We just went again last weekend. The rest of the extended family went four years ago and I didn't make it, but I did go to the ranch eight years ago for the reunion. It was great. I don't think this place could possibly get any better. The check-in process went very smoothly. My party of two adults and three kids was accommodated very quickly. We were able to schedule out trail ride for the next day right when we checked in. We stayed in a two story cabin type of room. The upstairs had a full bath and two full beds. It was more of a loft than a bedroom per se. the downstairs had a living room area with a couch and small table and chairs, a full bath and a queen and a full bed in a separate bedroom. Overall, the accommodations were fine. Nothing fancy at all. They were decorated in a log cabin/ western theme (obviously lol) and they were properly cleaned. If you're expecting luxury, this is not the place to go. The rooms are meant to be slept in and to shower in and that's pretty much it. A FEW ODDBALL THINGS TO KNOW: the doors don't lock. Like, there are locks on the doors to lock yourself in, but no keys. So when you leave your room, the doors are left unlocked (at least this is how it was in the cabins by the tennis courts). There is a safe in the room to store your valuables. Also, there is no wifi in the rooms and no TV's. This wasn't a deal breaker for me, but I can see it being so for some people. The grounds were well maintained and there were plenty of activities provided. They had a nice shuffleboard court, cornhole, tennis courts, a bocci court, a basketball court and a nice playground for the kids. They also have an indoor pool that is kept very clean. There is a seating area by the lake/ beach with lounge chairs. We also booked a fishing outing on their pontoon boat. The kids had a blast and the skipper was a really nice and helpful kid. He baited our hooks and everything. The lodge/ main building is gorgeous. It's a cabin/ Adirondack theme with plenty of chairs/ couches to sit on and relax by the beautiful fireplace. There is a game room with video games in this building, and shelves with books and board games that we were free to use. The bar is super cheap and they pour quite well. They have live music at the bar every night and it's definitely the center of activity in the evening and alot of fun. Wifi is available here as well. The dining hall is upstairs and the food was a step above typical fare. The breakfast is a buffet style, but the staff serves it. No guests will be touching your food. They have an omelette station, French toast, pancakes, amazing bacon, sausage, cereal for the kids... good stuff! Lunch is pretty standard, sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers etc.... we had not one complaint about dinner. Anything we ordered was wonderful. Our expectations weren't super high, but they were far exceeded. Service was top notch in the dining hall. The folks who worked as horse trail guides and who worked in the stable were awesome. They were very helpful with us five inexperienced riders. The trail rides were about 45 minutes long and the trails were beautiful. The fall scenery was amazing. It's evident that the owners and employees take great pride in this place. By the end of the week, my kids were begging us to book again next year and we did. Highly recommended! read more

This place is nothing short of spectacular! I've been coming here every Halloween since I was 6 months old and I hope to come here with my family some day. GREAT family vacation. Hell, it's even a great friends vacation! Very relaxing, all inclusive (except alcoholic drinks, but you can also bring your own and chill on the porch of your cabin). Horseback riding, activities (movie night, pizza night, bingo night, etc), hiking, paddle-boating, Halloween party, pool and hot tub for swimming, tennis courts, I could go on and on! The staff has been the same throughout the years so they're like family you haven't seen in a year every time you see them. Have I mentioned it's BEAUTIFUL up there in the Adirondack Mountains? Especially in the fall with the foliage when you're riding on the trails. I'm in my mid-twenties and this is still my favorite vacation of the year. I highly, highly recommend Ridin-Hy Ranch. I've been going to Ridin Hy for 33 years! Started as a kid and now I take my kids every year! The price is worth every penny! We just got back from a weekend at the ranch for Columbus Day weekend. We went on 6 amazing trail rides. The kids and I figured out that if we had to pay for each ride, the total would come out to about what we paid for the whole trip! We're from Florida, so the fact that we fly up for a weekend trip, says a lot about the Ranch! Riding Hy is our favorite place on the planet, hands down, for so many reasons! The service is ALWAYS top notch, from the front desk, to the bar, to the dining room staff and especially the Cowboys! Most of the staff genuinely remember us every year which is always awesome! I grew up around horses and strongly feel Ridin Hy has the best trails in the country! We've been up there in the summer, winter and fall and I think Fall might be our favorite. You get all the same activities as summer just with cooler temps and amazing foliage views! read more

There wasn't much to do. The food was not good and there were limited options. They run out of food. No all you can drink option. You have to pay for soda and beverages. There were Over 50 Ants in my room in the middle of winter with snow on the ground!!! They sprayed for the ants. Now my room smells horrific and it makes me nauseous. I have to sleep with the windows open even though it's 35degF outside. The ants were still found after they sprayed ... still had dozens of them in my room. Unpaved roads and it is so very muddy. The Horses are full of mud, dirty and not well kept. They just put saddles on them. There are kid waiters and staff who don't care when you complain or get a wrong order of food. The Board games are incomplete and unusable. I Would NOT recommend this place and I won't be coming back. You get what you paid for I guess. read more

I have gone to the ranch for 2 years and had a reservation for a third year.in August. I called to cancel my reservation, note 5 months in advance due to loosing my job because of Covid19. When every other company is waving cancellation fees they are still charging them with no compassion for the circumstances. Their response was it's August can't help you it is on the bottom of the reservation confirmation. Should you like me to send it to you so you can see it. For a place that talks about family you have no morals. Marriott hotels have waved all cancellation fees for any reason and time frame. I can understand if I did it last minute but 5 months out. I have received an email from management and they have refunded the deposit. And left an apology. I did and do enjoy the ranch and look forward to returning in the future read more

Our family has been vacationing at Ridin-Hy Ranch for going on 10 years. We have vacationed in all seasons - including Winter which is fun with warm cabins. This is a great family resort. Our kids were 8, 6 and 13 when they first started going. It has been our family Summer and Winter vacation spot ever since. The ranch is about a 15-minute ride off the main road. If you're interested in a quiet vacation - this is your spot! Expect a family-style dining experience with something for everyone on the menu. During the day relax with boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, horseback riding, tennis, etc. There is a nice playground for the younger kids. The main lodge of the ranch suffered a total loss in October 2017. None of the outer cabins or property was damaged. Ridin-Hy is scheduled to re-open December 26, 2017, after building a temporary kitchen and using existing space for the dining hall and recreation areas. read more

Wonderful staff and the kids loved it but the food was not good. They tried for sure and a lot of folks seemed fine with it. But if you're a foodie, you won't be psyched. My recommendation for the owners (who do care a lot about customer experience) is to consult with a modern nutritionist and get your salad game upleveled. I loved our trip there highly recommend! Me and my kids loved the indoor pool and hot tub! My only recommendation would be to have maybe a one hour adult only swim. Really my only complaint is about the lack of supervision from other parents on their kids. The staff was super friendlys s helpful. The food was very good, always had different things of food to offer throughout the day. Definitely will try to come next Winter. My wife and her family had gone to Ridin-Hy each summer when she was younger, and when we first started dating she mentioned the ranch no less than daily, so in my attempts to woo her, I booked a weekend at Ridin-Hy. That first trip was ten years ago, and since we have been almost twenty times. I even proposed to her at Ridin-Hy. When we do have children it will be the first place we take them on vacation. We just returned from our most recent Ridin-Hy getaway last night, and it didn't disappoint. The first thing you will feel about the ranch after driving in on the scenic 3 mile unpaved road that runs along the Schroon River, is that you have been transported back in time to some sort of ideal classic Americana neither now or then. You are completely expecting a family of four to pull up in an antarctic blue super sports wagon with a CB and optional family funpack. The two children - one boy and one girl - hop out running towards the lake filled with excitement wearing their plastic cowboy hats, while the father unties the luggage from the roof of the car and the mother is greeted by the owners. It pretty much happens this way, except instead of the sports wagon it is SUVs, and no one ties the luggage to the roof any longer, but that is about how it happens whenever anyone arrives. Someone is always there to greet you, and the first thing they ask is if you are hungry and would like to sit for lunch. The ranch - while feeling very classic and nostalgic - does not feel old or dated in the least. The facilities are mostly log cabin type buildings. A lodge, that has a large dining room, a lobby complete with giant fireplace, and a bar with a stage for the nightly live music. There are also "hotel" style rooms in the lodge that you may stay in. The other buildings surrounding the lodge and looking out over the lake are of varying size and rooms depending on how many are in each party. On this weekends trip we stayed in the Gold Min unit B. We have stayed in every type of room available to a party of two, this was by far the nicest. A fairly new log cabin in the corner of the property, it was very quiet. Our accommodations had a living room area complete with futon, a bedroom with a queen and twin beds, and a very large bathroom. All rooms had ceiling fans, and additional window fans were provided, but even during any warm season AC is fairly unnecessary that far into the Adirondacks. The cabin had very high cathedral type ceilings that increased the spaciousness. Out front was a porch, with tables and chairs for us that overlooked the lake. Stunning. We have stayed in every room possible for being only two guests, they are all nice. There are no televisions or telephones in the rooms, and the cell signals are weak at best. (At least ATT&T is). This really offers you the opportunity to disconnect, and feel far away from wherever you drove from. It is something I hope they never change. The activities at Ridin-Hy are plenty in any season. Obviously horses are the main attraction. The generally keep about 70 horses on the ranch at any given time. Rides range from pony rides for children, to beginner and intermediate, to the very fast advanced rides. The horses are impeccably kept and the cowboys/cowgirls are always professional and provide exciting experiences while always maintaining a safe and organized ride. I had first gone to Ridin-Hy having never ridden a horse outside of a county fair pony ride. It did not take long until they had me safely, and happily flying through the forest on an exhilarating fast ride! You can also enjoy a variety of other animals that live at the ranch, miniature donkeys, hens, pigs, goats, ect..... There are also plenty of other activities regardless of season. Fishing, ice-fishing, hiking, archery, water skiing, snow skiing, snowmobiling, and dune buggies only name a few. The food is exactly what you would expect at a dude ranch, and you can eat as much as you like. One of the small changes that has occurred over the years is the addition of healthier options such as large salads and veggie burgers. You will never be hungry during your stay. Have a long ride home? Yesterday we watched on of the members of the family who runs the ranch pack lunched for a family to enjoy on their ride home. The pinnacle of the week is Saturday night which starts with a wine and cheese party, and moves into the smorgasbord - a venerable feast of turkey, roast beef, ribs, potatoes, veggies, pastas, ect....... After dinner you can enjoy the bar. There is live music every evening, with dancing and drinking. The drinks are cheap, and service is fantastic. It is a great chance to make new friends amongst the other guests, and get to know the staff. Ridin-Hy is a great family operated resort I would recommend to anyone. read more

My expectations may have been to high for this place. My theory is they rely on repeat visitors that have been going to this resort for years, leaving the first timers feeling pretty lost. The staff for the most part were not engaging and not very friendly. 1 young female bartender and I believe the Activity Director (can't remember his name) were really the only friendly people we encountered. The food was good for the most part - although some meals were definitely not homemade. The horses were friendly but the rides were pretty boring and silent for the most part. The guides did not even attempt to engage in any conversation. When we went to the barn for our ride - they didn't even say hello. They stood outside next to us and when 11:30 rolled around we got "you are all over 18 right?" then they proceeded to put us on the horses. We had to ask for the horses name. It appeared we were putting them out by going on the ride. Honestly I only did the one ride because of how put out they seemed about assisting us. I really didn't want to bother them again - I know a lot of horse people and I'd say for the most part I have never encountered one that really didn't love what they were doing with the horses or not want to talk to you about them - until our weekend at this ranch. For first timers if you do decide to try this ranch out, know you need to sign up for everything in the main office (most of their staff was not very friendly either - and I hear they are the owners - totally surprised me - but once again if you are a regular I am sure you will be a lot more welcomed). Massages - should you want one - sign up for it the day you get there. They are limited and they go fast (another aspect we weren't told about - so we waiting for the schedule the next morning before scheduling ours and all the appointments were gone.) The schedule comes out in the morning - the first day we were there it was on a board outside the office - (had we not been to the office we wouldn't have seen it.) The next day it was on our table when we went in for breakfast. Pretty much a repeat of the day before activities. They only difference was a wagon ride and a different hike - everything else was the same. They had a murder mystery weekend going on - which pretty much went the entire weekend - but if you didn't engage in the first night (which we didn't because we were pretty tire) you were pretty much lost the rest of the weekend so the show didn't make sense to us - but I am sure it was fun for those that saw it on Fri night. All in all - we won't be going back unfortunately - but will be trying out other ranches hopefully. I think the concept of the Dude Ranch could be fun - if there were more of a friendly vibe. P.S. If you are looking for internet access be prepared to put a hotspot on your phone. We could not connect for some reason to the guest internet they had available. read more

I love Ridin-Hy Ranch!! We go every year for a scrapbooking weekend, and it is perfect! There is so much to do that can break up your day; horseback riding, nature hikes, BINGO! Bring your stretchy pants, though, because no sooner have you finished a fabulous meal, and they are putting out wine and cheese, late night pizza, or freshly baked cookies! The cabins are simple and clean. There are no televisions in the cabins; but there is a big one in the bar. And speaking of the bar, they have a full bar with very inexpensive drinks. Went for Thanksgiving, it was great. Staff is as good as it gets, super friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Rooms, lodge and grounds are well kept and clean. Horses for all levels of riders. Horses are in great condition and clean. Trails are scenic and very well groomed to make riding relaxing and enjoyable. We will be back. Only "downside" ( if you can call it that ) is Wi-Fi needs an upgrade to handle amount of users and it is only available in the main lodge. But, it is great to 'un-plug' and enjoy the resort offerings. read more

Amazing family trip we just had! Beautiful new room we staid in overlooking the lake. Very clean all around in rooms, in buildings and around the facility. We felt very comfortable with the safety procedures with this pandemic they took, friendly staff! Many activities for all ages and I took comfort that they kindly enforced cleaning of everything down to horse saddles and helmets and masks on while getting on your horse. Also during any activity and walking inside building when not distanced. Hand sanitizer around all over and your own table everytime for each meal the whole time. This wasn't my first trip, I had went years ago and also had a wonderful experience and had a good feeling they would be safe and still be able to experience a wonderful time and we so where able too! Also met wonderful people! We will be going back again for sure and after feeling comfort in how they handled all of this and kept an amazing experience still for everyone is truly a five star! Due to all the reviews that this place has my husband and I were very excited to come here for a couple days. A problem occurred was when we called I made sure that they were doing experienced horse riding as my husband and I are experienced riders. We check in and go to sign up for an experienced ride and learn that they are only doing intermediate and beginner riding. Cassie was the most amazing rider though very nice and professional and made us very comfortable .Everything else here was nice and they have quite the events for kids and parents to sign up. But customer service is sketchy could be good one day and bad the next. And be warned there are not locks on the doors even when your in the room they don't really work they tell people to leave everything in their car or the safe in the room. Food was okay wasn't amazing but alot of the things are frozen like the vegetables and the premad chicken dish. All in all we still had a nice relaxing time here and I suggest it for families with younger children. read more

We went to Ridin Hy on the recommendation of a friend, and we are so glad we did. We had absolutely the best time. We stayed for 3 nights and 4 days, and though we are a couple in our mid-20s and we may not be Ridin Hy's usual demographic, we loved our visit and wished we could have stayed longer. We are already planning our return trip. We were a bit overwhelmed when we first arrived. We had a long drive up for our 8 PM arrival time and it was dark and foggy. We weren't quite sure where to go, and once we found the lodge, it was packed to the gills with people as it was the Sunday night of Labor Day weekend. There was a band playing in the lodge, and it was a loud and boisterous crowd. The front desk closes at 8, which we didn't realize, but we were able to track someone down and get to our room. We stayed in the Gold Coast, which is a cabin across from the lodge, and it was much bigger and nicer than we expected (I think we originally intended to stay in the Main Lodge). It could easily sleep 4-5 adults. The rooms were spotless and had everything we could have wanted. While the ranch was at or close to capacity when we arrived, everyone headed out on Monday, so for the rest of our stay, the place was a ghost town, which was nice. I liked it both ways-- a hopping party and a tranquil mountain escape. We rode multiple times a day, and all the horses were wonderful. I have been riding for 20 years, and my boyfriend had basically never ridden, but we both enjoyed the rides thoroughly. Our favorite guides were Adam, Elsie, and Don. Adam treated us like old friends and Elsie took us for some great rides. Don had many helpful hints for maximizing our stay and is practically a historian when it comes to the ranch! Everyone made us feel welcome and special, not like just another guest or a number. I only wish there was a bit more variety in the trails. We mostly did the same loops over and over. There were some lovely sights to see though-- mountains, a waterfall, bridges, the Schroon River, some deer. The property is beautiful, and we kept saying we'd like to try a hike, but then kept finding we were enjoying what we were doing so much that we didn't want to leave the grounds to go on the hikes! Kayaking, swimming in the lake or indoor pool, sitting by the beach with a book, and tennis were all great options. I enjoyed the social events they coordinated, like the wine and cheese party. Some minor things that were slightly less than perfect: The fitness room left a bit to be desired, but then again, I'm a competitive weightlifter so maybe it'd be fine for most people. There were more than a few screaming children, but this doesn't bother me much. If kids bother you, you might want to consider going mid-week while school is in session! Also, the days we were there seemed to be the days they were doing all the loud property maintenance-- lawn mowing, weed wacking, and grading of the beach and driveways. I realize that this stuff has to get done at some point and mid-week is most logical for them, but they started before 8 AM and kept at it pretty much all day for each day we were there, so that did detract from the peacefulness a bit. I will say that they lost power because of a transformer explosion, had a well pump die, and had the beach get washed out by a nighttime thunder storm all in the short time we were there, and they were right on top of fixing those things before the guests even knew about them. And seriously, if these are the worst things that happen when you go someplace like this, you're doing pretty well, and it certainly didn't affect how much we loved our stay, but I'm just being honest. As for the food: we were never once hungry during our stay, and my boyfriend eats a LOT. Breakfast was the standard stuff, but they let you order as much as you want. Lunch and dinner were never anything fancy nor particularly healthy-- it's all downhome, hearty stuff-- exactly as food at a dude ranch should be! The best things we had were the turkey dinner, the goulash, and the yellow cake with chocolate frosting. Delicious! We found when it was time to go that not only did we not want to leave, we were so sad to be missing out on that night's activities and dinner menu. We will definitely be back. I went to the ranch for the first time with some extended family over the 4th of July holiday. I had a fabulous time. It's like summer camp for adults but also very kid oriented. The whole ranch is very clean and the staff is super friendly and helpful. There is a ton of activities from bingo to archery to horseback riding to arts and crafts and sports an so much more. This is the type of place where you can do as much or as little as you want. There is a beautiful lake to either admire or jump on in and swim or float. The food is pretty good here and if you leave hungry it's your own fault. If you are looking for a gourmet meal then you have picked the wrong place but I was quite happy with everything I ate and drank. There were a lot of choices.I had a fabulous time and can't wait to go back next year. The only reason I am not giving this place 5 stars is that the water pressure in the shower was a little lacking but other wise this place is a must see! read more

This was our fourth family visit and it gets better each time. All the kids are adults now and they enjoy it as much now as when they were young. There is so much to do, you won't have time to sit down. Nobody wanted to leave. The staff is kind and helpful. The food is good and plentiful, especially the Saturday night buffet, it is worth the trip alone. If you ride the horses, be sure the check out the cowboy Ryan, he is so cute and nice. Me and my family go to Ridin Hy every single year and I half to say, I wouldn't trade anything to stop going here. The staff is so kind. Everything is so clean and welcoming. My cousins, my little brothers and I were on an intermediate trail ride and Analise, the cowgirl was so nice and was willing to help us anytime we needed it. My wife and I have run a small inn for thirty years, so we know a little bit about the hospitality trade. When we get the chance to step away, we go to Ridin'-Hy. I go for all of it, but the horses are my main interest. As a guest, you have amazingly easy access to rides of all levels, with a great line-up of horses. The trails and scenery are beautiful, with views of Adirondack forest, the Schroon River, and Sherman Lake where the ranch is set. The lake is clean, clear and calm, so when things warm up, swimming, row-boats, kayaks are available. They have tons of activities available, even if horses aren't your ting. The staff is great, both in the lodge and at the barn, with an easy, guest-oriented attitude that makes any day there very pleasant. We were just there for five nights and booked another stay! read more
