I got my hair colored and cut here for the first time. The girl who did my hair was friendly and helpful. However, I feel like the color really didn't change much. Since she's a professional stylist, my hair was styled in a way (when it was done) that I could never do by myself so it made it look nice at the time. But I noticed after I showered and tried styling it, both the color and cut looked pretty much the same, wasn't worth the large amount of money I paid for it. Also my biggest concern - the stylist suggested I get some kind of deep conditioning before coloring my hair. I didn't think anything of it, but I have no idea what was used in my hair because a few days later I started noticing that my hair was excessively greasy, piecey/stringy, and irritated. Turns out whatever they used on me I might have had some reaction to it, which is not the salon's fault necessarily, but they screwed up my scalp. I now have to see a dermatologist and get treatments put in my scalp and it's STILL not fixed. It looks horrible everyday. I have cried and complained since that day and it's been about two months. I'm extremely pissed. My hair is completely ruined. Would love to know what treatment they put in my hair because my scalp is so bad and painful. Sorry, but would not go back here. Sad to see some of the specific scenarios where clients had a bad experience. I came in with multiple shades of red/brown left in my hair from home coloring (college experimentation days). The original hair dresser I had, name no longer known, was great! They are a very welcoming and warm group of people. Their customer service skills are top notch. I now go to see Melissa when I'm in town and have not one complaint. She always remembers who I am (even if it's been months) and takes care of my hair from start to finish. I saw Nelofar and she is an extremely talented stylist, also very warm and friendly. I've never had a better coloring done on my hair! I have long hair in very tight curls, so getting a rich-looking color done right can be a challenge, but Nelofar managed to make it vibrant and very natural looking at the same time. Cutting curly hair can also be tricky, but Nelofar did a great job and I plan to come back. The salon itself was great, good customer service, and the Arrojo products are very impressive. I love this salon and think their customer service is amaze. Everyone is very sweet and they make sure your comfortable. I see Kelsie who I adore. When I first met her she spent a very long time consulting with me. They are up on all the trends and are professional but most importantly, talented. Kelsie is really talented and I can't wait to see how she grows as her knowledge grows, as Richard sends his employees for hair classes in the city. Love it here. I always thought I wanted to get my hair done at expensive NYC salon, but now that I have moved to NYC I travel back to smithtown to get my hair done. I took my daughter here for both her proms and had a wonderful experience. I unfortunately can't remember the name of the stylist but she did a wonderful job. We explained that my daughters hair does not hold curls well and we wanted the look to last because on other occasions curls came out of her hair within an hour of leaving the salon, she used all the right products and made sure her hair was not going to move( which it didn't) all without making her hair stiff with lots of hairspray. read more

With so many years experience and owning this salon it was still an absolutely horrendous haircut . Choppy and uneven . Went back , he looked at it and gave me my money back . I have been going here for years. Started out with a recommendation from a coworker after I complained that I always ask for two inches off and I lose 6 instead at other places. I only trust Richard to cut my hair but have had my hair styled by multiple girls and it always comes out great. I started off with only simple cuts not a lot off and Richard listened, I didn't walk out upset there was too much gone. Last time I went I tried a new look with him because I trust him and that is what you need in salon. A place you trust and know you will walk out happy. It is expensive but any where else I went prior they didn't know how to cut my thick long curly hair. I can ask Richard anything about my hair and he always eases my mind/gives good advice. It is worth the money knowing your hair is in good hands. read more

I have never written a review before. I am a person that is very uncomfortable in hair salons. I always feel insecure and judged. I wanted to write this to all the people like me, and I know you are out there. This is a really nice place with a really down to earth, kind staff. I actually enjoy going there, which is a bit of a miracle. My stylist, Diana, is an amazing, empathetic person that takes her time and really listens to you and what you want out of a color or style. I have a difficult color to maintain and it always comes out beautifully. The owner, Richard, is always around and always greets all the clients. The staff is not full of negative gossip like many places I have gone. I wish I could give them 6 stars. read more

had the worst experience of my life with this salon. So disappointing because they seem to have great reviews and a positive reputation. I was quoted a price of $160 for a set of highlights I saw on Instagram for cris_theharicrafter. I sent her a picture of what I wanted she told me no problem and I was excited because all of the pictures she posted were very nice work. I SPENT 5 hours there and my hair came out completely wrong. While I was sitting under the dryer I saw they were advertising all the stylist work and I noticed they were all the pictures on Instagram that Cris claimed she did. She was fraudulently posting the work of her co workers and she couldn't even live up to the pictures. to top it all off I went to pay and the women at the register argued with me about the price of highlights. I was quoted in writing $160 she said that the price was $190 even after I showed her that "cris_thehaircrafter" told me it would be $160. Then I asked for 1 inch and she barely cut off a centimeter but charged me $50 for that also. so $242 later and my hair look the exact same a what I walked in with. I cried all weekend about my hair and I'll let everyone know that this salon doesn't deserve your business, they care amount your money but not your satisfaction. read more

It was my second time at the salon. My appointment was at 10 am and was started on time. The Christmas carols were playing in the background and while my color was on I closed my eyes and had the sun shining on my face, I was so relaxed. My hair stylist is Diana and she does the most amazing job with color and cut. I recommend this salon and the products are great too. Thanks for the best experience and my end results!!!!! I went into Richards to donate my hair. I was greeted by warm friendly faces and was promptly seated and my coat taken. Taylor was my stylist and was incredibly friendly. I'm used to having old Italian guys cut my hair and usually my ears with it but Taylor was a pro. They even offered me coffee while they rinsed my hair. I felt so relaxed I could have easily Fallen asleep in that chair. At the end my hair was clean and trimmed and I felt contoured to my head and face well. This was the first salon I been too it is recommended to anyone who's looking for more then just a hair cut but rather an experience. read more

The hairstylist was a nice person but unfortunately I hated the cut. After telling her that I don't usually put product in my hair, I just blowdry it, I thought she would get the idea that I am not too concerned with volume. I don't even object to a little bit of product, but she put SO much product in my hair that I left looking like a volumized puffball. I was hoping for a short straight layered angled look that is longer in front and shorter in back. We discussed that I wanted the front longer, and I told her that the front could pretty much stay it's original length. I just wanted shorter in back but instead she cut it pretty much even all around. So instead of an angled layered look I came out with a round circle look with a little layering. The cut was an average quality, and she was professional, but ultimately I was really embarrassed by how I looked when I left the salon. I feel she just didn't take my words into consideration enough. read more

This place is absolutely inconsiderate and my haircut was horrible. I went in for a hair cut and a dye. I wanted blue in my hair and I have extremely dark brown hair. I went in and the hairdresser who did my hair was kind but she messed up the entire bleaching process and had to do it twice in one day, on top of the fact she then was putting the blue dye into my hair. The blue dye never took to my hair and I left crying, the owner looked at me and told me it looked fine, basically saying get over it. I came back the next week to get it fixed - for free thank goodness and they still messed it up. They had to re bleach it and then when they went to put the blue dye in my hair they ran out and made me sit in the chair to wait until someone went out and bought more dye to come back and finish putting it into my hair. It was a horrible experience and an absolutely terrible result for such an expensive price. read more

Every word of accolades from the LI Press is true...this is truly the best salon on Long Island. My mom has been searching for years for a stylist who knows how to handle fine/limp blonde hair and cut stylish layers. She finally found one...Toni at Richard Salon. Tony is amazing! She spends time listening to what the client likes/doesn't like, how much time the client wants to spend on styling (or doesn't!) and feeling the texture of the client's hair and how it moves naturally. That sounds easy but its amazing how many stylists out there give good lip service during the consult and then simply can't execute on the cut and the style. Toni was phenomenal. She listened, she asked for feedback and she meticulously cut (with a razor) layers like a pro! She was unbelievably professional, patient, competent and sweet (as was the whole staff). And she doesn't rush her clients out of her chair like so many salons do. I will recommend this salon to all my friends on Long Island and we will become regular customers! read more
