Amazing location. Loved the activities, staff were professional and friendly. Great food! Sensory sensitive approved.

    Horsies!! And beautiful scenery!

I don't think this place could possibly get any better. The check-in process went very smoothly. My party of two adults and three kids was accommodated very quickly. We were able to schedule out trail ride for the next day right when we checked in. We stayed in a two story cabin type of room. The upstairs had a full bath and two full beds. It was more of a loft than a bedroom per se. the downstairs had a living room area with a couch and small table and chairs, a full bath and a queen and a full bed in a separate bedroom. Overall, the accommodations were fine. Nothing fancy at all. They were decorated in a log cabin/ western theme (obviously lol) and they were properly cleaned. If you're expecting luxury, this is not the place to go. The rooms are meant to be slept in and to shower in and that's pretty much it. A FEW ODDBALL THINGS TO KNOW: the doors don't lock. Like, there are locks on the doors to lock yourself in, but no keys. So when you leave your room, the doors are left unlocked (at least this is how it was in the cabins by the tennis courts). There is a safe in the room to store your valuables. Also, there is no wifi in the rooms and no TV's. This wasn't a deal breaker for me, but I can see it being so for some people. The grounds were well maintained and there were plenty of activities provided. They had a nice shuffleboard court, cornhole, tennis courts, a bocci court, a basketball court and a nice playground for the kids. They also have an indoor pool that is kept very clean. There is a seating area by the lake/ beach with lounge chairs. We also booked a fishing outing on their pontoon boat. The kids had a blast and the skipper was a really nice and helpful kid. He baited our hooks and everything. The lodge/ main building is gorgeous. It's a cabin/ Adirondack theme with plenty of chairs/ couches to sit on and relax by the beautiful fireplace. There is a game room with video games in this building, and shelves with books and board games that we were free to use. The bar is super cheap and they pour quite well. They have live music at the bar every night and it's definitely the center of activity in the evening and alot of fun. Wifi is available here as well. The dining hall is upstairs and the food was a step above typical fare. The breakfast is a buffet style, but the staff serves it. No guests will be touching your food. They have an omelette station, French toast, pancakes, amazing bacon, sausage, cereal for the kids... good stuff! Lunch is pretty standard, sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers etc.... we had not one complaint about dinner. Anything we ordered was wonderful. Our expectations weren't super high, but they were far exceeded. Service was top notch in the dining hall. The folks who worked as horse trail guides and who worked in the stable were awesome. They were very helpful with us five inexperienced riders. The trail rides were about 45 minutes long and the trails were beautiful. The fall scenery was amazing. It's evident that the owners and employees take great pride in this place. By the end of the week, my kids were begging us to book again next year and we did. Highly recommended!

This place is nothing short of spectacular! I've been coming here every Halloween since I was 6 months old and I hope to come here with my family some day. GREAT family vacation. Hell, it's even a great friends vacation! Very relaxing, all inclusive (except alcoholic drinks, but you can also bring your own and chill on the porch of your cabin). Horseback riding, activities (movie night, pizza night, bingo night, etc), hiking, paddle-boating, Halloween party, pool and hot tub for swimming, tennis courts, I could go on and on! The staff has been the same throughout the years so they're like family you haven't seen in a year every time you see them. Have I mentioned it's BEAUTIFUL up there in the Adirondack Mountains? Especially in the fall with the foliage when you're riding on the trails. I'm in my mid-twenties and this is still my favorite vacation of the year. I highly, highly recommend Ridin-Hy Ranch. It is nothing short of a good time for all ages and all activity levels.

Morning looking out over the lake.

My wife and her family had gone to Ridin-Hy each summer when she was younger, and when we first started dating she mentioned the ranch no less than daily, so in my attempts to woo her, I booked a weekend at Ridin-Hy. That first trip was ten years ago, and since we have been almost twenty times. I even proposed to her at Ridin-Hy. When we do have children it will be the first place we take them on vacation. We just returned from our most recent Ridin-Hy getaway last night, and it didn't disappoint. The first thing you will feel about the ranch after driving in on the scenic 3 mile unpaved road that runs along the Schroon River, is that you have been transported back in time to some sort of ideal classic Americana neither now or then. You are completely expecting a family of four to pull up in an antarctic blue super sports wagon with a CB and optional family funpack. The two children - one boy and one girl - hop out running towards the lake filled with excitement wearing their plastic cowboy hats, while the father unties the luggage from the roof of the car and the mother is greeted by the owners. It pretty much happens this way, except instead of the sports wagon it is SUVs, and no one ties the luggage to the roof any longer, but that is about how it happens whenever anyone arrives. Someone is always there to greet you, and the first thing they ask is if you are hungry and would like to sit for lunch. The ranch - while feeling very classic and nostalgic - does not feel old or dated in the least. The facilities are mostly log cabin type buildings. A lodge, that has a large dining room, a lobby complete with giant fireplace, and a bar with a stage for the nightly live music. There are also "hotel" style rooms in the lodge that you may stay in. The other buildings surrounding the lodge and looking out over the lake are of varying size and rooms depending on how many are in each party. On this weekends trip we stayed in the Gold Min unit B. We have stayed in every type of room available to a party of two, this was by far the nicest. A fairly new log cabin in the corner of the property, it was very quiet. Our accommodations had a living room area complete with futon, a bedroom with a queen and twin beds, and a very large bathroom. All rooms had ceiling fans, and additional window fans were provided, but even during any warm season AC is fairly unnecessary that far into the Adirondacks. The cabin had very high cathedral type ceilings that increased the spaciousness. Out front was a porch, with tables and chairs for us that overlooked the lake. Stunning. We have stayed in every room possible for being only two guests, they are all nice. There are no televisions or telephones in the rooms, and the cell signals are weak at best. (At least ATT&T is). This really offers you the opportunity to disconnect, and feel far away from wherever you drove from. It is something I hope they never change. The activities at Ridin-Hy are plenty in any season. Obviously horses are the main attraction. The generally keep about 70 horses on the ranch at any given time. Rides range from pony rides for children, to beginner and intermediate, to the very fast advanced rides. The horses are impeccably kept and the cowboys/cowgirls are always professional and provide exciting experiences while always maintaining a safe and organized ride. I had first gone to Ridin-Hy having never ridden a horse outside of a county fair pony ride. It did not take long until they had me safely, and happily flying through the forest on an exhilarating fast ride! You can also enjoy a variety of other animals that live at the ranch, miniature donkeys, hens, pigs, goats, ect..... There are also plenty of other activities regardless of season. Fishing, ice-fishing, hiking, archery, water skiing, snow skiing, snowmobiling, and dune buggies only name a few. The food is exactly what you would expect at a dude ranch, and you can eat as much as you like. One of the small changes that has occurred over the years is the addition of healthier options such as large salads and veggie burgers. You will never be hungry during your stay. Have a long ride home? Yesterday we watched on of the members of the family who runs the ranch pack lunched for a family to enjoy on their ride home. The pinnacle of the week is Saturday night which starts with a wine and cheese party, and moves into the smorgasbord - a venerable feast of turkey, roast beef, ribs, potatoes, veggies, pastas, ect....... After dinner you can enjoy the bar. There is live music every evening, with dancing and drinking. The drinks are cheap, and service is fantastic. It is a great chance to make new friends amongst the other guests, and get to know the staff. Ridin-Hy is a great family operated resort I would recommend to anyone.

Pricing for accommodations is per person and includes one ride per person per day as well as 3 meals a day and all of the non horse activities on-site. If what's on-site wasn't enough to fill your time, the ranch is about a 20 minutes drive from Lake George as well as hiking. Gorgeous setting - the property is nestled along the banks of the Hudson River and the shadows of the Adirondacks. The stables and paddocks lay on side of the road under the shadows of the mountain. The accommodations, saloon, dining hall, basketball court, horse show pits, pools, beach, kayak launch and main office are on the Hudson River side. Our room had recently been renovated as the smell of newly hewn pine would attest to. The country cabin vibe was clean and the bed/ pillows were very comfortable. It also had a mini fridge, cable, WiFi and flat screen TV. It has a cute little porch attached with seating out front for 4 to watch your kids or just enjoy the view and sounds of nature. Meals are: 9a Breakfast 1p Lunch 6:30p Dinner We were there for 2 dinners, 2 breakfasts and a lunch. The food was great! Soda bar is available for refills as well pitchers of water and juice for breakfast and of course coffee and tea. * I'm not sure how it works for kids, I'm sure the Chef would work with you to get something they would like as he asked us. TIP: Bring snacks and additional drinks and keep in your in room fridge if you need. There's some gas stations and convenience stores in Lake George you can pick up some things of you feel like you or your group may need more. The stables are fine enough. There are helmets available, we brought our own. The horses are kept herd style and are grouped mainly in one big pasture. They bring in just the horses they need and switch them out as needed. The hands have the horses tacked and waiting for you, so make sure you come on time or even a bit early. TIP: The larger the group the more time wasted getting everyone on a horse and it'll start eating into your ride time. The first ride - NO MATTER WHAT BOX YOU CHECKED- is an assessment to see where you're riding skills and horsemanship are at. They try to find you a horse suitable based on what you rated your skill level and observe your riding up and down slight hills and the trails in general at a walk and trot. After that ride, the barn manager will let you know what types of rides they feel comfortable you can do next. There is a lead guide and another hand in the rear of the group. - A fast ride- which is the same as the first ride with loping/cantering and more aggressive steeper hills. If you want more rides - for an additional fee you can take lessons, work cattle, take a several hour trail ride or even cross the Hudson and trail ride more! The horses used for trail riding are atleast shod in the front if not all 4. With the rockiness, brush, hills and sticks it's important to keep their feet healthy. We got there extra early and they allowed us to brush our horses and assist them in tacking them as well. Obviously, this is only possible when there isn't a lot of other guests otherwise you could just be in the way. Everyone in the stables was knowledgeable of our horses personal quirks and how best to communicate to them..this horse listens better to neck rein vs plow rein or leg pressure vs reins. Shout out to Baby and Black Jack! We had a total of 3 rides - the assessment, a fast ride and a longer fast ride and used the same horses as we seemed to fit well with their personalities. But, if you wanted to try a different horse let them know - they would do their best to accommodate. You get one ride per nights stay per person, if you want more tell the barn manager and they will tell you what time and you would just pay the front desk. The owner is on premises the entire time. Staff everywhere were friendly, asked how our stay was going and if they could do anything to make it better...and on my birthday at dinner they had gotten me some pretty flowers, card signed by all the ranch team and even a piece of gluten free cake!!! SUPER thoughtful, sweet and made my day! The current owner has had the property for a year and has been working on improvements. The pools outside and some of the rooms/cabins are going through renovations currently. The indoor pool area was ok, we couldn't find the lights, but there was enough natural light from the windows to see.. but the hot tub was more like a Luke warm tub so hopefully that's on the list soon to update.

Best to make online reservations in advance as the timeslots get filled fast especially on the weekends. Option for a tandem (double) $90 for 2 people or four seater (quad) bike for $160. Hand brake is the the back on the quad... and on the right side for the tandem. Bring water, bug spray, sun screen and wear closed toed shoes. Get there 20 minutes before the start of the tour to check in and sign a wavier form, use the restrooms (2 gender neutral) and wait for instructions. The staff will go over the rules before you head out including maintaining safe distance between the bikes as these are not bumper cars. Secure your valuables in a bag that won't drop out of the basket which is location behind the seats of the bikes...especially car keys and phones. The ride is about 40-45 mins each way. After everyone is on board their respective bikes, the staff generously helps you take a picture before you head off. The staff will ride in front and in the back of the entire tour. This is a good workout.. actually not too strenuous on the legs but will definitely feel it after in the core between chest and stomach if one doesn't work out. The 1st half the ride is from Thurman Station to 1000 Acre Ranch where everyone will get a 15 minute break to go get a drink, use the restroom and/or see the animals on the ranch. In the meantime, the staff will turnaround all the bikes in preparation to head back. The bike you came on is the same back your ride back on. The ride back is just as fun and luckily had nice weather though it was a bit hot. Take plenty of pictures and enjoy the views. Will definitely come back and try a different ride for fall foliage or perhaps the same one. Hoping for nice weather again as well. Thanks to the staff for the instructions and making sure we all got back safe!

I was going to book the Log Jam but they only had a reservation at 7:45 and we would be in the area at 6:30. Luckily I found Lizzie Keays in nearby Warrensburg. I picked this place because the reviews looked promising, the website said there's live music and the menu looked good. When I walked in though, I panicked for a sec because the vibe isn't what my family is accustomed to. It's more of an old, small sleepy country town type of vibe. When our poutine appetizer arrived, my kids oooh'd and aaah'd and devoured it. Having had a ton of poutine in Canada, this one was completely different. It bad baby potatoes instead of fries and short ribs with a tasty sauce. The bread with seasoned butter was good too. So far, the food was surprisingly good. I started to relax a bit. Then our mains arrived. We each loved our food. I ordered the short ribs with pasta. The pasta had the perfect amount of roasted cherry tomato and cream, making the pasta really delicious. The short rib was tender and tasty but I do wish it had a bit of sauce. A couple of us ordered the pork ribeye and they both loved the dish. The pork was perfectly moist and tender. We also ordered the chicken parm with regular tomato sauce instead of the walnut sauce- it was also a hit. We also ordered the Black Forest chicken - it was delicious. For dessert, we ordered the hazelnut torte. It was moist and had the right amount of sweetness. Many of the dishes had walnuts in the sauce but I was happy they were able to make the chicken parm with a regular sauce instead of a walnut based sauce to accommodate severe allergies at our table. The entree prices were on the higher end but reasonable. The sides, dessert and drinks however, seemed a bit pricey. Overall, a good meal and it will be on our list of restaurants for the area. If I had to make one suggestion, it would be to change the vibe of the restaurant to match the food. The vibe is more of an old grandma-y type of place and while the music was good, it was very country. The food and its beautiful presentation, on the other hand, is slick and modern.
