Our table was last to be called to the buffet, the food was cold. We just sat down to eat and they turned the lights off, we couldn't see our food. This is a frequent date night for us- I highly recommend signing up for the birthday club and also entering to win free tickets. It seems that the Comic Strip will give away tickets if they're short of a full house, so we receive complimentary tickets often. For the most part, the comics are hilarious. There is a 2 item minimum per customer- so be aware of this. We usually will grab a bottle of wine to share and no one has told us that we need to order more- so they probably use discretion. Get in early and order, it's tricky to order once the show starts. Food is mostly fried stuff... typical pub-vibe fare. The wines are extremely overpriced, like $19 for a 9 oz, hence why we get the bottle. But, when we go for a free show; it's whatever. We will keep coming back. read more

It's been at least a decade since I've last been to this comedy strip. We took some friends and loved every minute of it. It was almost a sold out show and the comedy act was hilarious. Friday Night "Comedy is Back" show, how it's great to have a pre-Covid Friday night fun again! - Booked for a small Stag Party, where management generously offered discounted tickets and a complimentary shot for the special occasion. - Mostly young, Albertian Comedian line-up, which was perfect to allow us to put the Groom on the spotlight for marriage jokes/humor into the comedian's routines. Audience energy and engagement grew later in the night, with the help of a couple of drinks. - Food was great, and came fast and hot early in showtime: from the very shareable appetizer spreads with sauce selections to the hearty individual entree portions. - Staff were amazing: promptly cleared plates, drink checks/refills, and very friendly and courteous on special requests. Overall, an amazing night and definitely a great activity to add to any special occasion! Can't wait to see some headliner shows throughout the year. STAY AWAY - FAKE BOOZE!!!!!! I got 8 double screw drivers and drove home after the show. I was flying down the anthony henday and i got pulled over and breathalyzed. I blew under the legal amount. They made me blow 3 times. When i blew under the 3rd time the cop asked if i came from the comic strip. And when i said yes i was free to go. Whats going on? I spent $160 on fake alcohol! AND I HAVE PROOF!!!! I want my $20 per drink back! They MAKE you order 2 drinks and still rip you off wtf! Why dont they want anyone leaving with even a slight buzz. I will keep going here and investigating. This is not fair to consumers. And i have filed serious consumer reports and provincial authorities are looking into their liquor license. Are the servers scamming? Is the manager involved? Does the owner know? I went full cbc marketplace and did some digging and found an employee that works there. And boy do they have some crazy tricks going. When you order a double they put the rest in the tip jar and give you a single and do " the straw trick" (when the bartender dips the straw in alcohol to make it taste strong on first sip). The burgers at this place arnt edible everyone that orders one doesn't eat it and the staff laugh about it apparently. Next time you leave check plates for burgers its nuts. I go every week in different disguises and noone ever gets more than a bite into the burgers. The comedy host amber with the pink hair was on the side of the stage doing lunges before the show she was sooo nervous why is she the host. kept trying to be shocking like we don't care and NO ONE is laughing. Me and my buddy had such a good time tonight at Young Guns of Comedy! It was my first ever comedy show ever and I absolutely loved my experience. It was a 10/10, there was only 1 server, Dianne I think her name was, and she did such a great job serving everyone! They didn't expect such a big turnout so that's why there was only 1 server. But start to finish every comedian had really good jokes and made the audience feel like a big part of the show. I would recommend everybody at least come here and experience Young Guns of Comedy once, I guarantee you'll be hooked. Thank you for such a great experience! read more

Great customer service; my only issue is that it seems the seating is first come, first serve most often, and with so many corporate bookings, I would highly recommend that you call ahead to ensure your show isn't going to be ruined at the hands of a group that isn't there for comedy, but rather- because they got tickets from work and they're just there for the free meal and drinks. I'd like to see the club policed better, so patrons aren't talking as much. At a Sarah Tiana show, I came in early and was moved because my seats were reserved for a corporate group, resulting in awful seats for us. To make matters worse, several corporate groups were attending and they were all on their phones, talking to each other and not paying attention in the least. I could barely hear the comic and I actually felt bad for her that they didn't help her out. Good club overall. Some nice bookings. Will continue to support. read more

We went on a Friday night, comics were all great... it's even funnier when u can relate to what they are talking about!..Food was great had the egg rolls, my friend had the wings something we could munch on through the show..Bathrooms were clean and updated... Hmm so you stand out front in a small area with a bar and drink an expensive beer or highball (no wine) while you wait for the doors to open. We were seated relatively fast when the doors did open. Our server was friendly and she did come around quite often, so that was nice. I found the drinks expensive - $8.25 for a sleemans beer. $11.50 for a glass of wine. My husband said we are just old and don't get out much and the drinks are average priced, lol. We ordered the BBQ chicken flat bread and it was pretty good actually. Also pricey tho. The host was funny and the opening act was hilarious. The headliner was entertaining but not hilarious like the opener. I enjoyed the evening but it wasn't the best comedy show I've been to. Update: Thank you to Rick B. And David F. for the tickets to another show! We had a 5 star night! The venue was quite a bit cooler/ more comfortable this time around which was perfect as it warmed up a bit over the course of the show but it wasn't hot at all. The service was spot on! We both enjoyed a couple drinks and shared an absolutely delicious turtle cheesecake (you want this). Our server checked back quietly several times but she was not disruptive or distracting in the least bit. Last but certainly not least...everyone from the host, opening act to Des Bishop (the headliner) was absolutely hilarious! Thanks for the great night!!! I can't wait to come back! If we had a choice of half stars this would be a 3 1/2star review. When we arrived we had to wait in line to be seated in spite of the fact we had pre-purchased tickets. They seated everyone at basically the same time. No one really looked at my ticket either...I could have probably flashed my Epcor bill and gotten in that way too! Lol! The venue was uncomfortably hot and stuffy, it took a LONG time to get served and even longer for the drinks to arrive. Today was peroggies and beer. I opted for a dinner from the main menu. Had the beef brisket burger and it was great. Not much to the sides. 16$. More there for the company of friends and show. Who doesn't love a good comedy club?! I've been to The Comic Strip a couple times and I always leave still chuckling. I always sit near the back if given the choice because every comedian I've seen there has picked on the people in the front (just as every good comedian does). I prefer to sit back an d observe, rather than be part of the show. The food we had was actually pretty good too. I had the Fiesta Salad and it was good. It was a taco salad to put it plainly. Then I had the New York Cheesecake. You can't go wrong with cheesecake. The best part was that I got to choose the topping for my cheesecake - strawberry, chocolate or caramel. I chose strawberry AND chocolate! It was delicious! The comedy is always good at The Comic Strip. I've found bits and pieces of it to be offensive at times but that's to be expected with stand up. It's a cool place. Check it out if you get the chance. It's a great alternative to a movie on a week night or even the weekend. read more

I went with a group of about 15 for a staff party. Most people in my group were over the age of 40. The comedians were, for the most part, extremely crude. Unnecessarily so. Also, if we are paying to be entertained, then we shouldn't be the entertainment. Asking audience members very loudly about their sex lives....very explicitly. That isn't what we pay for. The food was decent but not anything spectacular. Most came from a frozen food bag. read more

One of the worst customer experiences I've ever experienced. It's printed on tickets to show up an hour early to get seated, so this what I did. I was still waiting in line when my show was scheduled to start and the previous show was just letting out. I requested a refund and was met with a lot of attitude and condescension from management. They were not all apologetic for the having wasted so many people's time. The ticket that had already cost $33 also requires that you purchase a minimum of one food/drink per ticket. The food and drinks here are really sub par, so its not something I enjoy being forced to do. Overall, a terrible experience. I would never go back, no matter how good the act is. read more

They do get excellent comics in here. My wife and I will often go here when we visit Edmonton for a fun night out. They really need to revamp their menu, as it's the real simple bar food. Lots of deep fried items. However, they do do an ok job of them. If you're ordering drinks, but sure to get the premium liquor - their house brands (gin was what i was having) is surprisingly crappy. I'd really like to see a decent wine list - doesn't have to be fancy, but just a selection of a dozen affordable wines so my wife and I can have a bottle with the show. I was re-introduced to the Comic Strip this year, after not going in probably 10 years. My friend is a local comedian & invited me out to check out a show. My first show was seeing Piff the Magic Dragon. I had watched him on America's Got Talent, and I was THRILLED when I hear he was coming to Edmonton. He was here for a week, with 12 SOLD out shows. I got to see him on his last night, it was a real treat and he was hilarious. The venue has certainly changed for the years & for the better! They are still in the process of renovations, but things are looking great. Service was very good. Last night I ordered some food & I really enjoyed the appetizers. Nice updated menu, not your typical comedy club/bar menu & I enjoyed that. We had a very large group coming in (20) to see the last night of Bobby Lee in town. Tickets were a little pricey (roughly $35) but what was rare (at least for me) was we had four acts plus the opener by the host. What was really comfortable with this comedy club was we actually had the chance to sit all together which was nice. Unfortunately for our friend, he sat a little too close to the stage and was picked on even by Bobby himself. Hilarity ensued. What I found very impressive was drink/food service given the crowd was very prompt. Tabs were started and I didn't even have to hunt down any staff for my credit card/license after: bills were distributed near the end of the last act to avoid mass customers trying to pay and exiting. Even more impressive was staff were lenient with hecklers. I'm all for crowd interactions but when people drink a little too much and have been smoking some contraband, they do tend to get rowdy. I'm glad to see them step in to shut down potential troublemakers after repeated instances. the majority of the comics were quite funny with the exception of the opener which stunk up the joint. I don't think I even got a chuckle out of the opener who gave a ten minute bit on how to please a woman. What was a bonus treat for the party was long after many patrons left, we stuck around and got a chance to speak and take pictures with the surprisingly quiet and shy Bobby after he came out. Pro tip: Don't sit near the front if you don't want to get picked on. Don't make eye contact or wear anything that draws attention. It was a brutal onslaught of jokes at the expense of my friend. My mom was in town visiting for the long weekend and so I thought it would be a good idea to take her out for nice dinner and a few laughs at a comedy club. I called the Comic Strip to order the tickets over the phone and was told about their deal where if you order an entrée before 7:00pm they will give you complimentary door tickets to another show. I thought this was a pretty good deal so I got everyone together and went there for dinner and the show. We all ordered something different. A fish and chips dish, a pizza, a ribeye steak, and a rib plate. None of us were very impressed with our orders. The ribeye steak was not a ribeye and it was simply laughable that they would try to pass off that piece of meat as a ribeye to a group of Albertans who know their beef! The pizza I ordered was fairly good but loaded down with so much tomato sauce it wasn't funny! All of us agreed that the food was more standard pub food that was meant more to cater to the drunken masses than anyone else. The prices certainly did not make up for the meal either as the ribeye steak was $23. Just what you would expect to pay for a ribeye steak except it wasn't a ribeye steak! We were happy to get the complimentary tickets but won't be going back for the dinner next time. The ambience of the club was great and just what you would expect for a comedy club. Well lit, good sound system, and great view from almost every seat. It's a great idea to get there early so you can have your choice of seat and not get too close to the stage! The comics we saw were great! I didn't care much for a local girl that was on stage but I did laugh with some of her jokes. Not really complaining I just found her a little too vulgar and her humor wasn't really my style. The headliner was hilarious and we were all splitting our guts laughing so hard. Have been to this comedy club a few times. They book a decent line up of comedians. The bigger names will sell out so book your tickets early. Easy to do online. There is no set seating when you buy your tickets. So show up early for the show to get a good spot. When the room is fully booked you may even have to share a table with others. The food is not their strong point. Very average. We usually plan extra time to eat somewhere else in the mall before the show. Busy nights also may slow down the drink service, so just order 2 when the server comes by. read more

Been here a couple times already, once for a charity fundraiser and another time to catch a show. They have a good and constant line-up of events here with a mix of starter comedians and some really big names. It's worth it to check once in awhile who's playing next. My first time here wasn't so great. They were hosting a charity auction but the event ended up starting an hour and a half late. The kitchen closed early around 7pm, so we were starving while the host was desperately trying to stall for time. We ended up leaving early because we were so hungry! My second visit was much better than the first. We came to see Bobby Lee, who didn't disappoint. It's true when they say not to sit close to the front, because you will get picked on! Best to sit in the back or on the sidelines. The food is your typical basic bar/pub food, fries and nachos, things like that. It's kind of hard snagging down the staff for orders or refills once the show starts, but wave them down and it should be okay. Acoustics are extremely important for a place like this, and the sound quality for the Comic Strip is up to par. If you can't hear anything it's either because you're not paying attention or you're too drunk. It's a great option for something to do on a free night or special occasion. I'm a huge fan of comedy being that I have two parents who both do stand up . I enjoy the comedy alway here but the service and food stinks ! I went on a Tuesday night and my guest and I both received cold fries and Luke warm chicken burgers .... very dissatisfied! They did replace the fries after we sat there for 5 minutes before we were asked how the food was....but the burgers they did not . I don't understand why our table had to pay 20% gratitude when our service and food sucked! I understand there's a policy but if you want 20% you better have your game on ! I went here the other night to celebrate a friend's birthday. While the comedians were entertaining, I've had a better time at other comedy clubs. First off, the venue is incredibly cramped. I felt bad for the poor waitresses who had to manoeuvre between the tables. It also felt somewhat claustrophobic. I prefer to have a little more distance between tables. Secondly, they don't pause between the acts, even for a five minute conversation. I feel like they'd sell more food and drinks if you had a brief moment to reflect between them. It almost felt like you were being rushed out to prepare for the next sitting. Also, last call is about half an hour before the show ends which I suppose makes sense for their logistics but is kind of confusing when you are attending an early performance. Overall I had a good time. We were lucky to see a really funny headliner. I would definitely go back for a well known act, but I could see the Comic Strip being really disappointing with someone less impressive. read more

I was surprised to see all the previous acts that have rolled through this venue. But now that I know about this place I'm more likely to keep on top of future guests. I've been to pretty much all of the comedy venues in Edmonton, and this one is by far the largest of them all with a much greater seating capacity than any of the others around the area. I visited the Comic Strip and was impressed with how efficient the team is at getting you seated and ready for the show. The tables are well set up for everyone to see the show easily and the staff are quick to come by and get you set up with drinks and food if you want it. The menu offers a typical variety of bar food, which unfortunately we didn't try on the night we were there, though the food we saw on other tables around us looked good. In order to start a tab you have to either give your ID card or credit card, which is not common in restaurants these days, but given the large size of the venue, you can understand why it may be necessary. All in all, it was a great night and we'll definitely be back. read more

Well.. we should have planned to have a sober night out, because even though the tickets were free (we got them from his boss) the drinks were outrageously priced. I really enjoyed the night out we had here for a birthday. The comics were funny, though the opening acts were better than the headliner, and the MC was better than all of them! The service for food and drink were excellent- our waitress was attentive but not obtrusive or distracting. The only real downside was that there was a group there from a Christmas party that were beyond drunk. A drunk man near us was talked to by staff after one outburst. These people talked the entire time, shouted the entire night, and did a very poor job of heckling, if you could call it that. It wasn't the comic strip's fault that Jen and the rest of the lubricant company decided to show up, but they could have addressed the behaviour like they did with others. Came here over the holidays. Shouldn't have come on amateur night (or as they call it, Hit or Miss). Only one out of the 7 or so performers were any good. I think we laughed uncomfortably more than anything else until the last comic. Drinks were expensive, and no debit. Usually I wouldn't complain about this, however the debit machine was even down in the hall. Ugh. The headliner had us laughing so hard our bellies hurt. I think the only thing that I would have to comment on was the friendliness of our server. She was very busy (had two of the front tables - about 15 people each) but she was not very friendly and everything felt extremely rushed with her. We didn't get to order a couple rounds of drinks because she would order from one end of our table, and avoid eye contact and leave. Other than the lack of service, it was a great time as always. Went on Saturday night for the 9:45 show to see the headliner Bob Marley. Arrived early and had a drink before the doors opened. As we were ushered we were asked whether we wanted to sit on the main floor or up a bit further in the back. Really appreciated that! The servers were friendly and the service was quick for the amount of people in there! Being DD it was nice that they did not charge for a glass of water. (Thank you!) Had an amazing time on Saturday night! I originally got tickets for the late Friday show. I forgot I already had a previous event that night. I called and they changed it to the Saturday show for me without any problems! We got there early and were near the front of the line. When the doors opened the staff was extremely friendly and gave us options on where we would like to sit. The drinks are a little pricey and they don't take debit inside the room. So bring cash as the ATM is also expensive. The headliner was amazing and had us laughing throughout. One of the best parts was the host. He was very funny and started the show off great and kept it going throughout the night. All the acts were great and there wasn't a dull moment. All in all it was a perfect night. I booked a work christmas party for 20 people. We had decent seats and the door staff we friendly and helpful. The comics were, for the most part, excellent. One I found to be a bit vulgar for a christmas party booking. This review reflects only on the venue and NOT the entertainment.. The music was overly loud making dinner conversation difficult at best. The food was excellent. We had a buffet meal, and it was well prepared, had a great variety, and there was plenty of it. (The roast beef specifically was delicious) The wait staff was, at best, poor. Either they did not have enough staff on hand, of they felt that because we were being charged an 18% FEE for choosing thier venue, they were not required to provide decent service. It was a challenge to get even a glass of water, as it was as if the wait staff ignored us after we got our food. It took nealy the entire meal for one person to get a coke, and we had to ask three times to get coffee. Our employer bought us some wine, and said hed also cover coffee. The wait staff took this quite literally and charged some individuals seperatly for the tea (as well as nearly $4 for a single glass of coke) they also added thier 18% FEE (It is NOT a gratuity if it is manditory) They do not accept debit, which was not clearly noted, but only take credit and cash, but had a broken ATM. For our staff, not expecting to have to pay for a cup of tea, found this a surprise, as well as an inconvenience. While overall it was an enjoyable night (thanks to the comedians) we will not return next year, nor can I, in good concince ever reccomend this venue for a group event booking. read more

On Oct 16th, my wife and I attended a special performance. The show was fantastic, however the service was sub-par at best. The waitress spilled food on my wife and did not attempt to help clean up, and our desserts came out prior to our entrees (which were cold by the time they arrived) late into the show. We made an attempt to give a "poor" review privately through their email on Oct 22nd, but have yet to hear back from them. I have heard this is common practice here... where they ask only for positive reviews to be posted on social media, and the negative reviews get sent to an email where they aren't followed up. read more
