Started out kind of rocky because I came down with a cold and bronchitis and had to cancel. Took an email and 3 voicemails before I could get rescheduled. Jim was very laid back and this course would have been fun had it not been for the female instructor named Missy. I found her to be very abrasive, arrogant and condescending. And after talking to other students afterward, it wasn't just me that felt this way. The course was very thorough and I did learn a lot, in spite of the yelling and belittling from Missy. I might also recommend waiting for a cooler season to take the course if you're not in a hurry, as it gets brutally hot on the asphalt parking lot. read more

Diddo on what several others wrote in google reviews about the way they were spoken to in class. I did make a mistake, no question about it. I braked too hard, fell over and due to not thinking clearly after that shock I tried to right the bike without first hitting the kill switch. I did hit the kill switch before trying to pick up the bike a second time. Both instructors lost their temper. Jim levied several abusive insults and then I had to endure belittling insults three more times later in front of the whole classroom! I tried to defend myself saying that even though I had experience riding that I had no prior experience spilling over. I believe I was the third person to drop a bike in that class so it must not be uncommon. Yet there was no prior instruction on what to do if you do drop a bike, i.e. step 1 hit the kill switch. Jim, instead of taking any responsibility for that omission told the class that if I never spilled before you aren't pushing your limits. What kind of non sensical logic is that? So it was also my fault for having no experience spilling over? Racing on a track, sure, but even one spill on a public road could be life threatening. I passed the class with no further problems, but my recommendation is to drive a little further if necessary for a class with respectful instructors. read more

I was recommended to use Ride Safe by Alexs at Sarasota mopeds and scooters. What a great suggestion. I had not ridden a motorcycle in 40 years and it was one of those things "I know everything". Jim and the other instructors were fantastic and I quickly learned I knew nothing from the "old days". They were very patient and very clear in their instructions and how and what to look out for on the highways. I have recommended this class to friends who have just purchased a scooter from Sarasota Mopeds and have successfully completed the course and are certified. I just completed this 2 day course to get my endorsement. I've been riding for many years but my endorsement from Michigan didn't transfer. I was worried that I had many years of bad habits that might make it difficult for me to pass this course. The instructors were amazing. Dedicated, skillful, knowledgeable and funny. We had students who had never ridden to participants like myself. They started us all from scratch and by the second day, we were all able to do the maneuvers needed to keep us safe on the road and the knowledge to pass the Florida required test. All I need to do now is take my completion card to the DMV and have them update my license for my endorsement. Highly recommend. read more

Jim and Missy were very nice and made sure we all passed in the two days they had us. Unlike other reviews I didn't feel disrespected or "bullied" at all they were fair and nice to everyone, very knowledgeable and helpful. And after your test you get a voucher for a free oil chance and safety inspection at any Sarasota motorcycle service shop so the class pays for itself you really can't go wrong here. read more

I posted this as a google review as well but I am posting it on yelp as well because of how horrible my experience was. The instructors for this course were so Incredibly rude and condescending! Everyone that I took the class with would just look at each other like "Did they really just say that?" Missy and Jim made my Basic Rider Course experience terrible. I Felt VERY disrespected by both instructors on multiple occasions. For example I had Jim ask me if I "need medication" for sitting up in between exercises and trying to fix my pants ... then proceeded to yell asking me "how old are you?" and called me a child multiple times under inappropriate circumstances. I am 22 year old guy by the way. Both instructors talked down to me and tried to berate me in front of the whole class. The conditions of the parking lot were hazardous as well, many puddles and rubble all over the place made me very nervous to ride on. Both instructors did not make me feel wanted as a customer paying almost 200$ for their service provided. DO NOT DO NOT go here for your BRC do your self a favor and go somewhere where you will be treated with respect. read more

I took this course last weekend. I've road co-pilot on my husband's bikes for years and have always been nervous to take the endorsement class by myself. I'm so happy I finally did though! Jim, Marcel, and Vic were excellent instructors and made the class fun, which relieved a lot of my anxiety. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone ;) read more

The information disseminated by these genuine experts may well be life-saving to either the novice or the seasoned biker. Charlie in particular, was supportive, experienced and coached everyone their with great tips at every exercise. He always explained why you do a skill a certain way rather than just bark orders. The academic stuff was put to bed quickly so most of the time was spent riding and actually learning real skill-sets. The book stuff then became second nature rather than just some boring highlighted passage in a text. I would highly recommend this school. read more
