Well, yeah it's gonna be a 2 star review. However if you get here early, remember to bring your own snacks, sleds, when you find lots of parking spots and not so busy... yeah, it will be a 5 star review. In general I'd say that IRON HORSE SLED HILL is good enough for YOUNG children, or people with little experience with snow that want to have fun in a short hill and your sled/tube. It's well groomed, but enter here under your own risk. In a busy day I've seen several accidents (kids bumping into each other) Besides the sled hill, there's also the TH for a good hike, snow shoeing, cross country skiing for FREE. Keep in mind dogs are not allowed, and you need to pay for your parking lot ($25 as of 2024) you can buy the parking permite right there or in advance online. There are restrooms open to public and that's it. No food vendors, so bring your own snack, meal.

Deception crags review!…read more Exit 38, aka deception crags, aka rock climbing area! There wasn't a specific page or review but there's a lot of legitimate lead climbing in this area. The climbing areas shares a parking lot with this trail head. Once you're on the rocky trail you'll see all the rock faces on the side, it's like impossible to miss. The climbing routes vary in difficulty from 5.9-5.12 and there are at least 3 areas with multiple routes in each area. The routes are fun, the rocks aren't sharp, and the standing area to belay is actually flat and not precarious. Also there are portable toilets nearby. All in all this outdoor climbing spot is a staple to seattlites.

It was a typical Washington cloudy day but the turquoise blue color of the water just looked more moody & beautiful under the grey backdrop. Very beautiful views from this lake and is a must visit for all young families. There is no hike involved to reach the lake, Parking is just beside the lakeside. We did not camp here. The weather in May can still be a little cool to camp overnight but we would be back later in the summer to camp here. There is no dedicated children playground here but there are semi -closed spaces that can work as boundaries for young kids playing. The public restroom was very dirty, I couldn't use it. My spouse did use the honey bucket that was outside the public restrooms but it was not very clean as well.

We've hiked once or so at this trail, and it's really enjoyable. On busy days though, the bathroom with a flushable can get dirty & most likely wont get cleaned till the next day. I notice they do provide port-a-pottys in addition to the restroom.

Denny Creek Waterslide 4/16…read more Easy hike through the snow along crystal clear waters. So many views to see along the way to the slide. You will want micro spikes but it is doable without. You are unable to park directly at the trailhead so you must walk the access road to the trail head which adds less than a mile extra round trip. 3.09 miles, 577 ft elevation gain, and 1 hr 20 minutes to complete.

Mirror Lake was quite serene, and on this occasion, we passed very few folks on the trail…read more The path to the trailhead is a rather long (4 miles) gravel road with lots of potholes. Parking at the lower trailhead was, unfortunately, rather haphazardly. If you have a high clearance 4x4 vehicle, there is another parking area up the path. It is a rather short trail with a nice payoff. If you walk a bit past the lake, you'll see the waterfall. There was plenty of bear grass and wildflowers on the south side past the waterfall. While you can hike a loop to the parking area by going past the waterfall into the valley area, it is mostly a rocky path with much less shade cover. It's just not as appealing as the way up. One star removed because of the long pot hole filled gravel road to the trailhead for a rather short trail.

Rachel Lake is just out and out sweet (and glacially cold, so I wouldn't recommend swimming). Upper Rampart Ridge doesn't really open up to hikers until late June or July because of all the snow it gets in the winter. I've seen some of the little lakes here still mostly covered with ice in August. The beauty is unparalleled. There are people around, but I wouldn't call it crowded. To get to the trailhead (you do need a USFS parking permit), take the Lake Kachess exit about 10 miles east of Snoqualmie Pass on I-90. The trailhead is about 7-8 miles from I-90 on a paved road that eventually turns to gravel.

We came during the end of July (around 4PM) which is the best time to see all the beautiful wildflowers. It was really hot and there's so many bugs but this area is such a pretty place to take photos. We did leave with at least five mosquito bites so make sure to come prepared with bug spray and sunscreen! This is also right across from Naches Loop Trailhead and has parking as well; can only get down to the lake by staircase so this may be a struggle for those who are disabled. The view of the mountain is so pretty and totally worth it to stop by. The trail is also not hard so very kid friendly!

Tipsoo Lake is a beautiful location full of wildflowers, evergreens, various hiking trails, and a…read moregorgeous view of Mount Rainier on a clear day. The day we went it was really foggy outside early in the day and it was just starting to clear when we were ready to leave. But check out those Rainier photos from other hikers who were fortunate to have visited on a bright day. Spectacular! Tipsoo Lake is quite small and has a walking path around it that is flat and easy to walk for hikers of all abilities. Along that path you can find a variety of flowers (including those cool Lorax kind) as well as paths leading to other trails such as Naches Peak Loop. If you head up that trail a bit from the lake, you'll come to a bridge that goes over highway 410 and that can be a nice viewing point for kids. There are a small number of parking spaces (10 to 12) in a tiny lot right off of the freeway and you may be fortunate enough to snag a spot if you arrive early. Friendly reminder to mind the signs and stay on the trail to protect the surrounding land and flowers.

Part of the trail is the PCT (pacific crest trail) which is always fun to say I've been on. Today's hike had spring vibes but summer heat. The trail has been cleared somewhat and is a single lane trail. Loads of roots and rocks on this trail. The lake is easily accessible but not many places to really sit down. Look for a log. Wear your bug spray and sunscreen and hug a tree. Enjoy nature. SYOY!
