On our last trip, my teen son went by himself one day and was short a few coins on a purchase. The cashier spotted him. So, we made sure to go back the next day and nab a few souvenirs and gifts. They have an adorable collection of crystal birds. I now have a cute crystal bee hanging above my kitchen sink. They also sell many beautiful scents. Can't go to Natchitoches without bringing home the scent of magnolias. I highly recommend going sometime other than Christmas. The Lights Festival is a blast. Enjoy that. But go again when things are slower, and you can park down by the river and talk with all the shopkeepers.

Plantation Treasures is located on the historic Front Street that borders Cane River Lake. The staff was very friendly. I bought a Fleur d' Lis cheese/butter knife. When I went to check out, the woman at the register said that she wanted to go into the back to pull out a nicer one that didn't any of the sticky stuff that would eventually come off with the price tag. I thought that was really nice. She didn't have to do that at all. She wrapped it in tissue paper too. My Stepmom had to return something the next day. We were running late and would arrive after they had closed for the day (5:00 p.m.). The lady she spoke with on the phone agreed to stay late until we arrived so my Stepmom could make an exchange. Now that's customer service. The funny thing is, we had called earlier that day to see how late they were open. The lady replied that they usually close at 5:00 p.m., but will stay open as long as need be if they are busy.

I tried to return a pair of shoes today for store credit. Brenda (the owner) told me I could not…read morereturn them because it had been too long and that she didn't carry the shoes anymore. First, I purchased the shoes week before Christmas to wear for the holiday. I could not wear the shoes because the zipper was broken. The shoes were never worn. Second, I do not live in Natchitoches. Brenda asked me why I didn't mail them back. Really? Third, Brenda had the shoes in stock. Fourth, receipt clearly states store credit after 10 days. Brenda, as a business owner, apparently doesn't care about customer service. This was my first time shopping in the Natchitoches area and I will never step foot in Brenda's again. I have been in retail management for over 25 years and I never told a customer they could not return something for store credit when they had a receipt. I was furious when I left, made an jack??? Out of myself. I tried calling the store to get Brenda's last name, I was hung up 3 times. This just reaffirms Brenda's attitude as a business owner. Kudos to the associate in the store, she was nice and told me in the beginning I could use store credit. The customer service stopped when Brenda took over.

Don't get fooled because this is in a small town -- they carry incredibly beautiful diamonds, gems, and jewelry that you'd expect to find in upscale stores in bigger cities. On the flip side, they have so many approachable items that will fit any budget. In addition to carrying great jewelry, Family JewelBox also sells a selection of home goods and fine china. I've bought/received many items over the years, and everything is very high quality. I would trust Phyllis any day over some big box store at the mall.
