We were on vacation with a sick 2-year old daughter. Our pediatrician at home (who we had called…read moreperiodically) finally asked that we take our daughter into an acute/urgent care center to be looked at. For a variety of reasons, we chose to go to the local hospital (Incline Village Community Hospital -- separate review to come). It was at the hospital that we met Dr. Higgins. This review is less about Dr. Higgins' competence with the subject of out visit (it was excellent) and more about how she treated us and our daughter. First, Dr. Higgins was extremely slow and gentle with our daughter. During her very through examination of our 2-year old (which involved lots of abdominal probing), our 2-year old never backed away or cried. Dr. Higgins found us in the exam room with our daughter on my shoulder and rather than force my daughter to move to the exam table, Dr. Higgins conducted as much of the exam as possible with our daughter on my shoulder. Most importantly, however, Dr. Higgins constantly told my daughter WHAT she was about to do and then waited until that statement registered with my daughter -- it was almost like D. Higgins was "asking permission" from my daughter for each poke and prod. Next, and equally important, was how Dr. Higgins treated my wife and me. First, some background to give context to this part of this review. My family is -- well -- not mainstream. Our daughter was a midwife assisted home-birth and has not been subjected to the full-array of immunizations. In addition, in a recent doctor's visit for ear pain (with a doctor that was substituting for our normal pediatrician), antibiotics were prescribed for what this stand-in doctor said "might" be an ear infection -- we never administered those antibiotics (and the pain disappeared the next day -- antibiotics weren't needed). As you can tell, my wife and I do not blindly follow traditional western medicine and thus, needless to say, we are a "challenge" to traditional western medical professionals. Nevertheless, Dr. Higgins took each "nonstandard answer" with grace and equanimity. Please understand that my wife and I are NOT used to mainstream doctors reacting with anything other than condescension and judgment. In stark contrast, Dr. Higgins was wonderful with us -- clearly working outside her comfort zone and expanding her exam to include lots of possibilities that are typically ruled out in fully immunized kids. Second, my wife and I are -- some would say -- over-educated. And as a result, we ask LOTS of quesions. Dr. Higgins seemed not just tolerant of the questions but genuinely pleased that we were so interested in each minute detail of the possible medical problems, their diagnostic indicators / counter-indicators, treatments, and risks. I could go on, but I'll leave this review here. Dr. Higgins gets 5 stars in our book.

In 2010 I was named Guardian of a brother and sister that had been warehoused in a Skilled Nursing Facility, but should not have been there. I moved them to an Assisted Living Facility in Carson City and they forced me to choose a Doctor for them. I was given two choices and I picked well as I hired Dr. Robert Fliegler. Dr. Fliegler cared for them, but worked with me devising a plan to move the "Wards" home with 24 hour care. The quality of life and improvement of their cognitive abilities were dumb founding and a major credit must go to Dr. Fliegler in encouraging the move, training of staff, and making regular visits including coming to all parties so he could see how my "Wards" were really doing. The family, the staff, and especially me can't compliment Dr. Fliegler enough for his care. I then hired Dr. Fliegler to be my physician after a major medical issue. I still use Dr. Fliegler even though I live 500 miles from him as he is just a text or phone call away. Dr. Fliegler has seen me through so much and now I am the healthiest I have been in the last 25 years. I have been with Dr. Fliegler since 2010. After Dr. Fliegler helped me, I hired him to take care of my wife who had just gone through cancer surgery and had a stroke during the surgery. I said it at her memorial and I say it here, that Dr. Fliegler added years of quality life to her in spite of indecision by her two oncologist that would have allowed her to pass the first year. The incredible part of Dr. Fliegler is that the specialist look upon him as their equal, their resource, and he is always part of the conversation whether it be cancer, renal failure, heart issues, or whatever.

I once had an appointment, procedure, diagnosis and treatment plan all completed in less than 3 hours. Dr. Fliegler goes out of his way to get testing, scans and/or treatments done respectfully quick. I could never go back to waiting months to be seen and then feeling like a number on a board that doctors spend a few minutes on and then moving on to the next patient. Dr. Fliegler is my family physician and will be as long as possible. If you want a Doctor that listens, cares and has your best health and interests at heart, Dr. Fliegler is your Physician. I asked for a refund and they denied it but offered me a $50 refund. I accepted but I had already triggered the bill pay because the refund offer didn't come for three months. I was making payments and they said they would adjust the payment schedule. they didn't. Now they owe me that $50 refund they offered and billing has ignored me for almost two months. One young man in billing hung up on me and I suspect he is responsible for the failed attempt at my refund. My doctor was terrible. Very unprofessional! After this long a time trying to get my refund, I have to say thay are a practice without integrity and downright dishonest.
