Kaffie-Frederick, Inc. General Mercantile is a salk through the past in so many ways. A sign outside says it is Louisiana's oldest general store and this was an amazing place. The staff was friendly and only added to the experience. I would definitely recommend a visit here. read more

I love going to this place, it's a very old place with lots of things to look at! There are bird feeders, awesome chimes and toys! All kinds of hardware, glassware, china, some baby stuff! You need to go in there at least once! I've been to a lot of old general stores but this is different! read more

Old hardware store on Front Street in Natchitoches. It is exactly like the old hardware stores of my childhood. Like the man at the door said "If you can't find it here, you don't need it." I have never seen so many retro toys, great bakeware, wonderful wrought iron and stainless steel pots. Nicest salespeople ever! The ambiance was amazing like going to a home place. The oldest general store in Louisiana should be a must-visit if you're in the area. Be sure to ask one of the employees the history of the store so you can get a better taste of the experience. This store has everything. I was quickly greeted upon entering by a friendly employee who did check in with me which I roamed. The store has everything - all sorts of toys - older ones that have nostalgic memories attached to them, cast iron pots and cooking materials, Christmas decorations, tools, kitchen gadgets, and some lovely gift items upstairs. This is a great place to drop in, especially if you need a change of scenery from the other stores along Front Street. Now that I know what materials are there, i am excited to visit again in the future. read more

Great store, full of all kinds of different items. Their kitchen section was especially robust, offering a unique selection of bakeware, cookware, knives, and specialty tools. The prices were reasonable. No bargains necessarily, but nothing to scoff at either. I wish I were local so I could shop the kitchenware here regularly! The toys are a mix of vintage reproductions and newer games and playthings. Most were of good quality. They have many other items, from tools to salsa to lotions. The upstairs is mostly décor, jewelry, and stationary... most of which was not our style. The building itself is very neat - a little slice of history! I probably wouldn't drive too far out of my way to get here, but if you find yourself in Natchitoches one day, definitely do pop in. read more

Oldest hardware/general store in the state. Great history in historic downtown Natchitoches, LA alongside the river. You will practically find anything in this store and want to buy it all. But, be forewarned that they are proud of their stuff as it is a little pricey. However, still, it is pretty awesome to step inside history and look around. read more

We had a great time shopping here today. The building is amazing. They have done a great job of mixing the old and new. They have sighs around explaining the history of the building. Very cool. We actually needed some hardware supplies which they had at a good price. Additionally they had a lot of Christmas stuff for same that came home with my wife. I would love to go back when we have more time to look around. read more

Very cute store! I was mainly interested in the toys and marble section tho. Very good prices on the marbles, they're priced by size. They had seed packets and TERRARIUMS that were great! Unfortunately they ranged from $40-60. They give you directions for maintaining the plants which is an excellent thing to do. Oh! And at the entrance they had a full windows worth of cute tricycles. One was a worm, there was a fire truck, an airplane, etc! read more

The Kaffie-Frederick Mercantile has been in business over 150 years. Sitting on the main street along the river of Natchitoches, which was settled before the Louisiana Purchase. This store is awesome! Wish I'd brought my good camera. We were there at least an hour, and kept buying stuff. Fun stuff and seriously old hardware, still for sale. Huge selection if cast iron - all sizes. A few old fashioned toys. Heirloom seeds! Then, when we were nearly done, we came across the item we had to have. An original cajun drip coffee pot, just like my husband and his parents drank from. The two brothers who own and operate are direct descendants of the initial owner. And one of them goes out and finds these old pots and refurbishes then himself. We had to have one! Not cheap, but we are loving the coffee, memories, and owning a keepsake from the oldest hardware store in at least Louisiana! Dont miss this place if you visit the area. read more

Steppin' Back In Time.......you can spend a couple of hours in this place! I can't believe nobody has YELPed it! I don't know where to begin.....EVERY NOOK & CRANNY is filled with anything from old tools, kitchen stuff, toys from the 1960's, boots,.....the list goes on and on! Don't forget to look upstairs!
