The perfect example of the local hardware store…read more.. I was in the area doing some work on my parcel of land by Toledo Bend and one of my hand tools broke. Not being familiar with the town of Many and short on time, I used Yelp! to find the nearest hardware store. The older gentleman working couldn't have been more helpful. He showed me where the screw to fix my tool was located, help me choose the size and then, having no tools with me, helped me fix the tool (I brought it along) with a couple wrenches off the shelf. I also picked up another hand tool I forgot at home, which was reasonably priced compared with the big box stores like Home Depot and Lowe's. I would have liked to look around a little more, but had to get back to work. I wasn't in the market for them, I did notice a few hard to find building supplies and hunting items that can't be found at chain stores like Lowe's and Academy. Overall, a great experience...and I was back to work in no time. Probably more of a 4.5 rating, but I'll go with a 5 star rating because of the service and the fact that these local stores are getting harder to find nowadays when corporations come to town.

They always have a good variety of plants to choose from; they even took my name and number to call me when the plants came in so I could get the mints I wanted before they sold out! The employees are always incredibly nice and extremely helpful. Overall, great place to go to if you need farming stuff.

This was when the Sabine River was overflowing and looking to take a short break as we detoured through East Texas to reach Louisiana. At 5:45 am a man beat on the window and told us to leave the parking lot as the store was opening. We were parked in plain view in the front and not been bothering anything in a vacant lot. The store would not be opening any time soon and we were not even asked if everything was okay, just told to go. Left an impression on us that will not fade.

I rushed to Home Hardware in Winnfield to get some small plumbing parts to finish up an already long job. On entering, a woman with blonde hair informed me to hurry, they were closing the store. She did not offer to assist me. A young man in the back finished with a customer and then he came over and helped me gather the parts I needed. Then, he then asked her for the key to unlock the back to ge a piece of pipe. The blonde lady replied, "I'm not unlocking the back, it's after 2:00 o'clock, we're closed." I handed the the gathered parts back to the young man and left. This is the kind of customer service that destroys businesses. Atlanta Water System has nearly 1200 people depending on them for water and your employee did not have 10 minutes to help us keep that water flowing for them. I worked in the retail and wholesale auto parts business for 40 years. It is very similar to your business except in product sold. I would have never thought to treat a customer like that. Atlanta Water System is not a major customer of yours. We don't buy that much, but we have been a customer there for 50 years back when it was Harrell Builders. To me, this has always been the problem when a town loses local ownership of its businesses. Out of town corporations don't give a shit about anything. Anything that is, except the bottom line.
