed it on being short staffed. The medical assistance made me feel like it's my fault they are not doing their job. The office staff need to be retrained on customer service. Heidi Holmes was wonderful to me while I was there, but the disorganization, no call backs, no prescription being given to my daughter correctly and after months her face a complete breakout mess I am switching clinics. Sorry Heidi but my daughters face is a mess, and I have been calling you for days with no call back on what's happening with her treatment plan and then to be treated like crap by your staff is unacceptable to me. Thanks for the many year's you guys were a great Dermatology to go too. I am sorry I am leaving your clinic, and I hope one day you can get your clinic back to where it once was. Michalyn Morris

We suspected bacterial…read moreear infection and I was on day 4 of prescribed augmenten from an MD I saw through telemedicine. I came to this UC because pain was getting worse and ear was draining while I was visiting family in the area and I wanted someone to visually see it in case it wasn't bacterial. My first mistake was picking this establishment without reading the reviews. Staff was professional enough but rushed and appeared understaffed. The male medical assistant became oddly snarky after I revealed I work in dermatology, which was quite awkward. The NP I saw later looked at my ear for maybe five seconds and said there was no evidence of a bacterial infection and I should stop the antibiotics. They said the MD I saw virtually was likely wrong about it being bacterial since they didn't see me in-person. After peeking at my nose and noticing it was draining (I have allergies in Central Oregon) they said all my pain must be due to congestion and to do anti-congestive meds OTC. Sounds reasonable enough. I have a lot of faith in medicinal professionals, so I tried their treatment for the next 24-48 hours. Unfortunately I ended up needing to be driven to the ER a couple days later because the pain in my ear went from painful to agony and it was draining even more pus with some blood. Long story short I needed to be admitted for mastoiditis (seen on CT scan) and had to go on multiple antibiotics and steroids. ER naturally did a culture of the external ear canal too, which grew out a heavy growth of pseudomonas aeruginosa (aka bacteria). My eardrum ended up rupturing from the infection which was extremely painful and may have damaged my hearing (although I haven't seen ENT yet to confirm). Overall, I'm very disappointed with the care I received here. I'd like to assume they were doing their best and I know misdiagnoses happen to even the best of providers. But I can't help but feel that if I had seen someone less rushed, more empathetic, and better trained I would have gotten what the original provider I saw thought was an infection confirmed and received earlier treatment. Maybe then I could have avoided an expensive ER visit and weeks of pain. But who knows. The $300 out-of-pocket cost for a 5 minute visit here just rubbed salt in the wound considering their "care" actually caused me a delay in treatment and caused me great amount of pain in the end. I would avoid this establishment if at all possible.
