It's crazy to see that I'm not the only one to have the exact same right nostril issue after getting a rhinoplasty from Dr. Clark. During the next 10 years after the procedure my septum slowly collapsed and I had to have an ENT repair it. The ENT said it is unfortunately common that they have to repair work from a plastic surgeon. They've fixed the back end, but the nose tip still bends left almost identical to the pictures below. I'm incredibly self conscious about it and hate most pictures taken of me head on because you can see it bend. I am getting a consult from another surgeon next month who I hope can fix the tip and give me my confidence back. Dr. Clark may do good body work but do not see him for your face! read more

If you are considering plastic surgery don't go to Dr. Clark. He does poor quality work and has a horrible attitude. He is on a major ego trip and doesn't believe his work could be anything but perfect. I went to him for rhinoplasty (nose) work. I should have heeded the bad feelings I was getting from his office. There is no communication or organization amongst his staff. I woke up during the operation (I could feel them working on me) and I heard them arguing about not having the right type of suture material. After the bandages were removed and the swelling went down I could see the bad results. The nose had to be redone. I complained about the bad results. He told me what the revision would cost. This amount was more then twice what he told me a revision would cost during the initial consult. I reminded him of his quote. His reply to tell me was that he could charge what ever he wanted. His attitude about my complaint and re-doing the work was best summed up by his words, "I don't owe you anything." Severely botched. The past two years have been horrifying. The pain post-op was insurmountable and the surgery took twice as long as we were told it would take (what the hell happened in that surgery room??) The results are SO MUCH worse than before. I didn't even have any severe issues before, I just needed a slight lift of my tip and shaving on the bridge. I can no longer breathe out of my right nostril. I had rhinoplasty with Dr. Clark in 2007 and he told me he couldn't change the curve in my nose or the size of my nostrils - so I thought that it couldn't be done at all. I spent the last 13 years unhappy with my results because my nose was still bigger than I wanted. I had a second rhinoplasty done by Dr. Kimberly Henry one month ago and she fixed the curve in my nose and made my nostrils smaller! I really wish I had known how limited Dr. Clark was in his abilities and not just accepted a partial nose job. I got 2 face lifts by Dr Clark. He's extremely good. He was so good that about 10 years after the 1st one I went to him for the 2nd one. Again, zero problems. For the 3rd one I had moved to WA. Had a 3rd face lift done by a doctor who, despite the amount of money I paid, didn't want to sew my face back together. He was going to staple it. Since I was having the incision done just outside the hairline, I wanted the invisible stitches that Dr. Clark could make. The 3rd Dr agreed to sew up the incision. He used an OVERHAND stitch. I still have the scar, 10 years later. Back to Dr Clark: He also did reconstructive surgery of my nose/cheek after I had a Mohs procedure done to remove a skin cancer on the side of my nose. The incision went from about a half inch SE of my left eye, up to the lower lid, below the hairline to the nose, down the side of the nose through the Mohs incision, and ended in my left nasolabial fold. After it healed, a minimal scar was visible (to me) where the Mohs surgery had been, and the rest of the incision was invisible. I never had any visible scars from Dr Clark's face lifts. read more

Woke up during surgery (he didn't care) left me in the hall uncovered with blood and saline coming out of the holes from lipo and left the building. I came in to get a rhinoplasty and I was pleasantly surprised that Dr. Clark was able to fix my deviated septum as well. I had primary rhinoplasty in 2007. Since then I have had three revision surgeries in an attempt to correct the first botch job and my nose still isn't right. The first rhinoplasty I had extensive scar tissue around my nostril which caused it to heal incorrectly. The stitches were removed too early - which Dr. Clark admitted to. Dr. Clark attempted to fix this 3 times, each time ripping out the stitches and then restitching the nostril. One of those times the anesthesia ran out and I had tears streaming down my face from the pain. The second revision was to shave down a small bump. He admitted (AGAIN) that he shaved too much off and I was left with NO bridge. Also the valves in my nose collapsed and I could NOT breathe. I had to PAY for the third revision surgery!! Now I have a visible bone implant and a slope (after stupidly having him perform the third revision) - WHICH I DID NOT WANT. How can he charge me for HIS MULTIPLE mistakes??? How is that ethical? Also, I ended up being AWAKE for the revision and begging the nurse for more pain killer - I still have nightmares. I do not recommend at ALL. I had a procedure done 10 days ago, Sept 16th 2013. Swelling is 80% gone and I am so happy! My initial office visit is what sold me. Yes it didn't happen at the exact scheduled time. I later learned that he would spend same quality time with me as he did with the last person. I'm very thankful he did, because 45 mins into it there was more that needed to be looked at. Who cares about time anyhow, its our body rite! Suck it up and be patient. He does not sugar coat things, and gives valid expectations/warnings. He was very calculated in his evaluations. I did rhynoplasty with Dr. Clark twice . Changing the nose was a bit scary for me. When Dr. Clark suggested rotating my tip up i was too scared to go too high. I decided to make it go up just a bit. i really didnt want too look like michael jackson nose. After a year of initial surgery i realized I really should have listened to Dr. Clark in the first place ! i went in the second time and I am extremly pleased with the result. He really knows the NOSE. He knows how to make your nose to fit your face and look nice and pretty. he botched my nose back in 2016. please do not trust him and do your research. His work is not good when it comes to removing humps. As I'm typing this, I have difficulty breathing through BOTH my nostrils, since 2016. I've relied on my mouth to breathe, so I'm now a mouth breather. He was supposed to fix my deviated septum, and remove the hump on my nose. However, he shaved off my hump too much, it now "scoops" and it collapsed something inside, which now I cannot breathe through my nose 100%. At my post-op, I let him know about the breathing, and I also said how the hump was too much, and now my nose "scoops" and the bulb is too big. He grabbed my "before" photo, and almost yelled at me, "do you prefer THIS?" (referring to my "before" photo). For the breathing, he said it would have to be a 2nd surgery, and he would not charge for his services, but I would have to pay for the facility. I said HELL NO. I am not trusting him a 2ND time with my nose. I only had 1 post-op with him, he never followed up with me again after that. If you need a rhinoplasty, please go to someone else. I did a lot of research to find Dr.Clark. You can't just go to anyone to get your nose done especially if there is an existing issue. Dr. Clark fixed my severely damaged nose and I honestly can't believe it turned out as beautiful as it did. My old nose looked like a dog chewed on it, but now you'd never know there was ever anything wrong. My nose is absolutely perfect and doesn't look fixed at all. His after care is amazing too, he and his staff are incredibly attentive and helpful, making sure everything goes well with the healing process too. My son is in the NFL so I'm in a lot of pictures and on TV sometimes. We all age but a bit of refining at any age is what we deserve!! Dr. Richard Clark is one of the finest plastic surgeons that you will find anywhere in the USA. Credentials and experience are of the utmost importance when searching for a surgeon and of course the quality of procedures. It's so shocking the amount of surgeons that aren't even board certified in procedures that they perform at your risk. I've had work done by Dr. Clark in the past which was amazing!! Unfortunately I just broke my nose which is so stressful! We discussed my nose and he actually went a bit smaller than he recommended and IT IS JUST SO PRETTY!! All done without cutting my nose open as most surgeons do! I've sent many people to his office over the years and I say don't let anyone else else touch your face as they cut corners which Dr. Clark will not do. I see women all the time with tight as a drum faces and I feel so sorry for them, my husband calls them "stretchers". I plan on having a couple more little things done and no one else will I entrust my life with but Dr. Clark. Plastic surgery is serious and things can go wrong. Make the right decision your very life could depend on it. The office staff is very educated and warm. You may have a bit of a wait time but its so very worth it. Dr. Clark did my 1990 facelift and made me beautiful! I couldn't believe how skilled he was. A couple of years later he did my arm flaps. Used STAPLES, a couple which came loose. I put the incision back together with bandaids. Went to see him and he agreed that it was a lousy job (maybe he'd never done arm flaps before?) and he'd do it over, but I'd have to pay the $750 operating room charge. That pissed me off, so I didn't have it done. The scars were noticeable. But a few years after that I had Mohs surgery on the side of my nose. The Mohs surgeon said he could put me back together, but I wanted Dr. Clark. The scar runs from outside the outside corner of my eye, down under the eye, turns and goes down the side of my nose, and into the nasolabial fold. You CANNOT SEE the scar except on the side of my nose, and it's not really noticeable. I'm amazed. He did my 2nd facelift in '98. I don't remember anything remarkable about it either way, except I again looked younger. I've had a 3rd facelift since then, by someone else (because I moved). This "doctor" tried to get by with stapling my forehead back onto my face. I demanded that he sew the incision together. He did -- with an overhand stitch that left me looking like Frankenstein -- and he was supposed to be the best in Seattle. Dr. Clqrk did my facelifts under light sedation. Sometimes I was awake enough to joke with them. All other plastic surgeons I've talked to insist on my being completely knocked out. But I'm susceptible to Post-Surgical Cognitive Dysfunction (to the point where I tried to kill myself after knee surgery). I can't do whole-brain anesthesiology any more. I'm hoping Dr. Clark will agree to do me another facelift using light sedation. Yes, I would travel 750 miles because I trust his work. He's an artist besides. A legend in his own mind. Two stars because he does get it right sometimes, but in my opinion, it's not worth the risk. You're gambling when you put your face and body in Dr. Clark's hands. You might get good results, and some have. But his work is inconsistent and he makes many mistakes. He talks about what a perfectionist he is, but if there is a problem with the final result he quickly changes that tune. 1993 (approx): Breast augmentation surgery. It took 2 revisions to get it right. The first surgery I ended up with one nipple much lower than the other. When I told him that wasn't acceptable, he said 'Everyone is a little asymmetrical.' That's a far cry from the perfectionist talk he'll give during the consult. I had him redo the surgery, and for whatever reason, he put more saline in one implant. Nipples were even, but one breast was larger than the other. Not just a little, but a lot. He redid the surgery again, finally getting it right the third time. And I had to pay for the operating room expenses each time. 2008 (approx): Chin Implant. After the surgery I complained of numbness on one side of my lower lip and chin. I described how it felt like an electric current when touched. His comment 'I've never seen that before.' 6 months down the road and not only is it still numb, the implant seems to be shifting. There are large gaps between the implant and the bone, and one side is now lower than the other. One side of my mouth droops when I say certain vowels. Go back to see him and he gives me the old 'Everyone is a little asymmetrical.' Funny, I thought one of the reasons for plastic surgery was to correct asymmetries. I've seen him at least 3 times since then regarding the numbness, and every time he acted like he had no clue what the problem could be. Just so happens I recently found an example of chin numbness just like mine, and was shocked to find that the diagnosis is straight out of Plastic Surgery 101. Chin implants, especially when placed through the mouth, can impinge the mental nerve. When this occurs, the implant should be removed and replaced. In extreme cases the nerve can be severed. This is something any plastic surgeon performing chin implant surgery should be well aware of. I may now have permanent damage because he failed to remove the implant when the problems first started. He's supposed to be one of the best, so why wouldn't he know about the mental nerve? Well, I think he did know it, but withheld a diagnosis because he knew he screwed up. And screw-ups = potential malpractice lawsuits. If he can put the patient off long enough, the statute of limitations runs out. I trusted him and he used that trust to convince me that I basically had no option but to learn to live with the discomfort and numbness. read more

Dr. Clark is one of the best plastic surgeons in California. He's double-board certifed in plastc surgery and ENT. (Many plastic surgeons in Sacramento lack any board certification.) I spent a full year researching plastic surgeons in the Sacramento area. I checked with all the doctors I knew at UCD and Sutter, other plastic surgeons, people who had good and bad experiences, I checked with state and licensing authorities for lawsuit and complaint records, I checked everything and everyone. I really did complete due diligence. I even asked the doctors I knew well At UCD to whom would they send their daughters for plastic surgery. I came up with a list of 2-3 names from each of my many sources. One name was on every list: Dr.Richard P.Clark. I lost 100 lbs and I needed a really good plastic surgeon who could redrape my size 22 skin suit onto my now size 10 body. That's more than a mere tummy tuck. He did a breast lift and reduction ( I went from a 40FFF to a 34D). Then he did a lower face lift, a nose tip rhinoplasty and a brachioplasty for my "bat wing" arms. He showed me that I didn't need the blepharoplasty that the other doctors wanted to sell me. In 6 months I will go back for an abdominoplasty. I come from a family of lawyers and medical professors. I'm not impressed by exoensive offices or slick brochures. I wanted the surgeon that other doctors respect and use, not the guy with the biggest ad in Sacramento Magazine. Dr. Clark is the doctors' doctor. He is highly trained and experienced. He operates in his own certified surgery center with highly trained staff. He has an exquisite aesthetic sense and he won't perform a surgery that he thinks is unnecessary or more than the patient can take in one session. He's very direct- and I appreciate that. He's a surgeon, not a car salesman, and he will respectfully decline to do anything that he doesn't think is in the patient's best interest. He's also very creative and knows how to get the maximal result with the least surgical intervention. He spends a lot of time with his patients to understand what they want and to explain what he could do for them. He encourages them to seek second opinions. As for his fees, there were in the median of the surgeons I surveyed. And as for single person who keeps maligning Dr Clark on this board, my conclusion is she either saw a different doctor or she wanted a result in contravention of sound medical practices. My three procedures with Dr Clark have been great experiences and next summer I will return for a tummy tuck. His other patients are very happy with his work. I've met many if them. I am not in any way affiliated with Dr Clark or his staff other than being a very satisfied client. Don't go to this doctor. He wants to put a nose on you that he wants, not what you want. He will not listen to what you want. Plus, more than likely you will have to have a revision of the first nose job. I do look better, but it's not what I want. Also, you can have your surgery one day, and then two days later, he won't even remember your name, or that he did the surgery two days earlier. Finally, if you have an appointment at 2 p.m., you can plan on waiting two hours before you get to see him. That's the honest to God truth. I am appalled by Nic J's comment regarding someone who had a bad experience. Didn't anyone tell you? "Doctors are not God's". I am sure he has been successful many times! Dr. Clark is a salesman! A Good one! However; there are times his surgical procedures are not so successful due to his assembly-line style practice! If he sells someone beauty and they receive the opposite then he should be obligated to reimburse that person! If a person takes their car for a carwash, and the car is damaged when it was suppose to be cleaned, there is not a single human being that would not insist on a reimbursement as well as cost for the damages! Dr. Clark is paid prior to service. If that service is OBVIOUSLY unsatisfactory after selling his clientele on the idea his expertise is beyond the "risks" (Risks which he must avoid in order to close the sell!), and he doesn't offer a refund... Well, that just makes him uglier than any mistakes he makes on the innocent people who trust him enough to think he will at least have common decency in the event his expertise does not hold up to his promise! A consultation with Dr. Clark is as about as thorough as a sharp used car salesman with a clever pitch! I give him that! My daughter recently underwent primary rhinoplasty performed by Dr. Clark and I simply could not be happier with the results. At 17, my daughter was a bright, intelligent and happy girl, but had always been concerned with the shape and size of her nose. She had endured comments about her nose all through school and was ready for a change. A mother's bias aside, she went from pretty to stunning in a little over 4 hours. Dr. Clark spent a considerable amount of time prior to the procedure explaining his techniques, what to expect and all possible side effects and risks. I am a clinical pharmacist, so my knowledge of the medical field is much more than casual. My daughter and I felt at ease with Dr. Clark from the beginning. He was thorough and discussed in detail the procedure, what to expect, the risks and possible adverse effects. He was professional and caring and our initial visit was not rushed in any way. Fees were discussed at length and I felt completely informed of everything. The aftercare my daughter received was superb and the follow-up more than exceeded standard of care. We never felt as if my daughter was 'just another patient'. Dr. Clarks techniques are state of the art and the quality of his work is flawless. I sincerely believe that my daughter would not have obtained any better results anywhere in the country. Her features are now perfectly balanced and her nose looks completely natural! I have read these reviews on Dr Clark and I decided to see him and make my opinion on my own. First of all, you want a Doctor not a friend who is not going to tell you what you want to hear. I have done my research on this man and he is a perfectionist who takes pride in his work and has accomplished quite a few things in his career that not many plastic surgeons have in Sacramento!!!!I decided to go see Dr Clark because I had a few procedures done by another doctor that left me feeling hopeless and something I just had to live with. My initial consultation was wonderful. He listened to me and DID not say anything negative about the other doctor who had operated on me and that impressed me!!!!!!! He just wanted to make me happy and fix the problem! He spent time with me and I left there knowing I was in good hands!!!! I saw him on two other occasions because he wanted to make sure I was going to be happy with what he was planning to do. The office staff is kind and very professional. Dr Clark does not rush his time with patients or surgeries. Who wants a surgeon needing to rush or hurry because he has another surgery after yours??? What doctor is really ever on time? If time is a problem he is not for you. If you want awesome results and a caring professional doctor then he is the man!!!!! Surgery was peaceful and comfortable. After a few days I got to see what he had done and I almost cried!!!!! My breasts were perfect after fixing my areolas and my back after a horrible liposuction experience was amazing!!!!! I thought I could never wear a bikini again!!!!! He also performed a bra line lift after all of the loose skin I had on my back after the bad liposuction. AMAZING!!!!!!!!! He has made me so happy!!!!! Remember people ......Surgeons are not god and they can not make you perfect. They are here to help fix the problems you might have and too many patients have different expectations and expect perfection!!!!! He told me "I will do everything to make this problem better but you will not look 20 again" Thats what a "good surgeon" tells his patients.
